Sunday, typical Tuna action with some mixed bag mixed in

Tuna are still around, and still plentiful, and still super close. Cabo never ceases to amaze me! 4 miles offshore, slamming rods and Tuna all over the place! So cool!

My good buddy Jimmy Glover over at http://www.bajainsider.com/ has some friends in town right now and he wanted to get them out for a half day while the fishing was red hot. Destin Brockner, Jason Johnson and Pete Nyiri joined Jesus and Americo aboard RedRum and they managed to pull in 8 Yellowfin and a nice 30 lb Dorado all before 11:30am! Enjoy those Tuna steaks amigos!

Luis Romero and his wife Kristina are visiting from mainland Mexico and he caught word that RedRum was the fleet to fish with. (Thanks to Ty for the recommendation.) Luis was interested in Billfish, and while a lot of customers have been enamored with the Yellowfin bite, the Striped Marlin action has been really hot as well. Luis and his wife caught and released 3 Striped Marlin, and also caught a nice Yellowfin and nice Dorado for dinner.

An apology of sorts...

Have to apologize for missing a few posts back on the 1st and 2nd of June. Things have been a little crazy around the Team RedRum household with the Wife in her 9th month of pregnancy. Still trying to pull my weight around the office and covering office duties when Nick has his days off but slacked on the Fish Reports. To sum up the 1st and 2nd, as well as the 3rd, 4th and 5th; TUNA, Yellowfin Tuna and tons of them. Usually, when we see the Yellowfin runs they are 2-3 days long and then the school moves on and we don't see them for another few weeks or so.





Not the case with these Yellowfin, never saw a single Frigate bird working, and never saw a single porpoise cruising through the area. If it wasn't for the electronics telling us we had great temp breaks, and good bait below, most boats would have cruised right past the area. We have been fishing this school straight out of Cabo anywhere from 3-6 miles offshore. Most fish have been in the 20-35 lb range, but I did throw live bait when we had a quadruple hook-up on artificials Saturday, and landed a fish in the 40-45lb range. You'd have to think that a few of the bigger boys are under those 20-40lb fish, but your bait never even gets to em. As soon as my bait hit the water I was bit, I actually got spooled up a bit as it happened even faster than I expected. Out of 11 knockdowns from 7am to 11am, we caught 6 Yellowfin and kept 4. One for the crew, one for myself, and one each for my buddies who came along. Just because you catch 20 doesn't mean it is right, or legal, to keep them all.





That being said, yesterday was the first day we didn't have all our boats come back with Yellowfin. It will be interesting to see what today brings and if the boys can find the school or if they have finally moved on. If they have, I guess we'll just have to fish for the Marlin and Dorado that have been all over the shoreline the past week.

Lots of action on the water!

Childhood friends Jeff, Blake and Jason from Humble, Texas went out on our 28’ ReelRum with Omar and Americo. They went over to Golden Gate on the Pacific side and caught and released 3 Striped Marlin and lost one. The Marlin weighed in between a hundred and forty and a hundred and fifty pounds. They also caught 2 twenty five pound Dorado. The fight was had a mere three to four miles offshore.

Ed and Elizabeth and their children Nichael, Mark and Christine from Bothell, Washington went out on our 32’ RedBeam with Captain Marcial and Mate Fabian. They went out to the lighthouse about three miles offshore on the Pacific side and caught and released a hundred and forty pound Marlin and 3 twenty pound Dorado.

Jimmy, Scott, Joey and Leslie went out on two Panga boats and caught 2 Roosterfish, 1 Sailfish and 4 Dorado.

Joseph, Robert, David, Barbara, Irene and Alan went out on our 32’ RumRunnin with Javier and Manuel. They caught and released a seventy pound Sailfish using live bait and 3 Marlin weighing in between a hundred and a hundred and sixty pounds. They also caught a small fifteen pound Dorado, all at Golden Gate on the Pacific side.

Michael, Elaine, Robert and Jessica from Florida went out on one of our partner boats and caught a hundred and thirty pound Striped marlin, a seventy pound Bull Dorado, 12 small Dorado and a couple Bonita.

