Friday, January 25th

The infamous Homer Jones and his wife Barbara headed out with Cesar for a day to try to catch Marlin. They went out with the right captain and the right boat! Tantrum put Barbara on her first Stripe Marlin, and added 4 more to Homer's count! They also had 2 Stripe Marlin that got off as well. It was a pleasure having them fish Redrum. Cesar and Americo said you 2 are welcomed back anytime.

El Nuevo pulled in right after Tantrum. Mr. and Mrs. Mukon headed out with Alex and Juan and were able to pull in a nice size Wahoo as well as a Tuna.

Steve Pohlman came in off a Cruise Ship and fished just long enough with Javier and Manuel to get onto a nice Stripe Marlin.

Mr and Mrs. Bennett walked into the Redrum office checking to see if we had any extra boats available for the day. It just so happened that ReelRum was not booked. I looked over at Omar and Jesus who were happily enjoying their breakfast and told them to get the boat ready. Excited, they both wrapped up their meals and hustled down to the boat to start the engine and head out. Mr. and Mrs. Bennett were able to catch and release 2 Stripe Marlin before heading back. They claim that Jesus "was the hardest working mate they had ever seen". That means a lot comming from a couple that has fished just about everywhere!

Friday night in Cabo San Lucas!

Attack of the Giant Squid!!

Our (2) 28' ft. boats got into a mess of Giant Squid today. The Marceau party hooked themselves into 4 Giant Squid while fishing on Tantrum with Cesar. Each of the squid were well over 6ft long. Cesar and Americo also worked to get them on 5 Yellow-fin Tuna as well as a Dorado. ReelRum was getting into a mess of squid just a mile or so away from Tantrum. The Sillman party fished on ReelRum and was able to catch 3 Yellowfin Tuna, catch and release 1 Stripe Marlin and 3 Giant Squid. The Tuna provided dinner at Misiones De Kino where we ran into them just as they were finishing up. "Best dinner we have had in Cabo", Mr. Sillman told us.

El Nuevo and Rum Runnin were able to stay clear of the Squid but were still able to get on the fish. Blase Barbera and his group of buddies came down to fish on our two larger boats. Alex and Juan were able to catch and release 2 Stripe Marlin with Mr. Barbera and 2 of his buddies. The other (3) anglers fished with Javier and Manuel and were able to catch 4 Yellofin 1 Dorado and catch and release a Stripe Marlin.

Our Marina Manager George said that Squid will eat anything and everything including eachother when roaming around. Although it is a good sign of fish being around the area the squids are chasing them down as well.

Wednesday, January 23rd

We are happy to announce Utopia, the newest addition to the Redrum fleet (54' Hatteras) caught and released her first Stripe Marlin in Cabo this afternoon. Robert and Andrew Schlesier invited Redrum's Ryan Donovan and John Henigan out for a day on the boat. Rum Runnin crew members Javier and Manuel went along as well to check it out and try to put the boys on some fish. They ended the day with a nice Stripe Marlin while only being out for a few hours.

Rum Runnin and Reel Rum stayed in thier slips today so Rene our mechanic could do a little maintenance on them. They are ready to rock tomorrow as they both have charters.

Cesar caught and released 2 Stripe Marlin with the Renford/Keyes share. Our friend Gregorio from Lennys Deli sent his buddies over to us to fish on El Nuevo. They were able to catch and release a Stripe Marlin as well as a Wahoo for dinner.

A quiet and cloudy day in Cabo with not a lot of action in and around town. Days are a little cooler now with a little more cloud coverage.

Utopia Arrives!!

At around 9:00pm last night Redrum owner Ryan Donovan called me to let me know they were heading into the Marina in Cabo San Lucas. The boat is a beauty. The inside, set up for a luxury ride. Couches, full kitchen, flat screen, the whole 9 yards so to say. Don't mistake its beauty though, when it comes to fishing this 54' Hatteras is playing with the big boys. Equipped with the best GPS, Fish Finders, and Penn and Shimano gear this boat is going to make quite an impact down here.

