Fish Report August 30th

Slight overcast leads to great day of fishing for the Redrum Fleet!!

With dark clouds spread across the skies of Cabo we had some pretty weary clients in the morning during check in. This didn't stop our boys from fishing hard and getting into a mess of fish!

Alex and Juan had another great day with the Rutherford group today. The group landed a Sailfish early in the morning, sat through a light storm for a couple of hours, and managed to come back and land 3 Stripe Marlin and a 40+ pound Dorado. They were able to release all of the Marlin and kept the Dorado for dinner! You guys were quite the treat and are welcome back anytime!!! Hopefully sooner than later!

Dean Brown and his group headed out today on Red Beam and Rum Runnin and managed to catch heaps of Dorado again!

Cesar had a killer day with Larry Friesenhaun from Jourdanton, TX today on Tantrtum. Larry fished solo today and managed to catch a 96" Stripe Marlin, a 105" Sailfish and a 45 pound Dorado. He was very content with his day and as an owner of a 54' Viking himself, was very impressed with the way Cesar and Ramon fished. Great job Larry.

Jaqueline and Marc Dondero caught and released a Stripe Marlin. Omar and Jesus were also able to hook a Dorado for dinner.

Great job to everyone who fished with Redrum today!!

GO FROGS!!

Big Dorado Day!

Well, the fishing has stayed very consistent since the storm rolled through this past weekend and today was no fluke. The boys found fish between the Lighthouse and Los Arcos, a few miles off shore.

We'll start off with Dean Brown's group. Dean and his buddies are good friends of the RedRum family that come to fish with us each year. For one reason or another, Dean had to back out of the trip this year, but his buddies picked up the slack. They fished with TantRum and ReelRum today an brought in a combined 7 Dorado, and 1 Marlin.

Next was the Rutherford group from Houston. They are staying at the Portofino condos and fishing aboard El Nuevo. After a few follies actually getting to and settling in the condos last night, they had a great day today. Mrs. Sandra Rutherford has dreamed of bringing in a Marlin for a while now and all it took was a quick trip to Cabo. The rest of her party caught Dorado, one each for a total of 4.

Shane Smith brought a small group down as well, and today was the first of two days fishing for these guys. The first boat, Red Beam, caught 3 Dorado and a Sailfish. The second boat Rum Runnin' caught 4 Dorado. Great job guys, enjoy those filets.

Finally, our good friend Traun over at Cabo Ticket, took out a few of his friends from Tasmania. Luis got a day off from the office as well as he joined their party. They fished hard and caught 5 Dorado, one that was over 60 inches. Good stuff fellas.

Tuna, Dorado, and Sails!

What a great day to fish Cabo! The Port reopened today after being closed for 2 days after a small storm rolled into Cabo Saturday night. It proved to help out the fishing as it was an awesome day for Yellowfin Tuna, Dorado, and Sailfish.

El Nuevo led the day with 16 Yellowfin Tuna caught, 6 were released and Kenneth Yates and his family ended their day with 10 40+ pound Yellowfin Tuna. Not forgetting the 4 Dorado they caught as well. The group still has 3 more days with us on the water and will be targeting Billfish the rest of the time as thier ice chests were filled with one day out with Ramon and Slim! Great job guys!

Tantrum also had a great day catching 7 Yellowfin Tuna and 3 Dorado. Travis Tuberg was battling thelack of sleep that Cabo will impose on you this morning but mustard up the strength to get those fish to the boat and in the freezer! Great job buddy!

I was lucky to head out fishing myself today along with John and Ryan Donovan. We figured we should at least be able to get some fishing in ourselves! Omar took us out on Reel Rum along with Rene. We were only able to fish a couple of hours but during the time we were out we landed a huge school of Sailfish and had a quadruple hook up! I have never really seen anything like it and it was awesome to be a part of it!

Let's hope the fishing stays this good for all those Redrum anglers making their way down here in September!!

