Happy Easter to all!

Hi Guys,

Another slow day in cabo. There really isn't much to report today either (unfortunately).
Our Navy guys David, Tyler and Cassidi wen't out on Rum Runnin' for their last day of fishing and came back with 11 Yellowfin. They wen't out with Captain Alex and Mate Americo.
THey headed out 38 miles out and spotted 2 Marlins but they did not bite.
Today's fishing was done mostly by the Jaime Bank. That's where we were also told the yellowfin were spotted.

David, Tyler and Cassidi learned how to vaccum seal the fish, they are heading off tomorrow and offered to help vaccum seal so they could take it back with them. A lot of fish they are taking back home I must say. They were our lucky group this week and very awesome people. Hopefully we will see them again in the near future
Since they had a lot of fish they needed 2 coolers to take it back home! Safe Flight guys

On Tantrum we had Sean Russell and Beth Piantidosi who after a full day of fishing, came back with 2 Sierra. They did not stop by but I heard they had a great time.

and on a cruise/snorkeling trip we had Steve Leveroni and his crew who decided to start their trip at 10. They had an awesome day with Capt. Mike Powell. They had taken this trip last year, so they are familiar and decided to do it again this year.
Hopefully we'll see more of them in the upcoming months.

Not Much To Report

Hey guys, hope everyone is enjoying this day. I know a lot of people got the day off, so I really hope you make the best of it.

Things in cabo are very calm, not a lot going on in the streets, but I am pretty sure the beaches are packed with people who came down to enjoy some time off work!

Fishing began really good this week but started to decline as we approached mid week. Today we had 4 boats out but only 2 of them were able to catch fish.

On Tantrum Captain Ramon and Mate Juan were waiting at the Main Dock for Jim and Michelle Freas who got off a cruiser to fish for a few hours. They reeled in a HammerHead Shark. They were out on the Sea of Cortez and along their patch they came accross this shark.
Jim and Michelle are very nice friendly people, I hope they enjoyed their trip and come back soon.

On Rum Runnin our Navy Friends, David, Cassidi, Chris and new member Tyler wen't out to catch more fish and after a full day fishing, starting off with a couple of hours doing inshore and then heading out offshore, they managed to reel in 2 Dorado. Tomorrow will be their last day fishing and maybe they'll catch something more! I will keep you posted.

Winds are blowing at 10-15mph and the temperture is 79F. It's not that windy but I guess yesterday's wind did have an impact in today's fishing outcome.

Tomorrow will be another day and with more chances of a longer fish report.

Very Windy Day

Hey Everybody, today was a very day here in Cabo San Lucas, we had winds blowing at 25mph so you can imagine what the outcome in fishing was...not too good. It wasn't bad either, or at least not for the people who came fishing and caught fish!

We had Bruce Weaver for a second day of fishing on the 32' RedBeam. They headed out towards the 95 bank and only reeled in 2 yellowfin. Bruce and his crew had fished with us on Sunday and that day they did 1 mako shark. Thanks guys, hope to see you again real soon.

On a half day trip we had Jonathan Rosenfeld, Roberto, Lisa and toddler Max on the 28' Anzuelo II. Jonathan came by yesterday while jogging and decided to ask information on a fishing trip, he went back to talk to his family about it and decided to go fishing. Lisa reeled in a Hammerhead, not sure how big it was but that is awesome Lisa!!! and not only that, they also reeled in 2 Rooster, 7 Trigger and 1 Gabrilla. They caught a bit of everything. They only did Inshore fishing but had a great day out in the water. I hope to see you guys again soon.

And finally we had Daniel Felland and his girlfriend Mandy coming off a cruise ship to get on a Panga. They were delayed just a bit, but still had plenty of time to catch and release 3 Rooster fish. Very good guys, hope you had an awesome time!

The rest of our boats weren't so lucky and did not catch anything. But thank you all for fishing with RedRum. We had a total of 5 boats out today. The weather was warm...78F. Hopefully by tomorrow, things will be getting better.

Donovan's Conquering the Ocean

It seems Jim's luck has not abandoned him or his crew after all. The last couple of days he's been reeling in Yellowfin and Marlin. On Monday things were a bit slow as you may have already read, so Jim decided it was time for a backup plan...Calling his Brother John to come fish with him. John has a "different" way of fishing and even though some times he does come back to the office without any fish or maybe just Calamarlin... these past few days it has been the complete opposite.

Yesterday Jim, John and crew went out for a second day on Ziggy with Captain Manuel and after a full day of fishing, they all came back to the office with a big smile in the face as if they could walk over the blue waters of the Pacific...they had conquered the Sea of Cortez together. Together they managed to catch a 180 Lb. Marlin and 7 Yellowfin the bigges one weighing 45Lbs! I don't know how these guys did it, but like I said in the previous paragraph...John has a "different" way of fishing a very lucky guy!