Just thought I would let everyone know Utopia has arrived in one piece and all is well!

Monday, January 21

The anglers, captains and mates on the Redrum boats today all work hard to start the week off great!
ReelRum was the first back to the slip with 2 Stripe Marlin and a Mako Shark all caught and released. Mr. and Mrs Evans had a great time with Omar and Jesus especially as the Mako shark got closer and Jesus was teasing Mrs. Evans about getting it on the boat! We wouldn't do that to you! Luckily the shark cut through the liter before it got too close to the boat!

Tantrum also ended the day with 2 Stripe Marlin with the Brunton party. They were able to land 2 large Stripe Marlin well over 200 pounds, according to Cesar. Great job guys!

Rum Runnin had a great day with Gary Wall from good ol' Dallas, TX. He was able to catch and release 3 Marlin on his day out with Javier and Manuel aka. Mickey!

Mr. Sauve headed out again with us after his first trip earlier this month. He fished on El Nuevo with Alex and Juan. Alex worked hard getting fish to the boat with his changing of lures. Together they were able to catch and release 2 Stripe Marlin!
Attached is a picture of the REDRUM Team at our recent Christmas dinner.
Bottom Row: Javier, Alex and Ramon
Middle Row: Cesar, Jorge, John, Manuel, Americo and Jesus
Back Row: Luis, Ryan, Juan, and Omar
Good Looking group of guys aren't we!!

Weekend Recap

Let me fill you guys in quickly on what happend over the weekend.

Friday we had the Steve Hayward from Texas bring his buddies down for a couple of days of fun and fishing. They took out Rum Runnin and Tantrum on day one and did fairly well. They were able to boat a total of 6 Stripe Marlin, 2 on Tantrum with Cesar and 4 on Rum Runnin with Javier. Mr. and Mrs Nienczyski headed out with Omar on Reel Rum and caught and released a Stripe Marlin while Alex took out Mr. Merrill and his group and brought in a Stripe Marlin as well.

Saturday the fishing continued to be good as Steve took out Reel Rum and bagged a few more Stripe Marlin totalling their count up to 11 for the 2 days. Not bad if you ask me!

Bruce Billings fished with his 2 sons Brody and Jonny. Talk about nice guys with great luck for fishing! On their first day out with Javier and Rum Runnin they caught and released 4 Stripe Marlin and also caught a Dorado.

This leads us to Sunday. On their second day fishing with Javier they wanted something they could take back to the states with them. They got what they were looking for! At around 10:00 a line went of on the boat. My man Brody was the first to grab the screaming rod as more and more line was heading out. Pretty big Marlin they all throught. Little did they know that on the other end of the line was a 150+ lb Yellow-Fin Tuna! Biggest one I have seen since I moved here over a year ago. Jonny reeled in a couple of Stripe Marlin after that and Bruce was able to get his hands tired fighting a Marlin of his own. It was great meeting you guys and best of luck. Good Luck on the wedding Brody.

Mr. Kilpatrick and his wife headed out on El Nuevo with Alex and Juan. They caught and released 3 Stripe Marlin and brought in a few Skip Jack as well. Here is a copy of the email Jeff sent me upon returning to his hotel.

"We had a great time- catching four marlin and three tuna. We had three other marlin hookup and something chewed through my steel leadered bait-I-magic lure! It was brand new and designed for sharks. alex our captain thought it was probably a wahoo or mako. These leaders are designed for large sharks so it something with a mouth of strong teeth! Crew was great and worked very hard the whole day! We will be back in the high seaon when it must be incredible fishing as compared to the amazing fishing today on your 33' bertram."

Jeff kilpatrick

The wonderful Mr. and Mrs. Potts fished with Omar and Jesus on Reel Rum and caught and released for Stripe Marlin on a rough day on the water. They got beat up pretty hard but stuck with it and faught the 4 Marlin to the boat as well as a large Mako shark!

