Another great day on and off the water in Cabo San Lucas, while the water temps are in the high 70's, the air temps are in the high 80's right now. Marlin have been close to the Marina and have been seen in high numbers. The problem is getting them to bite. They have been very active chasing pitch baits, but getting hooked up has been tougher to come by. However, just because it is tough, doesn't mean our crews can't do it.
Chris Cordova and Richard Snell, as you may remember if you have been staying up with the reports, had a problem with the aftercooler on ReelRum on their Sunday charter. They came out again, on us, and had another phenominal day. After catching the two Marlin on Sunday, Tuesday's charter was aimed at filling a cooler full of fish. Chris and Richard caught 4 real nice Dorado, some in the 50lb class. The guys were once again really happy when they came back to port, this time under their own power. Chris and Richard couldn't say enough about the RedRum crews.
John Garwood and Bob Rooks along with their wives, Carol and Julie were also our guests on Tuesday. Originally, the guys were looking for a share, but after talking with the wives and finding out they wanted to join in on the fun, they decided to take the boat for themselves. Problem was, I had already found a share for them. John, Bob, Carol and Julie were nice enough to invite Mike Lewis out to join them and they had a great day getting to know one another and chasing Marlin. They were able to catch and release one real nice Marlin and they also caught a nice Dorado.
Shaun and Krista Roca our good friends from Florida are serious anglers and basically planned this trip around sport-fishing, you can see how we made fast friends there. Being from Florida, they catch their fare share of Dorado, albeit peanut size bait Dorado, but Dorado nonetheless. They were interested in catching a little bigger Dorado and few Striped Marlin. They said they saw more than 30 Marlin with Mate Americo virtually hitting half of them in the head with bait. However, getting hook-sets were tough to come by. Shaun is a believer in the moon phases and he attributed the lack of hook-ups to, as we say in Spanish, La Luna. Around mid-day the tables turned and Shaun caught and release a nice Striper. A few minutes later a Dorado, a bit bigger than they were used to, crashed the spread and was quickly landed. Krista even had another Marlin on for a short time, the fish however spit the hook after a short fight. They too were very impressed by the crew on El Nuevo and showed visible discomfort when learning that the boat was not available again during their stay.
Finally, with Manuel and Javier on Rum Runnin, we had Andre, Blane, Sara and Harley. Proud new owners of a time-share over at Villa Del Arco, they were ready to get on the water and experience all that Cabo had to offer. Unfortunately, the waters didn't cooperate, the guys did all they could to get a hook-up, it was however "one of those days". That's Fishing!

Sharon's Catch

Carl and I are back at work and hating it! We need to be on vacation full time!! We totally enjoyed our trip to Cabo and LOVED our fishing with Omar and Americo. Here are a few pics of our Marlin and other stuff from our day of fishing. It’s not a question of IF we will be back, it is WHEN. Hopefully soon….

Sorry for the delay on Mondays report.
Yesterday was madness... We had five boats head out, 4 occupied by the Roberts wedding party and one by the Ferrigno's who are here enjoying our stay and play package.
The Ferrigno's headed out with Javier and Manuel aboard Rum Runnin and had a great day on the water. They saw tons of Marlin playing on the surface and pitched bait to numerous fish. They were able to catch and release Two nice Striped Marlin, after hooking up on live pitch baits. They were also able to get a real nice Dorado in the 40 lb range on a dead stitch bait.
David and Mike Roberts along with their wives, and 16 of their close friends are down for a wedding here in Cabo this week. The Roberts are from the Austin area so it was tough seeing them come in with their burnt orange fishing shirts. As most of you know, Team RedRum members Brooke and Ryan as well as Luis, all attended TCU and we have quite the instate rivalry. We put our differences aside and got to the task at hand, putting the 4 boats on some fish. Tough to get accurate reports, as the different boats came in all about the same time. I know for a fact that David Roberts and his crew on El Nuevo had 12 Marlin strikes and were able to bring in 4, catch and release. Being a Captain himself, David knew a good crew and he said Alex and Ramon on El Nuevo were the best he ever fished with. He was very happy with their day on the water. Marshall on the Red Beam, took out another 4 from their party and he too was able to catch and release 4 Marlin and also brought in 4 Dorado. Another member of their party came in to tell me they too had a great day, not sure which boat with a few Marlin, some Dorado and several Hammerhead Shark hook-ups.
Sorry for the lack of detail, but I think it is pretty evident everyone had a great day. Lots of Marlin in the water and the boys seem to be getting them on either live pitch bait, dead stitched bait or the kites. Dorado have been big in the 40-50lb range. Hammerheads have been devouring live bait, and there are even a few Yellowfin roaming around with a nice 40lb class fish brought in yesterday as well.
We will let you know how they boys are doing today as soon as we can.

