Well is looks like Hurricane Rick is bearing down on us, but with each report the storm seems to dissipate more and more. What once was a Category 5 is now down to a Category 3, with estimates that it will drop to a Category 1 hurricane by the time it makes land fall tomorrow evening. Please keep everyone down here in Cabo in your thoughts and prayers. Their are literally tens of thousands of families down here living with nothing more than a cardboard style roof, and many with less than that.
Now for the good stuff... Sundays report.
Ronald and Brandon Jones, a really neat father and son duo from Nashville, finished up their work in Cabo on Sunday with another great day on the water. The guys had a few Dorado and a Marlin I believe, but it was tough to get an accurate report. The reason why, being that there was a bit of an accident on board. After catching one of their Dorado, their mate, Salvador, put the subdued fish in the fish box, but apparently the fish wasn't as subdued as they thought. The Dorado flipped and flopped his way out of the box and as Salvador went to grab the fish it twisted, sending a 9/0 J hook all the way through his forearm. Brandon came back astonished, claiming "that guy was a warrior out there, a minute after it happened he spotted a Marlin and told the Captain to position the boat so he could pitch bait to it." Brandon was flabbergasted, "No" he exclaimed, "head for the Marina, we need to get you to the hospital." All was well and good, Salvador is doing fine, and is actually the talk of the town (or marina) right now. Pictures to come, as soon as Brandon sends them in.
Rick McBride and his buddy, from Escondido, California, fished today on Grey Light with Captain Ulyses and they had a great day. After catching a few Dorado, they headed out to a school of porpoise another of our Captains had found and were able to get two nice Yellowfin as well.
Tom Frickman, Steve Briner, Todd Kivchoff, and George Kees, all from Kentucky, fished with today on Rum Runnin. The guys had two days booked, but were only able to get out for one day with the storm coming and the port being closed today. Good thing they made the most of their one day with 8 nice Dorado.
Frank Ratel and his guys were out for their second day on the water and hammered the Yellowfin Tuna today. They fished with Cesar and Fabian aboard the RedBeam and had 25 Yellowfin, some in the 50lb class.
Steve Bergey, Brad Bowen, and Ray Young our good good friends from Maine were down for their yearly trip, this being their 5th, 6th or 7th year, I can't remember. The guys had 4 days of fishing planned and were really looking forward to hammering the fish. They had a great first day, bringing in 8 Dorado aboard ReelRum with Americo. Unfortunately, Ray's father, Bob slipped and fell at their hotel and tore ligaments and tendons througout his leg. After talking with Doctors and with the storm on the horizon, the guys decided it was best to get Bob home. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with Bob and we wish him a speedy recovery. Hopefully, we will see you guys before next October.