The weather was BEAUTIFUL all weekend in Cabo. Highs around 80, no clouds or wind which made for great fishing confitions!

Thursday, January 17th

With the fish becomming a little more difficult to find at Golden Gate the Redrum crews headed toward Jamie Banks to test their luck there.

The bite did not really turn on until later in the morning for all of our boats. Javier was the first to report on Rum Runnin that he had caught a nice size Dorado at around 10:00am. That was all we heard from him the rest of the day. The Brooke Martin and her husband were in good spirits though as they just arrived in Cabo and had a beautiful day on the water!

Cesar hooked up with a Stripe Marlin on Tantrum while fishing with Mr. Peterson and his pal shortly after Rum Runnin hooked up. He was able to spot another, pitch a live bait right at it and hook him for the 2nd Marlin catch of the day. Mr. Peterson also reeled in a Dorado for a little dinner treat!

El Nuevo and Reel both Nordlund party were able to Catch and Release a pair of nice size Stripe Marlin. Omar and Jesus took out Kip Dupuis and his brother-in-law on Reel Rum and were also able to get them into a pair of Stripe Marlin, one Marlin over 200 pounds according to Omar. The boys never lie about the size of their catch to eachother!!

With the fish moving away from Golden Gate it is going to be interesting to see where they will pop up. Hopefully many of them will start popping up around the Redrum boats.

The New 54' Hatteras sets off from San Diego tomorrow morning and should arrive in Cabo 4-5 days after that. Please keep your fingers crossed that everything goes well and soon we will have a great new addition to the Redrum fleet!

Hot & Cold Day for Redrum

Javier kept Rum Runnin close to the shore line right around the Light House area. Ryan Nelson and his group of 6 were sad when 2:30 came around and they had to come in. The great day had to come to an end after catching and releasing 4 Stripe Marlin, 4 football size Yellow Fin Tuna and a Dorado.

Cesar and Tantrum headed toward the same general area as Rum Runnin and things started off a little slow. Cesar is used to hooking up before any other captain in the Redrum fleet but today he did not get a hook up until aroun 10:30. He was able to end they day catching and releasing 4 Stripe Marlin with Mr. Noto and his buddies.

Colder waters that rushed in from the Northern Pacific slowed fishing down a little today for 2 of the Redrum boats that headed towards Golden Gate. Alex and Juan worked all day to try and find some blue water that would hopefully produce some bait exposure or basking Marlin. Unfortunately they ended the day with no suerte. Reel Rum fished in the same area as El Nuevo and went through the same problem.

The captains are all buzzing about where all the fish have gone and I think we have a better idea for those setting out tomorrow. I'm excited to see how Alex and Omar bounce back from a slow day!

None the less, it was a beautiful day in Cabo and a day out on the water sure beats a day in any office!

Tuesday Fish Report

Tuesday Fish Report:

Tantrum was early getting back as the clients unfortunately were not feeling too well. Anywho they are special clients and we hope they feel better soon. Rum Runnin took out Mr. Larry Larson who is really good friends of local buddy Isreal. You guys should check out his restaurant if you are in town, Misiones De Kino. We think it is the best around! Mr. Larson caught and released a Marlin with Javier and Manuel as well as a Dorado. I'm pretty sure he is sitting at Misiones with Israel right now enjoying the freshly prepared fish.

Ramon and Juan were the crew on El Nuevo today and they were able to help Mr. Ed Burchel and his gang catch and release 3 Stripe Marlin while Omar and Jesus worked their tails off to get Mr. Perry Henderson and his friends hooked into 4 Stripe Marlin.

The Marlin bite is still very consistant on the Pacific Side as there is still plenty of bait around. The weather is getting cooler and cooler during the nights and early mornings but once the sun comes up it is perfect conditions for hanging out, reeling in fish on a Redrum boat!