It was a great day out on the water for RedRum!!!

10 Dorado and 3 Marlin!!!

What a beautiful Sunday to spend time with the family out fishing in Cabo San Lucas. The temperature seemed to drop, if even just a degree to help these friends and families have a good time today. Troy and his young daughter Taryn, Mike and his teenage son Hayden who brought along friend Jacob, and Larry fished on our 32’ RumRunnin with Captain Javier and Mate Manuel. Out on the Pacific Ocean where the water was at eighty one degrees this group used a combination of live bait and lured to catch 10 Dorado and 3 Marlin! They kept 9 of the Dorado, the largest weighing thirty five pounds. Despite the wind they hooked up to three Marlin (Taryn said she caught two of them!), two of them weighing a hundred pounds and the third close to a hundred and thirty pounds. These anglers were serious, arriving even before I was there to open the office doors and staying out all day. Their enthusiasm and effort sure paid off, great job!

Texas takes Cabo once again!

The Zengerle group from Cuero, Texas, CCA supporters and first timers to Cabo went out on our 33’ El Nuevo with Captain Alex and Mate Ramon. They headed out to the sea of Cortez where the water was a steaming eighty four degrees. They used lures to catch 5 Tuna. The lucky crew took almost half of it home and the Texans from Cuero will be enjoying the rest for dinner tonight.

Jeff, Jakob, Zack, Debra and husband from East Bernard, Texas went out again for the second time this week on our 28’ RumRunnin with Javier and Juan. They had a horrible day on the water they said, catching a 50 pound Dorado using a lure, 2 twenty five pound Tuna and catch and releasing a 7 foot Sailfish. All of this only 15 miles south of our famous Arch where the water was eighty five degrees.

Sending a big Happy Birthday, or Feliz Cumplea~nos to George, our head Captain at RedRum who has been fishing these waters for the past thirty years. Muchas gracias for all of your heard work George!

CCA Texas takes on Cabo

Jeff, his sons Jakob and Zack, plus the Keller’s from East Bernard, Texas went out on our 32’ RumRunnin. They found out about RedRum through their CCA chapter and decided to come down to Cabo and give sportfishing a try with us. It’s their first time in Cabo and everyone was really excited to be here when they arrived at the office this morning. At a spot we call “Cabeza de Ballena”, or Whale’s Head on the sea of Cortez, the boys caught a forty five pound Dorado using live bait.

Jeannine, Fred, Ryan, Matt and Erica, also from Texas and CCA supporters, went out on our 33’ El Nuevo with Captain Alex, Mate Ramon and special guest Ryan Donovan. They used live bait to catch a large Sailfish at point 95 on the sea of Cortez and were back in time for happy hour. When I asked Ryan if he had anything he wanted to add to the report he insisted I let his readers know about his striking good looks. Being the honest girl that I am, I must insist that ya’ll decide for yourselves. Lucky for Ryan, Brooke likes his personality.

Mucho Tuna y Marlin Grande

Teri and Jerry Silva, their two teenage sons Jon and Jerry and their friend Robert from California fished on our 32’ RumRunnin with Captain Javier and Mate Manuel. They had a great day on the water catching 9 Tuna and a hundred and thirty pound striped Marlin. They spent their time on the sea of Cortez where the water reached eighty five degrees nd used lures for the Tuna and live bait for the Marlin. They’ll be taking home lots of Tuna and are going to have their Marlin mounted.

Robert, Chad, Brandon, Jordan, Chase and George from Austin, Texas went out on our 33’ El Nuevo with Captain Alex and Mate Juan. They used lures to catch 3 twenty pound Tuna on the sea of Cortez and also seemed to catch quite a buzz with plenty of beer leftover. Fish and fun mix well at RedRum.

Busy Day!

Out on our 28’ ReelRum with Captain Omar and mate Americo were Cosmo and Jon from Portland, Oregon with their two young boys. At around 10:30 am one of the boys reeled in a Striped Marlin weighing approximately 125 pounds, catch and release, using a blue and white lure. They were twenty five miles offshore on the sea of Cortez by Chileno bay where the water temperature was at seventy seven degrees.

