April 29th Fish Report

Pic of the Day: Ryan Lobsiger (in middle with blue hat) stood in the middle of Team Rum Runnin for a picture of his spectacular Stripe Marlin brought in with Javier and Americo.

What an excellent day for a Billfish Catch with Team Redrum!!

We will start with Javier on Rum Runnin. Ryan Lobsiger contacted me a few months ago asking if I could help him get a share together. I told him I would do the best I can but that it would also help for him to check out certain blogs to see if he could help himself out a little bit. Ryan was lucky enough to pair up with not only one, but two other couples. So together, the 6 of them headed out on Rum Runnin and had a great day catching and releasing 3 Stripe Marlin . Ryan caught a trohpy fish, 104", 161 pound Stripe Marlin. The fight lasted about 30 minutes until the beautiful fish was finally boated. Congrats on the catch and we are glad you had a wonderful day.

El Nuevo also had a excellent day catching Billfish. Kevin O'Rouke brought his buddies from the East to West Coast of the States to fish with Redrum. Little did they know Alex and Juan would show them the time of their life! They were able to catch and release 3 Stripe Marlin. On top of that Kevin, from Orange County, CA, caught and released a 108" Pacific Sailfish!! Beautiful job guys, congrats on a great day.

We also had 2 half-day trips scheduled for today. ReelRum headed out on a half-day and caught a 40", 45 pound Bull Dorado while Tantrum had a double Stripe Marlin hook-up. Unfortunatelty the Marlin got off the lines.

Full day charters seem like the way to go being that the fishing grounds are a little further out right now and will probably stay that way up until later September, depending on weather.

Thanks for reading and shoot me an email if you have any questions about what is going on in Cabo!! info@redrumcabo.com

April 28th Fish Report

After a few days of battling with Stripe Marlin to try to get them to take the bait the Redrum fleet did a heack of a job putting their anglers to work today!

We will start off with Aimee Reichlin and Geoff Hitchman. They headed out with Manuel and Marshall on Red Beam today. They ended the day with 2 Stripe Marlin, one hit a dead "stitch" bait sewn up by Marshall. Geoff took the first one, Aimee took care of the second one landed by a live bait tossed by Manuel. Hers took almost an hour to reel in. We won't say who's Marlin was bigger.... Yes we will!!! Aimee brought in her Marlin and it was almost 10" larger than Geoff!! Got shot Aimee. (Sorry Geoff I had to do it buddy!)

Dennis Eckstrom and his gang of 2 headed out on ReelRum. Orignially they were booked on Tantrum but after some problems with her starter in the morning we thought it may be a better idea to put them on with Reel Rum. Omar and Jesus could not have been more excited. They were itching to fish for Marlin and Marlin is what they the Eckstrom were looking for! They were fortunate to catch "2 nice ones" according to Dennis. He complimented on how hard the boys tried and gave them all the credit for landing the fish.

Luke Humphreys headed out on Rum Runnin and after having a long day yesterday only spotting a few Marlin today they got their chance and finally landed a nice Stripe Marlin! Javier worked very hard to land the fish and he is glad that the Humphreys got their Marlin in! Congrats on the fish and we look foward to working with you in the future!

TGIF Fish Report!

Jim Donovan had his last day on his brothers boats today and did the best they had done all week. Today he headed out with Javier and Americo on Rum Runnin. After spotting Marlin all week and having a difficult getting them to take the bait, one finally hooked in to the live bait!
Jim's friend Mason was able to reel the fish up to the boat and get it back in the water after a quick snapshot! Great job. They were also able to catch 6 Yellowfin and 4 Dorado. It was excellent having you guys down here.

The Edmiston party headed out on the RedBeam and caught 10 Yellowfin Tuna. Manuel, Javiers old mate, is now the Captain of Red Beam was we thought it was about time for a promotion for Manuel. He has been doing a great job since starting with Redrum and like all hard workers needed to be credited for his work. Congrats Manuel!

Jeff Ramsey from Nashville TN, fished the first of his 2 days with us on Reel Rum. He headed out with Omar in looks for the billfish but came up short and instead had the time of his life catching Yellowfin and Dorado. Sometimes life can be tough huh?!?!

Jonathan Fykes and his 2 pals fished along wtih Cesar on Tantrum and caught non stop Tuna for about 2 hours. They reeled in a nice 40+ pound boy that made the day well worth it! Cesar was also able to put them on a couple of Dorado as well.

With May around the corner we hope the fishing continues to be as solid as it has been for us the past couple of weeks. It has been a pleasure fishing with everyone and we cannot wait for you guys to come back and see us.