I just got back from dropping off Redrum owner, Ryan Donovan and his fiance at the airport. They will be flying into San Diego tonight and hopping onto our new 54' Hatteras later this week to start their journey by water down to Cabo. I will have minimal contact with him but I know they are going to be doing some fishing along the way. I will keep everyone posted on their cool journey back to Baja. We hope that they stay safe and have a blast! Please keep them in your thoughts!!

Saludos,

Luis

2 day Update

Excuse the delay folks. With all the fish being caught and playoff football kicking off I rarely found myself behind the computer the last couple of days.

Monday Report:

We sent all four boats out on Monday. The big boats, El Nuevo and Rum Runnin were rented out b y Mr. Johnson and his group. Alex and Juan were got into a mess of bait balls and Marlin early and finished their day with 6 Stripe Marlin and a Dorado. Javier and Manuel had the rest of the gang as anglers on Rum Runnin. They were lucky enought to pull up a nice size Marlin during a high speed troll out to the Golden Gate. Also the group was able to tag and release 4 Stripe Marlin.

Tantrum had another excellent day catching and releasing 6 Stripe Marlin while Omar and Jesus brought in 3 Stripe Marlin.

Sunday Report:

Tantrum was the only boat to head out with a very special client. Chris Yeland of California read this blog on Friday afternoon (Tantrum had caught 13 Stripe Marlin). He made one phone call Redrum owner, John Donovan and basically told him "I'm on the internet, I just read the fish report and I want to fish with Cesar". John explained to him he could be on the boat as soon as Sunday if he can pull it off. "I'm calling the airlines and will be there Saturday afternoon". We met Chris on Sunday morning and kept our fingers crossed all day that he would do well. Sure enough by 2:30 Tantrum came back to her slip with 10 Stripe Marlin caught and released. "We could have caught more if we would have had more bait" Chris explained to me!! That is probably the coolest story of '08. If you think you can beat it call the office and let's get you out fishing!!

Saturday, January 12th

Although it was no record day on any of the boats today a good time was had by all anglers. Randy Shultz and his buddy were worn out from yesterdays 13 Marlin but still came in bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning. Cesar took the day off so Rene took out Tantrum with them. Of course Rene headed out towards Golden Gate where Cesar was yesterday and although they were not able to reel in 13 Striped Marlin they still were able to get 5 to the boat and a pair of Dorado.

Mr. and Mrs. Runnels took out Reel Rum for a full day of fishing. Ramon and Omar hooked them into a Stripe Marlin right off the bat- maybe 8:30, if not before Omar said. The fight was a long one and the Big Striper wasn't to the boat until after 9:00am. The day seemed full of action but the boys could not get the fish to take bait. Bait ball after bait ball, they were chasing Marlin all day. Finally at around 1:00 o'clock they were able to hook into another Stripe Marlin, this one even bigger than the first one. Once to the boat Mr. Runnels told me that it hung over on both sides of the boat. They headed in shortly after and were back to the slip by 2:00pm.

While down on some business Nate Ingwerson thought he would squeeze in a day of fishing. He came to Redrum to help him out and we were able to get him out on El Nuevo. He had meetings until 8:30 and was not able to get to the boat until almost 9:00am but Alex put the pedal to the metal and got to Golden as fast as he could. Nate and his buddy ended up with 2 nice sized Dorado and were nice enough to leave some for the Redrum office for Dinner! Thanks Nate and it was nice meeting you.

Javier and Manuel took the day to clean and wax the boat also changing out the line and hooks. Rum Runnin is looking brand new and ready to catch fish!

Anyone intereseted??? Let us know.

Record Setting Day!!

WOW!! The Marlin bite was very hot today as 2 of Redrum boats set new Records for 2008. Mr. Schultz and his 2 buddies fished on Tantrum and Cesar was able to hook them into 13 Stripe Marlin!! Tantrum's previous record was 8. We know it's very early in the year but it looks like it's going to be one heck of a year for that boat. Mr. Schultz said they could have caught 20 Marlin if it wasn't for 7 of them getting off the lines. The 13 Stripe Marlin ranged from 130-200 pounds. What a great day!

