Fish Filled Friday

Another clear and cloudless sunny day in Cabo San Lucas. The air temperature is sitting at 82 degrees Fahrenheit with a 16 mph wind coming from the South. Both boats in the RedRum fleet headed out to the Sea of Cortez where water temperature was at 74 degrees Fahreneheit.

The Rod and Krissie Schick along with Lana and Steve Davies and Ryan Nicholson headed out on RumRunnin this morning with Javier and Manuel. They are visiting us in Cabo from Seattle and Mukilteo, Washington. They cruised out to the Sea of Cortez where on their way they spotted a few Marlin at bank 95 on the surface. They immediately had one on after pitching some live bait. This happened at 7:20 am as Steve Davies told me and boom they reeled it in and released it. They couldn’t get the other ones to bite so they moved on. At the surface near the shore of Santa Maria beach they got into a ton of Dorado. They were able to catch 4 Dorado out of the 8 they had on line with dead bait and lures. They ‘re freezing some up here at the office and taking a few fillets to dinner as well. They were ecstatic at the service provided by Manuel and Javier. Kudos to the crew and great job out there guys, we look forward to posting the photos!

El Nuevo was the 2nd boat going out in the RedRum fleet today. On board was Dan Hlavachek from Milwaukee, George Powell from New Hampshire, Andreas Klotz from Milwaukee and Ron Powell from Massachusetts. They too headed out to the Sea of Cortez with Alex and Ramon, on day 1 of their 2 day fishing adventure. They stayed out in front of Santa Maria, Palmilla and Cabo Real as well. They were fishing with dead bait as well and had up to 4 dorado on, but were only able to bring one to the boat. It seemed there were quite a few out there, just tough to get them on board. Well done guys, we’ll see you on the RedBeam tomorrow.

Thanks for checking in!

March 26th

A warm 81 degrees Fahrenheit here in Cabo with a slight breeze coming from the SE at 13 mph makes for a beautiful day on the beach or on the water. The spring breakers are still at it all over town, boozing it up and having a grand ole time in Cabo. It’s hard not to with weather like this.

Debbie and Tom Perez visiting from Peoria, Arizona arrived ready to play this morning. The duo was paired up with Captain Javier, aka “Chivo” (look that up in the dictionary for a good laugh), and his Mate Mickey. With low winds and a pretty great water temperature for the season they played a great game out in the Sea of Cortez and came back with big smiles and two nice sized Dorado’s.

Judy and Gary headed out on ReelRum with Omar and Americo. Enjoying their spring vacation in Cabo coming from New Jersey they headed out to the Sea of Cortez. They cruised out to Gordo Banks in hopes of getting a marlin bite, they were everywhere jumping around along with some porpoise, but no bites there. After heading over to the 1150 bank they were able to reel in a nice dorado. Well done guys. We look forward to seeing those pictures.

After visiting with his lovely wife in the office for a while, we were greeted by Greg upon his return from a trip to the Sea of Cortez aboard the RedBeam. He had a great day on the water pulling in 3 dorados. He and his wife are debating on where to take it for dinner, should they go back to the hotel and spring for a $17 preparation, which is outrageous, or stop by somewhere on the marina for a quick taco? Decisions. Decisions.

Thanks for checking in!

Slow day today...

Fish were a bit finicky today unfortunately, but as our good friend Willy MacMullan put it "it was still a great day on the water." Water temps looked good at 72 to 73 on the Sea of Cortez today but it didn't translate into big time hook-ups.

Willy and Pam MacMullan, our good friends from Massachusetts and the ISL, took their two boys out for a day on the water in Cabo San Lucas. They really wanted to hook a Marlin as they rarely get a chance at one up in the Northeast. They saw a few Marlin, but just couldn't get them to bite. Willy and the boys reported Dolphins, Whales and even Thresher Sharks breaching throughout the day. They even saw some free jumping Marlin, but no interest from them when the baits started flying. They finished up the day with one nice Dorado to take to dinner at Misiones De Kino.