Saludos,

Luis

April 24th Fish Report

Kerry Brown brought his group of friends down from TX and rented out El Nuevo and Rum Runnin for a couple of half-day charters. 5 hours is all they needed to tire them out from catching too many Tuna! Both boat filled their coolers with the Yellowfin before 11:00am and were back to the docks before noon!

Robert Rusnack had another great day fishing with Omar and Jesus on Reel Rum as he bagged a couple of Tuna, one Dorado and had a shot at a Marlin but the fish spit the hook! Hey, it happens!!

The Andersons headed out with Cesar again and absolutely tore it up! They had a great time reeling in Tuna and Dorado all day with Cesar! I have a feeling they will be eating fish for a long long time back home in Montana. Very nice meeting you guys, great job fishing this week!

April 23rd Fish Report

Redrum owner John Donovan headed out with Alex and Americo on El Nuevo today. He was joined by his older brother Jim and thier friend Mason. They were able to have a great day on the water catching Tuna after Tuna after Tuna. They ended the day with 16 Tuna caught and 7 kept since there was no need to keep that many fish. John was allowed to reel in one of those fish as big brother Jim "kept him out of the sandbox" so to say!

Alan and Danny Ross brought a group of 8 anglers from Los Angeles CA for 2 days of fishing with Redrum. On day 1 they headed out on the 28' boats and combined were able to catch 26 Tuna. They only had to head to 3 miles out before they were hooking up for the rest of the day!

Mr. James Peterson headed out with Javier and Manuel and he, if at all possible wanted to avoid Tuna. He was here for Marlin fishing and although the Marlin bite had not been that great he was able to tie up to one and fight it long enough to get it to the boat for a Catch and Release. Congrats James, hope you had fun buddy!

April 22nd Fish Report

What seemed to be like an overnight change, the Yellowfin tuna were back in town! It was also great to see Dorado flags flying high on our boats this afternoon.

Todays fish Report:

John Donovan had a special guest on George's boat Redrum today. Jim Donovan headed out with Sal on the Red Beam. They were able to catch 25 Yellowfin Tuna as well as 5 Dorado. He showed his friends a great time and George could not have been any more proud!

Cesar had a great day as well with the Anderson party. On their first of two days fishing on Tantrum they were able to catch 4 Tuna, 1 Dorado, a Mako shark and a 117" Stripe Marlin. It was a heck of a fight done by Mr. Andersons son. It will be tough to top a day like that!

Jesus and Omar took out Robert Rusnack today on Reel Rum. He had a great day on Omars 28' California. A Stripe Marlin and a handful of Yellowfin was what they ended up with.

We hope the fishing stays like this for a while! Great day for all.

April 14th Fish Report

Justin Hartzog from Edinburg, TX came down to fish with Redrum today. He came into the office yesterday and said he really wanted to catch Marlin. We put him on ReelRum with Omar and Jesus. They boys hooked him into 3 Stripe Marlin. He had a great time with the boys on the water. He reeled in 2 Stripe Marlin while his wife took care of the other.

Alex and Ramon took out Shawn Daniel and his 3 buddies from New Jersey on El Nuevo. They caught and released 2 Stripe Marlin on their day. They are heading out on Tantrum with Cesar tomorrow. Best of luck tomorrow.

Mr. Moore from the Make-A-Wish crew went out with Cesar for his second trip today and caught and released 4 Stripe Marlin. They had a great 2 days catching and releasing 7 Stripe Marlin.

Robert Logghe fished with his friend Chris Ullom and their wives. Javier and Manuel were able to put them on a 2 Stripe Marlin during their trip out. With the weather and the seas as perfect as they were today I am sure they had a blast.

April 12th Fish Report

Picture of the Day: Trevor (on the left) poses with Manuel (left), his brother and Javier (right) outside of the Redrum office after reeling in his first Stripe Marlin!!

Congratulations to Trevor Neighbors for catching his first ever Stripe Marlin, 94 inches and 145 pounds. Trevor, a youngster from Newport Beach, CA. fished on Rum Runnin with his father Rod, his mother, and his brother. Javier and Manuel took great care of the family hooking into several other Marlin after Trevor reeled his bad boy in! The fish took over an hour to reel in and my man Trevor didn't give up at all. Mr. Neighbors is doing a great job teaching his kids the beauty of fishing and the importance of conservation. By conserving our waters we will be able to see more and more fish for years to come! Congrats Trevor, welcome to the elite group of people that have caught their first Marlins with Redrum!!

Cesar had a great day with Mr. Moore and his friend from the Make-A-Wish foundation. They were able to catch and release 2 Stripe Marlin and caught a big Dorado for dinner! They are headed out one more time with Cesar and Tantrum on Monday, let's see how they do!