Mr. Anderson saved his best trip for his last! On his last day of fishing with Redrum he and his buddies were able to catch and relase 10 Stripe Marlin! From double to triple hook ups the boys stayed pretty busy all day! They want to give all the credit to the crew as Alex and Juan worked very hard all day long!

Javier and Manuel also had a good day but stopped a little early. Rum Runnin was back to the dock by 11:30 with 4 Stripe Marlin caught and released and a Dorado.

Mr. Andy Frafard headed out with his daughter and her buddies for a day of fishing on Reel Rum. Omar took good care of them and landed 4 Stripe Marlin for them. His daughter Danny was able to Reel in a Stripe Marlin that measured 108 inches and almost 200 lbs! Her new replica is going to look great in their home in Mass.

If the fishing continues to be this good expect more REDRUM Records to be broken in '08.

Saludos!!

Wednesday, January 9th

Rum Runnin' was the first boat back to the slips today. Two of Mike Andersons buddies from his group of 5 were able to land 2 Stripe Marlin and 1 Dorado by 12:30. The other 3 incuding Mr. Anderson fished with Alex on El Nuevo again today. They were able to Catch and Release 3 Stripe Marlin and hunted 3 Dorado to take home for a nice dinner.

Although Reel Rum and crew didn't see another Swordfish today, they still had a great day on the water. When it was all said and done Timothy Andres and his buddies had caught 3 nice size Dorado.

Would it shock you if I told you Cesar caught the most fish today?? I didn't think so! We are happy to say that Cesar was able to catch and relase 6 Stripe Marlin today. Tantrum took the Taormina family out for a day of fishing. She headed towards Golden Gate and being one of the quickest boats around was hooked into a nice Stripe a little after 7:00am. The action did not stop until the 6th was caught right before 2:00pm. Talk about a day filled with action!!

The temperature looks like it may get a little chilly tonight, as there is some cold air that blew in late this afternoon. The fishing should continue to be good as the cold air will not be around long enought to effect the water on the Pacific Side..... let's hope!
I hate the cold!!

January 8th, 2008

Mr. Garamendi and his party 0f 7 headed out with Alex for a long day on the water. Although they were only able to boat 1 Stripe Marlin they spotted "at least 40" said Juan. All the anglers agreed that it was not because of lack of effort that they did not grab more as the boys did everything they could and tried new ways all day long. It's fishing! El Nuevo will head out tomorrow in search for the hungry Marlin!!

Reel Rum spotted a 300 plus pound Swordfish basking in the water and tossed bait for 20 minutes but to no avail. That has been the first Swordfish spotted this year and it is a great sign of good fishing to follow. Omar and Jesus were able to hook the Sauve into a Marlin for a catch and release as well as a Dorado for dinner.

Javier and Manuel headed out for a short day with the Thorley party. The Thorleys came in on the Royal Caribbean cruise line and we able to fish 4 quick hours with us. In the 4 hours they fished Mr. Thorley was able to hook a Stripe Marlin and a Dorado. Mr. Thorley thought the Marlin would look great in his house so he decided to get a fiberglass replica made to forever keep the memory!

With all the boats heading out tomorrow we hope to keep the fish count rising for 2008!!

Monday Afternoon Recap

Buenos Dias!! Couldn't get around to filling everyone in on the yesterdays action so before I start my day in the Redrum office here it goes...:

Yet again Cesar returned back from fishing with outriggers full of flags flying high. Before the day was over Tantrum with angler Jeff Stedman was able to catch and release 6 Stripe Marlin. What made it special was he showed up from a cruise ship at 8:00am and had all 6 Marlin released by 1:00 pm!

