It’s beautiful, sunny and warm Sunday in Cabo sitting at about 90 degrees Fahrenheit in the air and about 76 degrees in the water. The bite has been good these last few days with marlin and tuna ever present.
Robert and his wife Viki from Palm Desert, California headed out with Omar and Americo on ReelRum. We met them at the Fred Hall Show down in Long Beach. Viki wasn’t sure if she wanted to be out on the water as she hadn’t been fishing in about 20 years. After John talked to her about one of our great Mate’s Americo, she was convinced that he was her man to walk her through the whole fishing process. They headed out about 28-29 miles on the Sea of Cortez where they were able to catch and release 3 Striped Marlin. They also got a hold of about a 20 pound Yellow fin tuna that is currently getting prepared for their sushi lunch! I’m glad you guys had a good time; we look forward to seeing some pictures.
Mike Monks, Lee Hutchins, Scott Reich, Dino Camino, Billy Uhler and Mark Bowers from Maryland headed out on El Nuevo today. They are no spring chickens to Cabo, they come down often and fish hard for the time they are here. This is day 4 for them on the water. With 2 cases of beer on board, they checked in a bit late this morning and headed out with Alex on El Nuevo. They headed out to the Pacific side and were on the search for tuna. They hit it big when they got into some porpoise and landed 10 nice Yellow Fin Tuna. They'll be taking most of it back to the states with them all nicely vacuum sealed. We'll see you guys again tomorrow.

It's getting warmer, both on land and in the water!
The Thompsons were back for the second day in a row, this time with Alex and Ramon on our 33’ Bertram “El Nuevo”. They decided to head towards the sea of Cortez, going out roughly ten miles where the water temperature was at 76 degrees Fahrenheit. The group was super excited to fight and catch 4 Marlin and just a little disappointed about a huge Dorado that got away. Total score for both days: six Marlin.
Also fishing for the second, but not last day this week were Mike and his buddies from Maryland. It was almost 7am and they hadn’t checked in so I figured that they had had a rough night. Little did I know the pros had gone straight for their boat and disappeared by the time I had heard. They came back with more Dorado and a Tuna, though not quite big enough for their appetites. Two more days guys, hang in there!
Out on our 32’ RumRunnin with Javier and Manuel were Chris and his friends from San Jose, CA. They hoped that there would be six of them fishing today but thanks to the media and the hype of pandemic, as Chris says, two stayed behind. Javier took them out thirty five miles towards the lighthouse where waters were close to 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Those two will be missing out on the Tuna and Skipjack dinner that the group caught.

Girls Can Fish Too!
“Girls can fish too!” That was what Betty and her friends from California said as they arrived back at the office, grins on each face. A last minute decision for the group, they decided to check-out the fishing while vacationing in Cabo and found us on Tripadvisor. Javier and Manuel took them out on our 32’ RumRunnin’ and by 8am they were fighting their Marlin. Nice job ladies!
Bryan and wife Christine went out on our 28’ ReelRum today with Omar and Americo where the water was at 73-74 degrees and the fish were biting! Positioning themselves at 1150 on the sea of Cortez, they threw out a line and in came a Marlin. “The crew made it as easy as possible; kudos to both of them.”
Doug and his friends came to us via their support for the Coastal Conservation Association and went out on our 32’ RedBeam today with Marcial and Fabian. They took their time out on the water and it paid off with 2 striped Marlin. Catch and release of course!
Out on one of our partner boats, Mike and his buddies from Maryland came back with a Dorado and a Roosterfish. A good start for this group that plans on fishing with us three more days this week. Now what could they possibly get into the rest of the day? #1: finish their case of cerveza and, #2: head over to the pool. Great plan guys.