Mr. Olson had another great day fishing on his new love, El Nuevo. Ramon and Juan were able to hook he and his wife into 6 Stripe Marlin, 1 Yellowfin and 2 Dorado! That's a great day if you ask me!

Omar and Jesus prove to still have the touch as they also caught and released 5 Stripe Marlin for our buddy Joe from California.

April 10th Fish Report

Mr. Olson had a killer day with Alex and Juan on El Nuevo and caught and released 2 Stripe Marlin and also caught a Tuna.

Rum Runnin took out Mr. Angelini and his wife Maria for a full day of fishing and were able to catch a release a Stripe Marlin.

ReelRum had an inshore trip and hooked into plently of Yellowtail. Believe it or not they were also able to catch 2 nice sized Dorado!! I don't want to jinx it but I think we are starting to see Dorado heading back our way. Lets cross our fingers.

Tantrum had the Boyer family on his boat this morning and what a treat they were. Mr. Boyer's son was able to catch an release 2 Stripe Marlin all on his own and catch dinner for his mom and Dad. Little Mr. Boyer also reeled in 3 nice Yellowfin to end their day with Cesar and Americo!

April 9th Fish Report

The Sunset group that finished yesterday on Rum Runnin finished their second day today aboard Rum Runnin and El Nuevo. Let's just say the boys will be taking over 100 lbs of Tuna between 4 people! They hit it hard yesterday and landed Yellowfin until about 11am. Today the group stayed out a little longer and added to yesterdays bag. They will be eating Tuna for weeks!

Reel Rum had a great day as well with Mr. Craig Christiansen and his family. They caught over 9 Yellowfin and had a Marlin on the line but heavy swells swept the Marlin under the boat and the line was cut by the propeller. It was a good thing Omar and Jesus satisfied them with the Tuna catch or else they may have been swimming back to shore!

Tantrum stayed back today for a little rest before she starts a 25 day stretch of charters!

RedBeam did well with the Tuna bit with our buddy Karl. He had his kids hooking up to Tuna all morning until the swells got a little rough and they headed back in. Mechanical problems kept them out a little longer than they wanted to but luckily everyone was alright!

Utopia Report:

Mr Merdock and his friends headed out on the beautiful 54' Hatteras for a day of fishing. Captain Cesar joined the gang as his boat was not moving today! I'm sure he was glad that he did! The group was able to catch and release 4 Stripe Marlin and also caught 9 Yellow fin Tuna! They had a fabulous time with captain Rene and "Mate" Cesar!

A slight front blew through Cabo yesterday evening that may caused some larger than normal swells but we do not expect them to be around long as the day ended with little to no wind and small to very small swells.

Time for Dinner!!

April 8th Fish Report

I know I probably sounds like I am repeating myself for the 12th time in a row but... what a great day for Stripe Marlin and Yellofin Tuna!

The day started off great when our half-day trip came back with 12 Yellowfin Tuna caught, only a handful kept and more memories to last a lifetime!! Chivo had a great time with the Sunset tour Group and was glad he could put them on the fish so quickly.

Reel Rum headed out with Maria Maloney and her husband Patrick. Jesus and Ramon were able to put the two of them on 4 Stripe Marlin. The couple was able to bring 3 of the 4 to the boat for a catch and release. One of the Stripe Marlins got off. They also caught a nice Yellowfin Tuna on their day out on the 28'.

Red Beam fishing with Mr. Scott Osborne from San Diego. Mr. Osborne had limited time to fish with us being that he came in on a cruise ship at 9am and had to be back to the ship by 3pm. Luckily he arrived early, after getting to know Scott a little bit I learned he had never caught a Billfish. I knew right away that he was on the right boat as Sal and Marshall have been Marlin machines lately. I knew the boys would take good care of him, that they did! He caught and released his first 3 Stripe Marlin ever. He also was casted, baited, and hooked his very own Stripe Marlin to make it 4 catch and releases for the day! For a guy that has never caught Marlin before you acted like you were some professional!! Great job Scott.

Cesar was back to his old ways today with the Mann family! After being a little tired from being sick a couple of weeks Cesar was the first one in the office with more energy in him than I have seen in a while. I knew he was 100% healthy when I saw Tantrum roll back in with 6 Stripe Marlin flags flying as well as 9 Tuna flags! I could barely see the Mann family on the boat with all the flags covering my view!