Our buddy from the Make-A-Wish Foundation Dave Pirie came down with his wife for a couple days of fishing. On their second day out they headed out on Reel Rum with thier favorite Captain Omar. They had a great day fishing catching and releasing a Stripe Marlin, boating 3 Dorado and a Wahoo.

Mike Anderson brought his group of buddies down for a few days of fishing with Redrum. Yesterday was their first day aboar Rum Runnin and El Nuevo. The group on Rum Runnin returned back with 2 Stripe Marlin as well as a couple of Dorado. El Nuevo, the boat Mike was on boated 3 Stripe Marlin and a Dorado for dinner. They will be at it again tomorrow and Friday so keep yourselves posted to see how they do.

El Nuevo and Reel Rum headed out this morning while Rum Runnin will head out at 10:30 for a half-day. Cesar and Americo are taking their day with no charter to fine tune all the equipment on the boat and give Tantrum a shine.

It looks like it's going to be another beautiful day in Cabo. Todays high looks like it's going to be around 80 degrees, no clouds, and little to no wind. In other words, a perfect day to fish!

January 6th Mid-Day Report

Just got off the phone with the guys out on El Nuevo. Ryan and Brooke headed out with our local buddy Marshall and his Dad who is visiting for a couple of weeks. The four of them headed out for a day of fishing with Alex and Juan. By 11:00am they had already caught 4 Dorado, 3 Tuna, and a Marlin. Seems like they are having a great time!! Ryan told me they found a school of Porpoise about 11 miles off shore and trolled in and out of the school with small hoochies. He also told me Brooke hooked into a nice one estimated about 50 pounds!! Nice Job senorita!

Tantrum is also out but I have not heard anything back from them. If they are having a day like El Nuevo I'm sure everyone aboard is busy!! I will keep you posted.

Yesterdays outcomes:

El Nuevo headed out with the Olsen family and caught and relased 6 Stripe Marlin during their full day with Alex. Daniel chartered Rum Runnin for the day and came back with 4 Stipe Marlin caught. Local buddy April Bonds headed out on Reel Rum with her friends and they also caught and released 4 Stripe Marlin with Andrew and his family. His family had a great day catching and releasing 3 Stripe Marlin as well as a Sailfish. That makes Cesar the first Redrum captain to pull up a Sail in 2008! Leave it to Cesar!

Stay tuned for updates on the rest of the day.

Big Marlin Today...

Well we didn't have anyone with double digit Marlin catches, so I guess fishing has come back to earth. But, we did have some really nice size Marlin brought in today. Cesar and Rene fished with Andy Miller and his son and they caught and released two Marlin, one estimated at 190lbs. Another father and son duo was the Fulton party aboard Rum Runnin'. They also brought in two nice size Marlin, a Dorado, and a few Red Snapper as well. All smiles from the Fulton's. Matt Rudolph and his buddies fished on El Nuevo and had a great day. 3 Marlin and 1 Dorado were caught. Matt had a really nice Striped Marlin estimated at 200lbs. He decided a replica of the fish would look great in his lake house and had to have a trophy. Realizing the fish may not fit, he called the builder and had the specs in the house changed. Now that is cool! The Hale family, last but not least, fished with red hot Captain Omar. They caught and released a Marlin, and boated a Tuna and two Dorado. Someone from the family got a little seasick, but we won't mention her here. The last thing we would want to do would be to embarrass their teenage daughter!! She got big props from everyone at RedRum for hanging in there though.

New Year Update!!

The final two days of the year proved to be very successful for RedRum anglers. Tuna, Dorado, Mako Shark and of course, Marlin were all brought to the boats in big numbers. Fishing has been hot at the Lighthouse on the Pacific side, so clients are getting bites 20 minutes after they board the boats. ReelRum has stayed hot, bringing in another 5 Marlin on the final day of the year.
RedRum employees and father and son George and Cesar Matzunaga took TantRum out on the first day of the year and released 5 Marlin in 3 hours! Nice way to spend your day off fellas.