Out on our 32’ RumRunnin were Jonathan and his brother and his two young kids Joshua and Jessica. They fished inshore close to Chileno bay and caught 3 Roosterfish and 1 Jack. Water temperature at that spot was close to seventy four degrees.

Paul, Grant and Ross from New Zealand went out on our 32’ RedBeam with Captain Marcial and mate Fabian. They caught 2 Tuna using lures and fought a Marlin and 2 Dorado that unfortunately got away. The action occurred at around 11:30am on the sea of Cortez in between point 1150 and 95.

Another bachelor party came through our doors today with Beau celebrating with four of his friends from California. They went out on our 33’ El Nuevo with Captain Marcial and mate Ramon and fished ten miles from the shoreline. They caught 1 Dorado using a green and white lure at point 95 on the sea of Cortez where water temperature was at eighty three degrees. They fought 2 Wahoo and another Dorado and saw plenty of Marlin that just didn’t want to bite.

Out on one of our partner boats were Ted and his son Daniel from Catalina Island, California and Tara and Josh from Destin, Florida. Fishing on the sea of Cortez they caught 2 Dorado, one of which Daniel reeled in, and 2 Tuna.

Some to mount, some to eat, plenty of it all with RedRum!

Cory and his wife Magen from Salt Lake City, Utah were back at the Marina by 10am proudly displaying a Marlin and a catch and release flag. Being from Utah their fishing experience comprised of mostly Trout so they were thrilled to catch their first Marlin in Cabo. They fished with Marcial and Fabian on our 32’ RedBeam about four miles from the Marina on the sea of Cortez and caught their striper using live bait.

Danny and his son Josh from North Carolina went out for the fourth time this week, talk about some serious fishermen. They stayed inshore today on our 28’ ReelRum and caught 3 Red Snapper and 15 Triggerfish with the help of captain Omar and mate Americo. They used live bait to catch their dinner just off of the lighthouse on the Pacific side. It was their first time in Cabo and they said that they’ll definitely be back.

Out for the third time this week, our friends from Louisiana, Ed and Rob caught and released 2 Marlin and brought back 2 Dorado, all before noon. The first Marlin weighed 180 pounds and the second came in at 140 pounds. The Dorado’s were nice sized as well measuring 59” and 47”.

Robert from Fort Worth, Texas was the first one to arrive this morning and the last angler back. He’s been fishing in Cancun before but it was his first time in Cabo and he was after a Marlin. We set him up with Captain Javier and mate Manuel on our 32’ RumRunnin and Rob did not come back disappointed. They ventured over to point 95 on the sea of Cortez where they picked up a Hammerhead shark with our kite that ended up breaking the line. Then using live bait, Rob reeled in his Marlin and a Dorado as well. Nicely done!

A full day

Michael and Maryann from Bend, Oregon went out on our 32’ RedBeam today with captain “El Ta Ta” and mate Fabian. They caught and released 5 Roosterfish, and brought back a Dorado, 3 Bonita and 5 Sierra, all caught in the sea of Cortez. It was a great day for them. They loved the boat, they loved the crew and said it was the best fishing trip they’d ever been on and would never fish anywhere else again. Now that’s what we like to hear when our clients come back.

Danny and his son Josh went out on our 28’ ReelRum will Omar and Americo and caught and released 2 Marlin using a combination of live bait and lures. Josh also caught and released a Hammerhead shark using our kite and a Dorado using live bait as well. They went out twice on Panga’s this week for inshore fishing and will be back for more offshore fishing tomorrow. What pro’s!

Matt and Scott from San Diego, CA went out on our 32’ RumRunnin and caught 2 Marlin on the sea of Cortez with captain Ulises and mate Mickey. The Marlin weighed between 140-150 pounds and measured roughly 100 inches long. They used both live and dead bait. They saw a lot of fish out on the water and hooked up twelve times…they had quite the fight.