Alex and Juan also did very well with Mr. Ken Hunter. He and Mr. Gonzalez took out their families for a day out on the water. Half a mile outside of "Cabeza de Ballena" Juan told me that he saw 10 Stripe Marlin crashing on a bait ball that was at least an acre wide. His first attempt to toss the bait was a failure as the Mack. had a weak lip and the bait went flying off! He grabbed the next one and made sure it was on correctly, made a perfect cast and landed a nice Marlin for Mr. Hunter! They were also able to scoop up a few Yellowfin Tuna as well!

Just another all around great day for Redrum and all of its Anglers. We are thankful for everyone that came out today, all the anglers that have come out in the past and the ones that will be with us and experience fishing REDRUM style in the future!!

Saludos!

April 7th Fish Report

Sal, the captain on Red Beam came to the office wide eyed and with a look of shock on his face after he got back from his charter with the Knipfer party. Now Sal has been fishing Cabo for many years and he told me that he had not seen that many Marlin on a charter in 5 years. The amount of bait and the size of the bait balls were like nothing ever seen before. Red Beam was able to catch and release 5 Stripe Marlin and catch a yellowfin Tuna for dinner.

Mr. Chung and his family headed out for the first of their pair of charters on El Nuevo with Alex. Unfortunately the family got sick only an hour into the trip but, Alex was able to put them on 10 Yellowfin Tuna before they had to come back. Alex headed towards the Lighthouse and than out about 2 miles before he had a quadruple hook up. Juan was able to keep the lines tight enough to give everyone on boat a chance to reel in at least one Tuna. 10 Tuna in a little over an hour?? Not a bad gig!

Mr. and Mrs. Johnson were able to head out on Rum Runnin with Javier and Manuel. They were able to snag up 3 Stripe Marlin and release each one. They are probably glad that it was only them 2 and not the 5 people that were supposed to show up!! I hope you guys had a great time!

Mr. Rudd had a rough morning after he had some transportation problems with his cab driver. He eventually made it to the office, got on the boat, caught 2 Stripe Marlin and more Tuna than he can handle. Omar and Jesus treated him well as he was in need of a great time after a little difficult morning! Congrats on the great day!

The fish are out there, Marlin, Marlin, Tuna Tuna!! There was a report of some Dorado being spotted and some even caught around the Marina as well. Could just be all "hear-say" but it would be nice to get some Mahi to the table soon!!

Saludos,

Luis

Weekend Run Down

I hope everyone had a great weekend just like Redrum did. The fishing stayed very good over the weekend for us as we recorded several Stripe Marlin catch and releases as well as many many tuna in the area.

Right off the Arch about 12-20 miles out is where the boys primarily fished this weekend.

The panga fishing also proved to be active as we sent Steve Stephensen and his group of buddies out for a trip with Carlos. Yellowtail, and Rooster were the 2 targets for these gentlemen and they nailed both on their outing.

The weather was beautiful all weekend which made for excellent fishing conditions!

April 3rd Fish Report

Pic of the Day: Ken Root and his group of buddies pose for a picture outside the Redrum office after having a couple of cold ones. They spent the rest of their afternoon talking about the 103", 165 pound Stripe Marlin that Dennis Walkes (in red shirt) pulled in on Rum Runnin!

Todays Fish Report:

Today was the day for Marlin. After over a week of catching Yellowfin Tuna and more Yellowfin Tuna the boys pulled in the Billfish!

Rum Runnin fished a half day with Ken Root and his buddies. They were able to land a monster Stripe Marlin that took 2 people to reel in! The fight lasted quite a while for Dennis Walkes handed the rod over to Mr. Root to finish the fish off! It was the first for Mr. Walkes and he swears next time that he will be better prepared for the fight! Great job, nice group of guys!

Mr. Mike Knipfer fished his first of 3 days on Tantrum with Cesar. The guys on Tantrum were having tough luck trying to land fish with the live bait that were given to them in the morning so Cesar and Americo got to work and "made bait" in the deep waters of the 1150 mark. They pulled up enough Green-Back Mackeral to fill the live well and were ready to go. As soon as those macks hit the water near the Marlin the fish were chomping at them! After the bait change they were able to land 2 pretty much back to back and they were set for the day! They still have 2 more days with Cesar and don't want to get too warn out on the first go 'round!

El Nuevo took out Stacey and Mario Lozina for a day of fishing. Today Stacey is celebrating a birthday and we want to wish her a very happy birthday from everyone here at Redrum!! They had a great time with Alex and Juan who at the beginning had the same problems as Cesar with the bait. Than all of a sudden " Bam, the 2 lines went off and sure enough, double hook up". Mario explained to me that his "Marlin took off so fast it almost spooled him within 40 seconds". Stacey was fighting hers heading one direction while Mario was busy with his going the opposite way! Eventually Mario decided to let his Marlin off the line so Stacey can battle her fish with more attention from the crew. They tightened the line on Marios rod and snapped the line off, freeing up some room to manuever for Alex and Juan to get Staceys fish to the boat. After a good 45 minute fight Stacey had her beauty up to the boat with Mario snapping away! Hope that you had a great birthday. Mario, you're a gentlemen for letting your wife take the Marlin. You will be rewarded next time you fish!! Karma you know!!!

