Wednesday Febuary 27th

If Yellowfin Tuna is what you are looking for while fishing in Cabo youre chances are you are going to fill the boat up pretty quickly.

I sent out one of our partner boats Solmar VII with Mr. Dale Bangma and his wife. They were back by 1:00pm with 10 keeper Yellowfin Tuna from 20-50 lbs. in weight!! They also released 9 of the smaller ones!! They were also lucky enough to catch two, 30 pound Doraod! Needless to say they had a great time, caught meat for a fabulous dinner, and enough fish to take home and enjoy for weeks.

Cesar went on the hunt for Stripe Marlin- his specialty! Matt Chappelle and his buddy had an excellent time fishing on Tantrum. Cesar loves to Marlin fish and knew exactly where he would find the hungry ones!!

The Livingston party headed out on El Nuevo in search for Stripe Marlin. They were able to spot and raise 6 Stripe Marlin but unfortunately could not get any of them to stay on the bait long enought to get hooked. They are heading out for day 2 in search for Tuna, I'm sure they will have better luck!

Javier took our Frank Arpan and his group of buddies out on Rum Runnin. After a long day running and gunning at fish he finally hooked into a nice Stripe Marlin. The Marlin measured a littlve over 90 inches in length and well over 100 pounds! Great catch, enjoy the trophy!!

Still working hard everyday to land fish for our clients. Lot's of fish being spotted on the Golden Gate, getting them to bite is proving to be a challenge. Like I said the boys are working their tails off!

Nick Majsa, I know you're reading this report! Get ready for the work out of your life! The fish are calling your name buddy. See you soon!

Adios,

Luis

Friday, Febuary 22nd

Once again, I apologize for the delay. A full moon that stuck around Baja for what seemed like forever slowed the fishing down earlier in the week but it seems like all is back to normal now. The fished have seemed to have moved from Golden Gate to now West of San Jaime.

El Nuevo had a good day back in action catching and releasing 2 Stripe Marlin as well as a nice Wahoo for dinner. The Wallace group got a little bit of a late start after leaving behind one of their buddies and having to return to the dock! They had a great time fishing with Juan and Alex.

Cesar was able to bring a Marlin to the boat with the Berthold party. It was the first Marlin Tantrum was able to hook in 3 days as conditions have reduced the appetite of the Marlin during the fishing hours. With a full moon fish tend to eat throughout the night which gives them no reason to feed during the day.

Omar and Jesus stuck inshore and caught heaps of Sierra as well as Yellowfin Tuna. In shore fishing is one of Captain Omars specialties, he knows exactly how to handle ReelRum with the in shore conditions and is very successful.

Rum Runnin was still trying to get back into the swing of things spotting many Marlin with the Stillwell party but comming up a little short at the end of the day.

We are betting on the fish count to continue to increase as the full moon has reduced in size and conditions are getting better daily.

Saturday & Sunday Report

Saturday Report

The crews on Redrum boats have been working their tails of lately for our anglers. There is no shortage in fish in the area, getting them to bite has been tricky the last couple of days due to a massive full moon Thursday night.

Mr. Griffit headed out with Cesar in look for Tuna. The group headed directly out from the Arch. Once they got to the 1150 fishing grounds the lines were dropped. Tantrum ended the day with 4 YellowFin Tuna.

Jim Collings fished with Omar and Jesus on Reel Rum and landed a heap of Sierra as well as 2 YellowFin Tuna.

Ramon and Juan took El Nuevo out and ended the day with a few yellow tail and a Stripe Marlin.

Our good pal Dave Pirie came to town via cruise ship and had to get out fishing. he and Javier headed out and in the few hours they were out hooked into 4 Stripe Marlin! Jesus and Mannuel worked their tails off to catch and release 4 Stripe Marlin. Javier ran chased Marlin all day while Manuel stayed below pitching bait to the fish. This "run and gun" method paid off as they were the hot boat of the day.

We had a special day on Utopia with the Lowe family. Matthew Lowe has got to have some of the best eyes for spotting fish I have seen in a while. He was spotting Marlin before Captain Rene would spot them. He was very excited to have caught his first Stripe Marlin ever. The fight took over half an hour and the powerful Marlin came up to the boat twice before making his last runs. Once we got him to the boat we measured the fish.... 102" and a little over 200 pounds!! Not bad for his first Stripe. Congrats and keep up the great fishing, you've got talent! Mr. Lowe also hooked into a very nice Stripe Marlin, just as big as Matts. After getting this angry fish to liter 3 seperate times the Marlin would not give up. The 4th time to the boat with the liter the line was cut and the fish was gone! Great fight! Matts little brother Johnny was on dinner duty and did a fabulous job catching 7 Sierra, each weighing at least 15-20 pounds in under 20 minutes! He was even nice enough to share his ceviche with us shortly after it was caught! Great job my friend. I'm pretty sure Jessica got in on some action as well but we all know she had a very busy day!

Sunday Report

Shawn and Lucinda Smith joined us for their second day on the water. After having a Marlin straghten a hook on his first trip - yes the fish was so big it literally straightend the hook- they were at it again with Omar and Jesus. Jesus was able to hook him into a monster 101" Stripe. It was a beautiful catch and couldn't have happend to a nice guy. Enjoy the fish in your Houston home my friend. Think of us every now and than... see you on the Coast! Below I have quoted Shawn on his day out with Redrum:

"On our 1 year anniversary we went on the best trip ever. Jesus and Omar must have thrown bait at 35 Marlin in the 8 hours that we were out. They claimed they had not seen a day like that in years. The accuracy and knowledge Jesus has for fishing is out of this world!! I thought I had seen it all when the last Marlin straightened my hook. I guess not!! This was the most amazing trip we have had in our lives!"