The same was true for the crew on ReelRum. Mike, Nancy, and Jason Hoke along with Tiffany Carria saw plenty of action on the water today. The problem was, they were only able to land one Dorado. Blame it on the moon guys. Hope to see you back down here soon.

Finally we had the Aldridge Party who took out Utopia today. These guys were down last year and were here when the Marlin were practically jumping in the boat. Unfortunately, they missed the bite by a few weeks this year. They told Rene and Luis that they wanted to hook all the fish today and so far they have missed a big Dorado and a Marlin, we will see what the rest of the afternoon has in store. Knowing Rene they should be back by the time I get the boats off tomorrow morning.

Tuesday the 24th

Today was another great day for Dorado in Cabo San Lucas. I was driving back from San Jose this morning and saw a bunch of boats out in front of Cabo del Sol and relayed the info to my Captains and it made all the difference. Marshall fished the Red Beam today with the Matias party and was able to land 3 nice Dorado with several others spitting the hooks during the fight. On Rum Runnin with Javier and Cesar we had Aaron, Ron and Sue Brothen as well as Brent Christiansen. They were also lucky on the Dorado front bringing in two real nice keepers. Finally, on ReelRum with Omar and Americo was Craig and Alice Grosseto. They were the top anglers today with 5 nice Dorado, they threw a few back and kept two nice fish for dinner.

Water was a beautiful blue color and water temps were in the low 70's. Live Caballito and trolled lures were the bait of choice today with our crews.

Photos of yesterday's Mako

Mark Fimbres was nice enough to send in some pics of the awesome Mako they caught yesterday, they thought it was about a 6 footer...

Fishing with RedRum

David Stumpe and his buddy Scott Chadwich fished with us on March 8th, during the peak of the Marlin Frenzy. They took some footage and posted it on YouTube, check it out.

Monday March 23rd

The seas were calm out on the Sea of Cortez today with some overcast clouds.

First boat back was the half day charter aboard our partner boat Anzuelo II with Captain Rafa. Mark along with wife Jane and daughter Margaux and friend Alex had a great time on the water. They spoke of seeing lots of whales, porpoise, and some marlin passing by. They reeled in a mako shark, about a 6 footer right from the start. They also got into some squid as well, reeling in 3 of those monsters. One of the girls had a nice dorado on line for a while but couldn’t get it on board, but gave it a good fight. So great to meet you guys and look forward to seeing some pictures!

Alan and Katie come from my hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska, they are family of my dear friend Nichol who I grew up with. And actually the first time I came to Cabo was with her family back in 1994! Anywho, they headed out with Omar and Americo aboard ReelRum. They had a bit of a slower day compared to the other RedRum boats on the water but were able to reel in 2 skipjack tunas. Sorry I couldn’t get more fish to bite for you guys.

Also out again on the water today was Joe Assenza, our buddy who joined up to help the local soccer kids program called MundoStar. He booked a Stay & Play package and is staying in the Portofino Condos. He headed out on RumRunnin today with Javier and Mickey. The first did a bit of fishing right near the Arch and got into some sierra, about 4 total. They then headed out to the Sea of Cortez, where they reeled in one dorado, which they’ll be taking to Misiones de Kino for dinner. They also reeled in one stripped marlin while out there, but unfortunately it didn’t make it in the fight. We look forward to seeing you guys back again.

Douglas and Roger headed out on the RedBeam. They are visiting us from Wisconsin and California. These two brother-in-laws had a great day on the water while the sister they married relaxed by the pool. They had a great time with Marcial and along with other boats saw tons of marine life. Anything from jumping sting rays to porpoise to even some marlin at the Sea of Cortez. They ended up with 3 dorado as well as one catch and release marlin. They gave some dorado to the crew and will take the rest to dinner at Misiones de Kino this evening.

El Nuevo headed out with Rick coming in from the NCL Star Cruise Ship. They didn’t depart until about 11:00 and headed out to the Sea of Cortez. Out with Alex, this group from Idaho also saw quite a bit of action on the water. They reeled in 4 dorado in their short half day trip! Very well done guys! Please send us some pictures.
