Father and Son
Today was a light day for us, with only one boat heading out. Omar and Americo on ReelRum fished with Brian Graves and his son Alex, as well as Brian Biele with his sons Zach and Josh. The boys age's ranged from 5-7 and they all came in SUPER excited to go fishing with their dads. I must say they looked pretty cool in their stylish and safety oriented fishing jackets. As I talked with Brian and Brian we formulated a plan to make sure the boys had a good day on the water and stayed interested. Omar and Americo did great, staying close to shore for the first part of the day catching loads of Sierra. They caught about 10 fish and released another 10. When it was time to head a bit offshore and look for a Marlin or Dorado for the Dad's, the luck ran out. They saw a few fish but couldn't get a bite, and decided to leave well enough alone and head back to the Marina. They stopped by the office to say thanks, and then headed over to the Mango Cantina for some Sierra Ceviche and Sashimi. Good stuff guys. "We saw a lotta Marlin, Ryan"
This was Ramon's response when he came back at the end of the day from his charter on El Nuevo today. They didn't have any flags flying so I asked him what happened out there. "You didn't catch nada," I asked? "We saw a lotta Marlin, Ryan, pero no hungry." This has been the case lately with all the squid in the water, Marlin are filling up on the squid candy and have no interest in the Mackeral. Yesterday, the boys were able to get a few, but no luck on Nuevo today. We had the Schwartz family down from New Jersey today. Arlene and Howard had never been to Cabo and really wanted to have a great day on the water. Fortunately, they have another day of fishing planned for Saturday, so we have another chance to show them what Cabo is all about.
On the Red Beam today we had the Savage crew from Wisconsin. They had been to Cabo before, but never caught any fish. We were determined to change that stat today and Muneca and Marshall did their best. They were able to land a few Bonita and one really nice Dorado. Knock that skunk off your Cabo fishing resume.
Omar and Americo fished with Jim and David Edwards of Universal City, Texas. We forgot to ask them, but we are sure they are TCU Horned Frog Fans! Fishing was ok for this father/son crew as they were able to land a Bonita and a nice Striped Marlin. We'll see these guys again Thursday as they are headed out once again.
On Anzuelo II with Captain Rafa we had the Weber party. Bill and his 3 girls had a great time today battling the ever present Humbolt Squid. We thought a Marlin just might come by and scoop up one of the Squid on the way up, but today wasn't their day for a Marlin. See you in a few weeks Bill.
Finally, on Rum Runnin we had Dave Condon and his crew off of a cruise ship for a half day charter. It seems like the half day cruise ship clients always do really well. Dave was no exception today bringing in 2 Dorado and 1 Striped Marlin.
Water Temps were 72-74 degrees. Marlin were biting live and dead rigged Mackeral. Dorado were hitting soft lures.

Derek & Jason
Father and son head out on ReelRum and caught some Sierra. Along the way back to the office some pirates tracked them down. Here is their photo opp in front of the RedRum Office. Nice job guys! I hope you enjoyed the fresh ceviche.
The marlin are back!
Another day without the Internet here on the Marina, but a beautiful Monday with clear blue skies and sunny weather at a comfortable 81degrees Fahrenheit. The wind stayed fairly calm today, picking up a bit in the afternoon, while the water temp was at about 73-74 degrees Fahrenheit.
Their first trip ever to Cabo, Jason and his son Derek headed out with Omar and Americo to the Sea of Cortez aboard ReelRum. Fleeing from Wisconsin for spring break, they decided to head out fishing while mom got a massage, laid by the pool and relaxed. Derek, the mature, polite and anxious 8th grader was excited to be down in Cabo and ready to conquer the seas to catch some fish! They came back a bit early from their trip around 12:30…Jason didn’t feel to well so they called it a day. They fought a Dorado for a bit but lost it in the end. Derek was all smiles in front of the office with one of the 4 Sierra he reeled in along with the two pirates he posed with. Well done guys!
Christine Lavallee and Jason Bourcier headed out on RedBeam with Marshall and Muneca. These two newlyweds are on the honeymoon after getting hitched up in Winnipeg, Canada. They’re visiting Cabo for the first time all the way from Manitoba, Canada. They headed out to the Sea of Cortez and hung out around the 95, which is where they reeled in two striped Marlin. One of them didn’t make it as the hook was caught; however they released the second Marlin. Congrats on the Marlin and on the marriage! Send us those pics Jason, I want to put you newlyweds up on the website stat.
Tim Wilson and Rob Whitsett were the first to arrive this morning and the first to take off aboard RumRunnin with Javier and Manuel. We loaded their beer on the boat and they were ready to roll. Tim and Rob are visiting from North Carolina with their families. You can more than venture to say that they are BIG Tarheel fans, so congrats on that big win guys! These two are good buddies that wanted to go fishing while the wives and the teenage daughters hung at the pool and relaxed. They headed out about 10 miles to the 95 as well and in the first hour caught a nice Dorado on some dead bait. They ventured out hoping for Marlin and struck gold on a green and black lure while trolling; they reeled him in and released their first Marlin of the day. Their second catch and release Marlin they caught on live bait. The seas were active today, with lots of marlin and they even saw a huge Whale Shark. Nice job guys, I’ll look forward to your pictures as well. Go Tarheels!
And last but not least are Marlo Rossner and Jeff Curtis from San Diego along with Ethan Erickson from Vegas. The taxi happened to drop them off at the wrong side of the marina and they hoofed it over to our office and we quickly shuffled them aboard El Nuevo with Alex, beer in hand of course. They headed out to bank 95 as well and had a double striped marlin hook up around 12:30, first Ethan on the rod and then Jeff, they landed both stripers for a picture and then released them. One of the marlins was caught on a green and white lure while the other one was caught on live bait. Can’t wait to see the pictures!