Great day for a Marlin
Fishing is consistent in that you’re never quite sure what you’re going to come back with. Of course we can guess what we might catch if we’ve done our homework but it’s always an adventure out on the water. Today was a great Marlin day. We had four boats going out and lots of Marlin flags proudly returning.
Omar and Americo took Ryan and his friends from Alberta, Canada on our 28’ “ReelRum” and caught their striped Marlin at coordinates 95 and 1150, putting them somewhere in between the sea of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean.
Javier and Manuel went out with Bill from Montana who was fishing for the second time this week. Out on our 32’ RumRunnin, Bill caught 2 Striped Marlin.
Visiting us from Washington State the Chadwicks went out on one of our partner boats and came back with some of the same magic, a gorgeous striped Marlin.
New angler friends Lyle and Pete went out on our 32’ RedBeam with Marcial and Fabian and came back with the catch of the day, 3 striped Marlin and tons of squid….mmm.

Sorry for the delay...
We've been dealing with lots of folks calling and emailing about the "Swine Flu." Everything is fine in Cabo, regardless of what you hear on the news and in the papers. They have confirmed that only a few of the deaths in Mexico City were really "Swine Flu" related. 36,000 people die annually in the US from the seasonal flu. "Swine Flu" like any other flu, is not curable, but it is treatable. Business as usual here with the RedRum crew.
Monday we got to have a little fun as the office staff headed out on the water for a few hours. John flew down from California on Sunday, my sister Jen and her boyfriend Paul are visiting, plus Brooke and I on the boat. We headed out on El Nuevo and headed for the Jaime Bank on the Pacific. Running into some real rough water, and with the girls not feeling so hot, we made a change to the plan and turned towards the smoother waters on the Sea of Cortez. Paul, a rookie to the Cabo offshore game, but a veteran of 6 years in the Alaskan commercial game was first on the rod. We warmed him up with a Skipjack Tuna before getting him on a big Marlin. A nice Striped Marlin in the 190lb range hit a stitch bait on the port side corner and the fight was on. While fighting the one fish, a big Blue swam past, but we were unable to entice her with a live Mackeral. Paul was almost to leader when the Marlin spit the bait and the hook. Guess you will have to come back down Paul. Good times!
Ben Reina is down from Chicago with his wife, but she didn't want to head out fishing. Ben headed out Monday with ReelRum and was rewarded with 3 Yellowfin Tuna and a real nice Marlin. Congrats on that first Billfish Ben. On day 2, while getting strikes and hooking 3 different Dorado and pitching bait to a few Marlin, nothing was brought on board. The boys did however spot a 300-400 lb Blue Marlin chasing the lures behind the boat!
Jack Kay and his crew, new friends from the New England area, had their second day of fishing with RedRum yesterday. While they had a great day on the water and had a bit of action, nothing was brought on board. Good thing they caught fish on day 1!
Scott Stanard and his daughter Ashley, who are good friends from Nebraska were down yesterday and they had a great day on the water. They saw all kinds of sea life, including a big Hammerhead Shark that breached close to the boat. Towards the end of the day, they were able to hook into and catch 2 nice Dorado. As an added bonus for the office crew, they have invited us to dinner tonight. Good luck to Ashley in her next endeavor as she is off to Bulgaria to serve in the Peace Corps.
The Brinkman party on the Red Beam has had a great time in Cabo, fishing however, didn't work out too well. Water was a bit rough today and they were back early, without any flags.
Warm warm water in the Cortez, up to 80 degrees in some spots today, could be bringing the Blue Marlin a little earlier than normal this year. Omar and Alex have each spotted Blues the last few days! Here's to a great Blue Marlin season for Cabo and RedRum Sportfishing.

Farrell's Catch Marlin - April 21st

We had such a great time and I wanted to take a minute to let you guys know how much we appreciated the effort that Cesar and Omar put forth for our charter. I've fished all over the country with various guides and charter companies. These guys were top notch. They're effort and skill was second to none.
My wife and I had a great time and couldn't have asked for a better day of fishing. I'm telling everyone that stands still long enough about my week in Cabo and in particular the fishing trip with RedRum.