The McArthy group headed out on 2 Redrum boats today. The group of 7 split up: 3 with Omar and Jesus on ReelRum and 4 with Sal and Tili on Red Beam. They youngsters on Reel Rum slightly outshined the adults on the Beam. Omar and Jesus were able to help the kids catch and release 2 nice Stripe Marlin while Sal managed to hook one long enough to get it to the boat for the pictures. Great job guys, and sorry about the loss Mr. McArthy!! See you guys next time.

It is great to see the Marlin bite continue to pick up and we hope it sticks around a while. I'm itching to get out on a boat, this office stuff isn't quite for me!!

Next time,

Luis

April 2nd Fish Report

Pic of the Day: Captain Rene gives 2 thumbs up to the great day of fishing on the Redrum boats! Rene works as our full-time mechanic as well as the Captain on Utopia, our 54 Hatteras.
Todays Report:
Dr. Thomson and his family headed out on El Nuevo this morning ready for a day of fishing. They ended of the day with a nice size Dorado as well as 2 Tunas. They had a great time on the boat with Alex and Juan.
Yet again Javier and Manuel show their anglers a great time on the water. Mr. Andy Miller and his family had an amazing time fishing on Rum Runnin today. All Mr. Miller wanted was for his children to have a great time and get to see big fish! They got a see a "big fish" when their dad reeled in a Stripe Marlin well over 100" and well over 150 pounds. The kids got into the action themselves catching 9 Yellowfin Tuna!
Omar and Jesus were back at it today with Captain Tom from Atlantic City. ReelRum had Tom and his wife on board for a half day and they were both able to catch and release a Stripe Marlin! They had a great time fishing with the 2 and we hope to see them back soon.
Captain Sal on the Red Beam had a fun time fishing with Mr. Smith and his family. The group were able to catch 3 Dorado as well as 8 Yellowfin Tuna. We hope they had a great time because Sal said you were some great people!
Tantrum headed out for just a few hours and was able to catch and release a Stripe Marlin as well as a Dorado and a Yellowfin Tuna.
We will be back at it again tomorrow hopefully sending and recieving each boat out safely.

Redrum Starts the Month of April off with a Bang

Shawn Stoops and friend heading back to the tendor after a long day of catching Tuna and Stripe Marlin on TANTRUM!

Team Redrum started the month of April with a great day of fishing! It was a hectic morning as it seemed like everyone showed up at once and were all equally eager to fish, which is very understandable when the fish reports have been this good!

After George hustled around making sure everyone got on the correct boat the boys were running! At the end of the day all was good in the Redrum office with happy clients, tired boys and beautiful weather down in Baja!

Todays Report:

El Nuevo and Rum Runnin had a heck of a day. Alex and Juan on El Nuevo fished with the Lawrence party while Javier and Manuel took out Mr. Steve Stephensen and his buddies from AC on Rum Runnin. Both of the boats caught more Yellowfin Tuna than they could imagine! Alex did have a Stripe Marlin on the line for a little while but after a crazy acrabatic display by the fish, it got itself off the hook.

The Red Beam continues to prove itself to the rest of the fleet as she had a great day catching and releasing a Stripe Marlin, 1 Dorado, and 7 Yellowfin Tuna. Sal took out Mr. Root and his boys for a day of fishing. Mr. Root swore to me that his boys wouldn't get tired on their trip, I am not too sure that they're going to be too tired to go out tonight but I can gurantee their arms will be hurting!! Hope you had a good time, see you guys on Thursday.

Reel Rum led the fleet with 3 Catch and Release Marlin today as well as 1 Dorado and 11 Tuna.

Mr. Shawn Stoops came off the Princess Cruise Ship and had a great time fishing with Rene and Americo! The four gentlemen got off the cruise ship at around 9:00am and were on the boat in a matter of minutes. With Rene as captain they headed out about 14 miles and hit the Tuna hard! They caught "mucho, mucho, Tuna" said Rene. They were also supper excited when they hooked into a Stipe Marlin at about mid-day. Rene and Americo were able to get it to the boat for a few shots and back into the water before any harm was caused to the fish.

We look foward to a great month of fish in Cabo and hope you can join us shortly.

Saludos,

Luis