Our friend Pat Labeau and his son headed out with Cesar. Other than having a great time out on Tantrum with Americo and Cesar they caught and released 2 Stripe Marlin and a Mako Shark they will be enjoying for dinner!

Rum Runnin also pulled in a Stripe Marlin to end their day with the Suggs party.

2 day Redrum Report

Well, it's great to be back in beautiful, warm, and sunny Cabo San Lucas. We had a great time at the Atlantic City Boat Show and wanted to thank everyone who stopped by and chatted with us. Keep sending in those emails! We look foward to seeing folks at our California shows later next month.

Strong morning winds made some anglers a little nervous before heading out this morning. The wind continued throughout the day and could have played a factor on a slower day for Redrum and her anglers.

Todays catch:
El Nuevo had a slow day today raising and hooking one Stripe Marlin. After a 20 minute fight with the fish he spit the hook. Hate it when that happens.

Rum Runnin was able to catch and release a Stripe Marlin late in the afternoon with the Belka party. They convinced Javier and Ramon to let them keep the fish and will be enjoying some good dinner tonight.

Reel Rum headed out late this morning for a half-day and caught and released 2 Stripe Marlin before heading back in. The Bendall party were all business and we were happy that Omar and Jesus took care of them.

Tantrum pulled in a couple of hours ago. Cesar was able to hook Mr. Bates into another Stripe Marlin, totaling 7 for during his 3 recent Redrum outings. A small Mako shark was aslo caught on Tantrum today as well.

Utopia pulled out around 9 o'clock this morning with the Dera party from New Jersey. By 11 they had already caught and relased 2 Stripe Marlin. They were going to continue looking to try to come back as the #1 Redrum boat of the day! Captain Rene and Manuel are working hard on the boat to put them on as many fish as possible.

Yesterdays Bag:

El Nuevo led the fleet by catching and releasing 3 Stripe Marlin. Rum Runnin stuck around the Marina today so Javier and Manuel had a chance to touch-up the boat. Tantrum caught and relased 2 Stripe Marlin while Omar and Jesus released a 9 1/2 Stripe Marlin on Reel Rum.

Marlin Marlin and Mako

The boys headed up to Golden Gate yesterday and the bite was just not that strong. All the boats came back with Marlin. ReelRum had 2 Marlin, El Nuevo had a Marlin and a nice Mako, and the rest of the boys had only one Marlin. Slow day by our standards, but a good day nonetheless.

Early reports for today are good.

Yesterday's report.

While it had been almost two months without any real good Dorado catches, Omar and Jesus caught 4 yesterday for the Nibbe party. They also caught and released a Marlin. The Bauman's wanted to head and "catch fish" so the boys on Rum Runnin suggested some inshore fishing as they only had a half day. Sierra, Bonita and some nice Yellowtail were grabbed. Cesar and Tantrum found the Tuna again taking 4 nice Yellowfin and releasing 2 Marlin. Alex and El Nuevo continued their hot streak catching 4 Marlin.

Inshore Bite and Tuna

Inshore bite is back!! Tantrum headed out with Mr. Emerson of Cabo 4 Sale for a half day of inshore fishing and they wacked them pretty good. 4 Yellowtail, 3 Sierra and some Bonita were quickly caught. Enjoy dinner pal. Rum Runnin had a half day as well, but the Bauman party wanted some big offshore stuff and the bite is happening a little later out at the banks. Alex took the Stockburger crew out for another day aboard El Nuevo. Today was the same as yesterday, 3 Marlin for the guys. Omar took the Bachman's out on ReelRum and they wanted something for the dinner table. They were lucky enough to find 4 nice size Yellowfin. A very good day for Redrum anglers.

Swordfish??

Rene and Slim took out Kent Somner and his children aboard Utopia today and almost made the catch of the year. Kent had Utopia out for a Sunset Cruise last night and he mentioned that today he wanted to fish for something he could put on the dinner table. Since we haven't seen a Dorado in sometime, Tuna was what we were after. The boys headed out and hooked up on 4 nice yellowfin before they decided to stop biting. Later in the day, the boys spotted a Swordy on the surface. They tossed a live bait and actually hooked up to a swordfish!! You will have to excuse our enthusiasm but it is highly irregular to even hear or see a swordfish. The 200lb leader however was no match and the beast was off the line in a matter of minutes. Good stuff though.

Marlin are biting today

Alex and El Nuevo are back early with 2 striped Marlin, catch and release.

Cesar also has caught and released 2, so far.

Atlantic City Boat and Tackle Show

If you are around Atlantic City this week or weekend, stop by the RedRum Sportfishing booth and say hello.

John and Luis are busy at work, so they say. I think the booth is unattended and they are playing Craps in the casino!!

Sorry Sorry

Sorry folks, I know it has been a while. Luis is off in Atlantic City at a tradeshow with John Donovan and I didn't have the first clue how to post here.

Fishing was slow the last week in January, full moon wreaked havoc. There were a few Marlin coming in, but for the most part slow.

Late last week though things started to pick up as we saw more and more Marlin coming in every day. Haven't seen a Dorado in a while, but still seeing an occasional Wahoo. Tuna have been found every few days by boats heading straight out of the marina. A partner boat yesterday caught 8, after finding a school about 22 miles straight off Cabo. Sierra have showed up as well. Another partner boat went out and caught a ton of Sierra yesterday. A good inshore bite is always fun.

Yesterday, Javier led the charge with 4 Marlin.