Today these nice gentlemen switched to our 32' Rum Runnin and decided to give their luck a try on this boat instead, but they weren't alone. They brought along a new team player...Ryan "Picoso" Donovan. Now we had 3 Donovans out in the water....uh ooh! Poor fishies people, these guys were putting their heart and mind to one single thing, catching good fish. One of Jim's friends was not able to make it today, but that didn't stop this party of 5 from going out.

The gang was fishing around different spots, and even though I told them to head off to the Sea of Cortez because that's were all the hot spots were (I got the feeling the Nick Suggestion was probably not to be trusted, after all I am not a fisherman and even though I have been working here for two months I still have plenty to learn.) Anyway, they knew where to go, what they wanted and what they had to catch. Captain Omar and Mate Americo really worked hard today and these guys ended their trip with a couple of Yellowfin. I am sure they were going to have some of it cooked up tonight at their favorite restaurant Misiones de Kino. Today was "Uncle Jim's" last day fishing. He's a very nice man, he's just like one of the guys, very down to earth.

But they were not the only ones to do great these last couple of days. Besides Jim and crew we also had Wayne Murphy sharing a boat with Paul Detwiler yesterday. These guys were on the 32' RedBeam and after a full day fishing they caught and released a striped Marlin. Very good guys, I am glad you decided to fish with us and so excited to know you will recommend us to all your friends.

We also had Burt Vervoorn for a half day fishing trip on the 28' Anzuelo. After begining his fishing journey with Kristina, Michael and Christopher these guys also caught a released not one, but two striped Marlin...WOW 4 Marlins in one day seems very good to me! They did not come back to the office as they had a cruiser to catch, but thank you guys for choosing RedRum for your fishing adventure.

On March 30th and aboard our 32' Rum Runnin we had Greg Pisk, very cool guy fishing with his family Bailey, Riley, Jackson , Adam and Spencer Pisk. After coming back to the office and making fun of the little guy who got bit by a Pelikan, they were happy to have caught 7 Sierras and 1 Dorado. They left their fish with us to Vaccum seal it and freeze it up for them. I am pretty sure they will enjoy it once they head back to their hometown.

David Rittelmann, Cassidy and Chris began their first day out of three on our 28' Tantrum. After being out by the lighthouse and other spots until almost 4 o'clock these Navy guys came back with 1 Marlin and 5 Yellowfin! They will be fishing again on April 1st and 2nd. I will let you guys know what the outcome is.

Today, another faithful customer, Jeffrey Berman and Daughter Clair went out fishing for a second day on the 28' Anzuelo. When they came into the office this morning they said one thing...Today we want Marlin...I said your wish is my command!!! and it seems I pushed the right button this time because they did catch and "release" 1 Marlin. They had an excellent time and I am pretty sure this will definetely not be the last time we have these nice people fish with us. Thank you for the good comments Jeff, nuestro nuevo amigo...our new friend.

And last but not least we had Joseph, Denice and Wally Halicki fishing with us today. Joseph and Denise were telling me they have fished with RedRum for over 10 years and they even had the gear to prove it...one hat and 1 longsleeve shirt...I am guessing these the ones that were sold a long time ago because I had never seen these designs. It's always nice to see customers showing off their loyalty like this, this is what makes fishing and working for this company sooo worth it.

These guys had an excellent day out today, they were with Captain Cesar and Mate Ramon and came back with a big white plastic bag filled with yellowfin. They caught a total of 11 and were out fishing by the Gordo Bank, the light house and El Cerro "The Hill" We will have these guys fishing with us again.

So as you can see, these past couple of days has been great for fishing, especially for Marlin and Yellowfin which is what most of you want to catch.
In conclusion, yesterday we had a total of 5 Marlin, 12 yellowfin and 1 Dorado, while today we had 1 Marlin and 14 yellowfin. The fish are coming back people, so don't hesitate to come fishing with RedRum!

The knot tying chronicles... Act 2

I know the story is riveting and many of you are on the edge of your seats just waiting to see what happened on day two of Uncle Jim's fishing adventure. Well who am I to keep you waiting.

Uncle Jim was joined by his good friend's Mason and Dave today, they both flew in from Boston yesterday afternoon and were ready to enjoy some time on the water. Jim, Mason and Dave joined Captain Manuel aboard Ziggy today and the plan was to try to hit up some of the Yellowfin schools that had been popping up around San Jaime Bank and the Golden Gate the last few days. Captain Manuel has never been accused of being afraid to make a long run if he thinks the fishing is better at a particular bank, but the plan was to stay relatively close on Monday. Well, I guess there is a great reason that there is no translation for the word "plan" from English to Spanish. After hearing about some fish over the radio, Captain Manuel made a run and at the end of the day was almost 45 miles offshore. One would think this would give Jim, ample time to study the knot tying techniques of the crew, but not so much. End of the day tally was 45 miles offshore, no fish, no bites, no knots. You can imagine the excitement and enthusiasm in my uncles tone when I told him of the boat that got back around Noon that had caught 2 Marlin right out front of the Arch, less than 2 miles from shore.

