Sunday, typical Tuna action with some mixed bag mixed in

Tuna are still around, and still plentiful, and still super close. Cabo never ceases to amaze me! 4 miles offshore, slamming rods and Tuna all over the place! So cool!

My good buddy Jimmy Glover over at http://www.bajainsider.com/ has some friends in town right now and he wanted to get them out for a half day while the fishing was red hot. Destin Brockner, Jason Johnson and Pete Nyiri joined Jesus and Americo aboard RedRum and they managed to pull in 8 Yellowfin and a nice 30 lb Dorado all before 11:30am! Enjoy those Tuna steaks amigos!

Luis Romero and his wife Kristina are visiting from mainland Mexico and he caught word that RedRum was the fleet to fish with. (Thanks to Ty for the recommendation.) Luis was interested in Billfish, and while a lot of customers have been enamored with the Yellowfin bite, the Striped Marlin action has been really hot as well. Luis and his wife caught and released 3 Striped Marlin, and also caught a nice Yellowfin and nice Dorado for dinner.

An apology of sorts...

Hola amigos,

Have to apologize for missing a few posts back on the 1st and 2nd of June. Things have been a little crazy around the Team RedRum household with the Wife in her 9th month of pregnancy. Still trying to pull my weight around the office and covering office duties when Nick has his days off but slacked on the Fish Reports. To sum up the 1st and 2nd, as well as the 3rd, 4th and 5th; TUNA, Yellowfin Tuna and tons of them. Usually, when we see the Yellowfin runs they are 2-3 days long and then the school moves on and we don't see them for another few weeks or so.

Not the case with these Yellowfin, never saw a single Frigate bird working, and never saw a single porpoise cruising through the area. If it wasn't for the electronics telling us we had great temp breaks, and good bait below, most boats would have cruised right past the area. We have been fishing this school straight out of Cabo anywhere from 3-6 miles offshore. Most fish have been in the 20-35 lb range, but I did throw live bait when we had a quadruple hook-up on artificials Saturday, and landed a fish in the 40-45lb range. You'd have to think that a few of the bigger boys are under those 20-40lb fish, but your bait never even gets to em. As soon as my bait hit the water I was bit, I actually got spooled up a bit as it happened even faster than I expected. Out of 11 knockdowns from 7am to 11am, we caught 6 Yellowfin and kept 4. One for the crew, one for myself, and one each for my buddies who came along. Just because you catch 20 doesn't mean it is right, or legal, to keep them all.

That being said, yesterday was the first day we didn't have all our boats come back with Yellowfin. It will be interesting to see what today brings and if the boys can find the school or if they have finally moved on. If they have, I guess we'll just have to fish for the Marlin and Dorado that have been all over the shoreline the past week.

Awesome fishing, really glad the waters warmed up so quickly this year and the fish arrived!!

Fish Report Nov. 7th - 11th SORRY FOR THE DELAY

Hey You!
I know we’ve been gone for a while, but here we are again bringing you the latest information on how fishing has been. If you’ve fished with us the last few days and sent in pictures I just want to let you know that we are uploading all of them right now and it’s gonna be a while before we finish it off so if you don’t see them right away, please be patient with us. I promise all your pics will be uplodad.
Things are really great here in Cabo, the weather is just fantastic! No sight of rain any time soon which is SUPERB and fishing is speechless. We’ve been having a lot of success with Marlin, Tuna and Dorado. Since this is a 5 day fish report I will write out a brief description on what was caught on our boats from Nov. 7th – 11th.
The average wind speed this week was between 6-8 miles per hour and waves were 3 and 4 ft high making the seas very nice to sail! It’s not rough or choppy out there so people, pack your bags and book the next flight to Cabo!
ON with the 411. This Is what REDRUM caught during the week. ENJOY!

Dia de los Madres... and IGFA

While yesterday was Mother's Day in the states, here in Mexico they celebrate on the 10th of May. Entonces, Feliz dia de las madres a todo las madres!!

Also welcome Tournament Anglers from the International Game Fish Association or IGFA. Today was the start of the invitation only Rolex IGFA World Championships. Good luck to all the anglers and especially those on RedRum Sportfishing's Pescado III.

John Matteson, Art Davis, and Michael Marks were back at on TantRum again today. After catching their weight in Yellowfin yesterday, they really wanted to try some inshore fishing, and Roostertail's were the prime target. They headed up the Sea of Cortez to chase some reports of some really nice sized Roosters and it didn't take Ramon long to find the spot. They had 4 huge Roosters in the 35-40lb range and a few Jack Crevalle's of the same size.

Next up we had Travis Knott and his buddies who hailed from all over the US. They fished with Omar and Jesus on Rum Runnin today. The guys were looking for a recommendation and like I said, while the Tuna are running, get out there and hammer them. Well hammer them they did, the guys caught their limit catching 16 Yellowfin.

Today we also had the Platt Family from Virginia down and they had a great day on the water as well. Gary and his son Michael, Daughter Kendra and her husband John had a blast bringing in 8 Yellowfin.

Pescado III had one Marlin during IGFA fishing, only 7 Marlin were caught throughout the fishing day. Congrats to Captain Marshall. If he can get one or two more in the coming days he should be able to crack the Top 10.

Explain to me why they have a Marlin tournament in May again?

Diana’s Farewell
Some of you may have heard the rumor and I’m writing to confirm it is true: today is my last day at RedRum. Being that we are a tough sport fishing company I will hold back the tears but I want to let everyone know that it has been a blast. I feel so lucky to have been part of the RedRum team since last March. There’s nothing like being happy to go to work and having fun all day long. RedRum owners John, Ryan and Brooke treated me like family and always made me feel appreciated. The Captains and Mates are great guys and always lots of fun. And of course, thank you to everyone that fished with RedRum. I will be off to begin work as an English teacher in Northern Thailand at the end of the month. It’s a beautiful country that I fell in love with years ago and I am excited to be fortunate enough to go back. Wish me luck!