Day two for our friends from Texas.
Chris Ellis, a former TCU Horned Frog, gave me a call late last night mentioning they wanted to get on the water again and we fortunately had El Nuevo available for them today. Chris, along with his two brothers, Dad and two young boys, headed out with Alex and Ulyses. Chris and I talked in the morning and we agreed that some inshore fishing for the two little guys, Chris' son and nephew would be a good idea. The kids had a blast bringing in some nice Sierra, 6 of them, and also 6 Bonita. After getting the little guys involved, they decided to head offshore for some bigger fish for the dads. When the guys got back after the half day they had a real big Dorado to show off. The boys said they saw a lot of Marlin but couldn't get any to bite.

Making it right, when it seemed to go wrong.
ReelRum was the first boat to get back today, and unfortunately it was not under it's own power. Richard and Kristen Snell, along with Chris Cordova headed out this morning with Americo and Manuel on ReelRum looking for some Dorado and Marlin. The day looked to be very promising from the start with 5 or 6 Marlin spotted before 7:30am. Manuel pitched a live bait to one of the Marlin and got him hooked up and the first battle was on. After releasing the Marlin, Manuel stitched up a bait and they were then lucky enough to bring in a very nice Dorado. Marlin and Dorado before 8:30am and things were looking good. That's when the bad luck hit and Americo had a problem with the engine. Not wanting to chance running the boat anymore he quickly called in for help. I want to first thank, Richard, Kristin and Chris for their understanding of the situation. As with most problems on boats, as is the nature of the beast, you encounter the problems out on the water.
Americo and Manuel did a great job explaining the problem and assuring the clients that help was on the way. However, just because a boat can't move doesn't mean it can't fish right? Manuel quickly rigged the new kite fishing rig we put on the boat and sent it up into the air with two live bait floating off in the distance. Sure enough another Marlin hit and the fight was on. Marshall from the Red Beam arrived a short time later and Kristin jumped on board the Beam, rod and all. Marshall and Kristin chased and fought the big Marlin which the boys estimated at close to 200lbs.
All in all, while there were problems, they had a great day on the water and after we make some repairs tomorrow, they will head back out on Tuesday to reap the few hours they were forced to leave on the water today.
Karma is a powerful thing, and you have to love when good things come our way!

Some to mount, some to eat, plenty of it all with RedRum!
Cory and his wife Magen from Salt Lake City, Utah were back at the Marina by 10am proudly displaying a Marlin and a catch and release flag. Being from Utah their fishing experience comprised of mostly Trout so they were thrilled to catch their first Marlin in Cabo. They fished with Marcial and Fabian on our 32’ RedBeam about four miles from the Marina on the sea of Cortez and caught their striper using live bait.
Danny and his son Josh from North Carolina went out for the fourth time this week, talk about some serious fishermen. They stayed inshore today on our 28’ ReelRum and caught 3 Red Snapper and 15 Triggerfish with the help of captain Omar and mate Americo. They used live bait to catch their dinner just off of the lighthouse on the Pacific side. It was their first time in Cabo and they said that they’ll definitely be back.
Out for the third time this week, our friends from Louisiana, Ed and Rob caught and released 2 Marlin and brought back 2 Dorado, all before noon. The first Marlin weighed 180 pounds and the second came in at 140 pounds. The Dorado’s were nice sized as well measuring 59” and 47”.
Robert from Fort Worth, Texas was the first one to arrive this morning and the last angler back. He’s been fishing in Cancun before but it was his first time in Cabo and he was after a Marlin. We set him up with Captain Javier and mate Manuel on our 32’ RumRunnin and Rob did not come back disappointed. They ventured over to point 95 on the sea of Cortez where they picked up a Hammerhead shark with our kite that ended up breaking the line. Then using live bait, Rob reeled in his Marlin and a Dorado as well. Nicely done!