Out for the second day in a row was the Watson group of friends from Louisiana. They went out on our 33’ El Nuevo and caught and released a Marlin and brought back Sierra and Yellowtail for dinner. Great job guys!

Slow day but still lots of play

It was a slow day for all of the boats in the Marina and unfortunately that includes us as well. But for some like Larry and Tobey from Louisiana, the day couldn’t have been better. By 11:30 am their boat was in the slip at the Marina. We at first thought it was because of lack of action but it turned out otherwise. They caught and released 3 Marlin on our 32’ RumRunnin with Javier and Manuel using live bait and trolling on the sea of Cortez in front of Santa Maria beach, a mere three miles from the shore. More time for happy hour now!

The Henry family from Texas went out on a partner boat today and caught and released 4 Roosterfish on the sea of Cortez, also by Santa Maria beach. It was the first time for the two daughters and they did a great job.

Calamarlin and sweet cheap flights to Cabo

Matt, Damon (two different people, though yes, we cater to movie stars) and a few friends ventured out on our 32' RedBeam today in search of adventure and came across a specie new to this area, the giant Calamarlin. This new creature is stealing the spotlight of our precious Marlin. Its a relationship of awe and angst, given the size of the beast (taller than you and me combined!) and its ability to satisfy the hunger of a Marlin.

Cousin species with the native Calamar (squid), town folk believe this mutation ocurred as a result of too many locals and tourists alike tossing pork into our bay. These beasts are so scary looking that a Mako shark swimming nearby jumped onto Matt and Damon's boat pleading for help.

On other news, airlines are loosing their minds, basically giving away great deals. Book that flight someone else just cancelled....now $100 bucks cheaper!

Its hard work but someone has got to do it!

Americo and his dad, one of the finest father and son duos in Cabo, took Russ and Kamleesh from Alberta, Canada out on our 28’ Californian “ReelRum”. They decided to head east on the sea of Cortez, about 30 miles offshore and found a Mako shark that wanted to play tug-o-war.

Out on our 32’ Bertram “El Nuevo”, Alex and Ramon opted for middle ground, staying between the sea of Cortez and the Pacific. Bill is an old friend, having fished with us plenty of times in the past and requested Captain Alex for this year’s trip. This decision proved not only fun but smart given the four Tuna they caught. With two more days scheduled to fish those Tuna better watch out!

Gordon and his friends from Ohio say that they’re here in Cabo on a “work trip”. But we all know better. It’s pretty hard to get much done in Cabo besides going fishing, taking in some rest and throwing back some “chelas” (ask for one next time you want a beer in Mexico and you’ll sound really cool). They were hoping for a big fish but at least they won’t be going home empty-handed, a nice Sierra will be accompanying them….well, at least until dinner time.

Getting most of the action of the day was a sweet couple out on one of our partner Panga boats. In just a few hours these two were back with a Dorado, two Tuna, Sierra and even a Squid. Nice work!

14 Tuna, 2 Striped Marlin

Fishing on our 33’ “El Nuevo” today were our friends from Oklahoma Office Systems. The group of six spent their time offshore on the pacific side where water temperature was at 69 degrees and wind was coming in from the SSE at 14mph. Alex and Cesar took Kendall and his group to their secret spot and the group caught four 20 to 25 pound Yellowfin Tuna.

Out for the second day this week Marco, Marco and Mauricio went out on our 32’ “RumRunnin” again but this time with Javier and Mickey. The group arrived early and their enthusiasm paid off with both Marco’s reeling in a Striped Marlin each and Mauricio bringing in a nice-sized Tuna.

The Davis’, whom we met recently at the San Mateo trade show, caught 2 Tuna today with Omar and Americo on our 28’ ReelRum. They hooked the fish roughly 20 miles offshore on the Pacific side of the Baja.

And last but not least, our group of six anglers fishing our 32’ “RedBeam” with Marcial and Mu~neca caught 7 Tuna, spotted quite a few Marlin, dolphins, a whale and even a couple of turtles.
