Sorry to everyone that checked in yesterday for our fishing report. We experienced some technical dificulties but not to worry, its all in the past and today we're making up for it with two reports, hooray!
Thursday April 9th, 2009 Fishing Report
Our first charter back today was our 28’ ReelRum led by Captain Omar and his mate Americo. Our champion crew from the 2008 Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot Tournament led our old friend Tom Plummer and new friend Tom Catlin over to the lighthouse for some inshore fishing. Tired of catching the beautiful Marlin Tom P. doesn’t care much for in a taco, they decided to focus on Sierra and Rooster fish. Both found themselves in Cabo this season without a partner to fish with so we added them to our shareboard and voila, a new friendship was forged. The partnership resulted in a successful catch of 27 Sierra and 1 Roosterfish.
Next back was our 32’ RumRunnin led by captain Javier and his mate Manuel. Also deciding to fish inshore were the Stritzke’s from Idaho. Water temperatures were between 72-73 degrees in the sea of Cortez, perfect environment for the 17 Sierra they caught.
And last but not least were Captain Alex and his mate Ramon on our 33’ El Nuevo, coming back with 3 Dorado’s for the Grenier party from Oregon and California.

6 MARLIN
Some took a look at the weather this morning and decided to stay in bed to sleep off the hangover; but the cold chill didn’t scare off our group from Ontario. The result? SIX MARLIN! Omar and Americo took the guys out an hour and a half from shore and led them right to the spot. Within ten minutes, two Marlin were hooked and that’s how it went the rest of the day. Poor guys barely got a chance to get to the beers. No worries, they’ll have plenty of time to celebrate their catch (and release) at their all-inclusive resort.

Billy – the winner of the day, a 160 pound striped Marlin

Dorado, Mako and even Marlin!
It’s sunny once again in Cabo at 79 degrees on land and 72-73 degrees Fahrenheit in the water. A bit windy on land (15 mph coming from SSE) and even windier on the water, a few of our new friends came back looking a little soaked. Almost made senator Steve miss the weather back home: the perfect cold drizzle of Washington D.C. Steve along with eight of his buddies were out on 33’ El Nuevo and 32’ RedBeam and scored 3 Dorado. Of course they had to come back to pick up some RedRum merchandise to show off their skills. Even for 8 guys 3 Dorado can be a bit much to finish for dinner and so they kindly made a donation to our crew. Thanks guys!
Picking a fight with a Mako shark and successfully reeling in 2 Marlin was Mike and his two daughters. Mike was mostly chaperoning for the day, helping his girls reel in the big ones. Omar and Americo took the family out on our 28’ ReelRum heading east to the sea of Cortez. The action started 33 miles out, a nice hour and a half to work on the suntan and gaze at the leaping whales still gracing our waters. At seven and twelve years old, there’s no doubt that Claire and Anna will grow up to be tough fisherwomen.
Some couples find romance in Cabo at a quiet beach while others like Tom and Caitlyn McCoy and Forest and Amy Glaser headed to the choppy waters of Baja. There’s nothing more romantic than reeling in your own dinner to these couples. Reaching Gordo banks at about 10am on our 32’ RumRunning, Javier and Manuel knew right where to catch the Dorado. And of course, the girls had to show their boys how it’s done.
Just to show that a little wind doesn’t scare our fleet!

Windy and Warm
April 2nd, 2009
Cabo San Lucas is experiencing some beautiful clear skies and sunny weather at 79 degrees with some whipping winds coming in from the south at 12 mph. The RedRum boats are still heading out to the Sea of Cortez near the 1150 bank and Punta Gorda bank.
The first boat back was RumRunnin with Javier and Cesar as the mate today. The crew on board is one of my dearest friends down here in Cabo, Cindy McIntosh who just celebrated her 40th birthday! Her husband flew in some of her family and friends from Windsor and Penticton, Canada as a surprise so they joined her on board. Stan the Man, friend Lea, brother Darin and friend Gig. They headed out far about 25 miles to the 1150 bank as well as outside of Punta Gorda, which is where they encountered their action for the day. Cindy fought the 45-50 lb Dorado that was reeled in by a green and black lure. They had 8 huge filets to take with them that they are going to cook up and enjoy this evening! So proud of you, Cindy I’ll expect to see the pictures in my inbox soon.
Finally coming back at about 3:45 is ReelRum with Omar and Americo. The cute couple Rob and Violet from Pennsylvania headed out far on the Sea of Cortez. They had their heart set on catching marlin. Although we gave them a fair warning about going out that far could mean not catching anything at all, they wanted to go for it anyway, so 33 miles they went. However, this is one of the days where the odds were in their favor. All caught on live bait, they reeled in a nice sized Dorado, 5 Mako Sharks all catch and release and they almost got their 150 lb. striped marlin aboard, but lost it right at the boat. It was Miss. Violet that did the reeling on that monster. Congrats guys, that is a hell of a day out there.