Easter Sunday
A beautiful Easter morning in Cabo San Lucas, completely sunny, clear blue skies and a light breeze. I can’t imagine a better day to be out on the water hunting for fish instead of eggs on Easter Sunday. Visiting us from Wyoming is John Benson, along with Jennifer and Sam Lewis. They went out with Omar and Americo aboard ReelRum. The water temperature at the Sea of Cortez sat at around 73 degrees Fahrenheit. The morning stayed fairly calm and the wind picked up in the afternoon on the way back in. They stayed along the shore and went out to Gordo Banks and caught and released 2 Roosters along with some 20 Sierra! They were catching on small Sardines and the live Mackerel bait as well. Great day on the water guys! We hope to see you down again soon.
The second RedRum boat out on the water today was RumRunnin. We met the fun family Tish, Greg and Elizabeth at the Fred Hall Show in Long Beach. They had their heart set on going after some more Marlin and Dorado so headed away from the shore on the Sea of Cortez. They didn’t reel in another Marlin, but they did reel in a few Sierras that they kept. The Early Bird around the corner fixed them up a nice plate of ceviche enjoy their catch! Elizabeth, the youngster in the group is no spring chicken when it comes to fishing, she’s been fishing way past her 9 and a half years, from Alaska to California to Cabo. She said it best, “It’s all for the love of the game.” Even if you don’t catch what you wish to.

Saturday - April 11th
Taking a break from fishing today, Rene and Luis took the Leveroni party out on our 54’ Utopia for a joy ride and some snorkeling at Santa Maria bay. There were a few requests that the group made beforehand to ensure a good time: stock the boat with cerveza, a few bottles of liquor, a blender and of course since we’re in Mexico, salsa and guacamole. Only problem is that Rene forgot to bring his Speedo to work today. Sorry Rene, you’re stuck with bartender duty.
The rest of the crew focused on the less glamorous though just as important, if not more so, maintenance work. There will be no Marlin catching if that engine doesn’t start!

A Good Friday
Joining us today from Surfside, California was Tish, Greg and their charming nine year-old Elizabeth. The serious anglers that they are, Tish stopped by the other day inquiring about the conditions out on the water. She was understandably hesitant given the wind and the full moon and didn’t want to go home empty-handed. Luckily they came to RedRum. We paired them up with Omar and Americo on our 28’ ReelRum and they came back bragging about the Marlin they caught, and released, young Elizabeth would add. A true conservationist even at nine years!
Out on our 33’ El Nuevo with Alex and Ramon was Denis, Alison and Harvey from Canada. Not wanting to be left in the dust by a nine year-old they caught a Marlin as well and just about brought back some Dorado for dinner; next time guys!
A wise man once said, “A bad day fishing still beats a good day working” and we’re all pretty confident that the folks on our 54’ Utopia had a great time though no bites. Luckily they had plenty of beer and friends to enjoy their fishing trip turned whale watching excursion.