This just goes to show that even family members get skunked from time to time. While we do produce some of the best fishing in the world, at times it is still fishing and not catching in Cabo.

As for the rest of the RedRum boats today, some had better success than the salty Donovan from Massachusetts. Geoff Bacci, Mike Reding, Neil Ackerman and Michael Pakkus are all down from Chicago, Illinois celebrating Geoff's 30th birthday. These guys came in to the office in the morning like they had come straight from Cabo Wabo, and they quite possibly may have. Well, in good spirits and full of good spirits can either be a recipe for disaster or a thing of beauty. Today it was a thing of beauty, the guys had great luck with Captain Ramon and his Mate Juan, finding the Yellowfin early and catching several nice fish. They spotted a few Marlin throughout the day, but just couldn't get them to bite.

The fish that wouldn't bite was the case for Captain Cesar today aboard RedBeam. Cesar hosted Andy Buchholtz and his 4 buddies from Madison, Wisconsin. (Now that I think about it, Andy must have been a referral from my good buddy Brian Adam in Madison. Special shout out to Brian!) Well, Andy and the guys only chose to fish for a half-day and that limited their ability to get out to where the Tuna had been. Captain Cesar had to stick around the arch and lighthouse to maximize the fishing time, and while they spotted several Marlin, they just couldn't tease them into eating.

Sunday Session... Knot tying chronicles, Part 1

Sunday was a beautiful day in Cabo and our anglers were ready to get out on the water in search of the Yellowfin that had been found on Saturday. Water temps are still anywhere from 70-75 degrees and more and more bait is starting to show up. There have even been reports out of the lower East Cape, Los Frailes area in particular that show tons of Marlin. Hopefully, they are making their way down to Cabo, because I know we have plenty of anglers that would love a shot at catching their first Marlin.

Today we had 4 boats on the docket, starting with my Uncle, James Donovan who is down with a few friends for 4 days of fishing. Uncle Jim, who normally fishes from his 29' Everglades out of Chatham, Massachusetts is looking to trade in a few of the Bluefin Tuna he usually catches for some Yellowfin and Marlin action. I have made sure to tell our Captains and Mates that at the end of the 4 days, I would at least like for him to be able to tie his own knot (any knot,) or learn how to rig a live Caballito. It amazes me that someone can catch 100+ lb Bluefin without knowing how to tie a basic fishing knot. Anyway, for his first day on the water Uncle Jim wanted to fish inshore from a Panga. We hooked him up with Carlos, our excellent Panga Captain, and they were able to bring in a dozen or so Sierra. They lost quite a few to the hungry sea lions, but had a blast in the meantime. And for those inquiring minds, after day one, still no knot tying ability.

Jeff Berman and his daughter Claire from Illinois, joined Juan and Ramon for a day aboard TantRum. Seems like they found the schools of Tuna, but were a bit late on the action. They did get one nice 30lb Yellowfin, but for the most part the bite had slowed by the time they got to the school.

Bruce Weaver, a multiple repeat customer of ours, and his family joined Cesar and Raymond for a day aboard RedBeam. They too were late to the action on the Tuna, but did get a nice Mako shark.

Finally, Jason Nieson along with his son Hunter and father Charles, headed out for a second day with us. After getting skunked on day 1, this three generation trio had to find some action and Javier and Americo were there to guide them along. These guys were the lucky ones that got into the Tuna early and were rewarded with 4 really nice Yellowfin. They were happy to have something to show for their two days on the water and friends and neighbors alike back home will be more than happy to share a few of those filets with the guys.

Yellowfin seem to be biting.

Another day here in cabo and things don't seem to be picking up so well.
Like any other day, the weather has been very nice, I guess it's just the winds blowing from 10-15mph that are causing this fish fast!

Yesterday we had 2 boats out but only Ryan and Kristie Darnell who were on Tantrum came back with 1 Sierra, 1 Dorado and a squid. Although we are not following their tracks, they are out there. We call them the Cala-Marlin!

Today we had one boat out Tantrum. And it was a shared charter. We had Wayne and LaRae Murphy and Emily and Derek Walters (who just got married and are here on their honeymoon)
The went fishing by the Golden Gate bank and said that as soon as they threw the lines in the water, they kept reeling in yellowfin. They caught a total of 7 yellowing.