Saludos,

Luis

End of the month Report

Hey RedRummer's!! Sorry for the delay with the reports. Things got kind of slow on us after the first week of August but boy are they realy picking up now.

This past week was a great week for fishing if you like Dorado! Each Redrum boat that heads out seems to be bringing back at least 4 nice Dorado a trip. On top of that we are continuing to see Stripe Marlin and Sailfish all over.

We battled through a full moon that didn't seem to phase us too much. The Billfish bite slowed up a little bit but the Yellowfin Tuna and Dorado bite replaced any down time on the boat! Yesterday there was a monster 71" Bull Dorado caught on El Nuevo. Slim says that he thinks it might be the biggest one he has ever caught. Alex thinks it's the biggest El Nuevo has ever brought in!!

There has been some major cloud coverage the past few days and we sat through quite a storm early yesterday afternoon. The cloud coverage has kept the fish hungry and we hope they continue to stay hungry for us.

We are excited about what the final quarter of the year is going to bring us. September through December is generally our "peak season" and if it has played out like the first 75% of the year we are going to be in excellent shape. We are expecting monster Bull Dorados, lots of Yellowfin Tuna and the big Billfish to finish off the year.

If you aren't set up yet you better look into Comming down and help us meet our expectations!!

Check for the end of the day report a little later in the afternoon. Tantrum and ReelRum are out right now trying to track down the big ones!

Saludos,

Luis

August 5th Fish Report

Yesterday Alex walked away the Captain of the Day. Today the award goes to Javier on Rum Runnin. El Nuevo and Reel Rum also headed out today but could not get into the same groove as Rum Runnin.

Terry Peckham and his children (3) headed out with Javier and Ramon today. They started their day off hooking into, and releasing a Stripe Marlin. Terry told me when he got back "that fish put on a great show for us, jumping out of the water over 15 time, it must have been a young one"!! Later during the trip Ramon hooked into another Stripe Marlin for a catch and release. The catch of the day happend as the last figh was hooked. "We knew it was something big when we didn't see it come up for a while", Terry said. Javier later told me in my office "the fish never really jumped but we knew it was hooked good". Finally, after an hour and a half of fighting the fish the Blue Marlin was spotted near the boat. A few minutes later Ramon had a hold of it. The fish measured 114" and weighed 275 pounds! Mr. Peckham's got some pretty impressive kids, all excellent anglers! Great job guys!

August 4th Fish Report

El Nuevo Redrum had luck on her side today as many boats around the marina came back empty handed. Alex ran 30 miles to get to his "honey hole" where he was able to catch and release 2 Stripe Marlin. One of the Marlin put in a good fight lasting almost an hour. They also caught 2 Dorado. One of the Dorado, over 60 pounds got off right before Slim could gaff it. It had been false hooked near the eye and never hooked correctly.

Red Beam had a Sailfish strike but couldn't keep the fish on. Javier and Rum Runnin had 3 Sailfish get off as well. The boat was also able to raise 2 Stripe Marlin but Americo couldn't get them take the bait.

Utopia, El Nuevo, Rum Runnin and Reel Rum are on deck to head out tomorrow with hopefully a little more luck than today. They may have to buy Alex dinner to find out where he fished today!

A very Happy Birthday to Redrum angler from South Texas, Tommy Vela. We'll make sure to have a tequila for you at RIPs tonight!!

August 3rd Fish Report

A rain and lightning storm rolled into Cabo late yesterday afternoon that lasted into the late evening. I had doubts that the boats would even be able to head out this morning. It's a good thing they did because the fish were biting!

Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) member Thomas Lacy from Fort Worth, TX brought some of his buddies down to fish with Redrum for a couple of days. Their first day was with Slim and Alex on El Nuevo. They landed a nice Stripe Marlin to start the day and raised a couple of Sailfish later in the afternoon.

Javier came back from a shutout day yesterday to catching and releasing 2 Pacific Sails and catching a nice Dorado for dinner. Mr. Saxton and his group had an excellent time on Rum Runnin.

Ramon took out Tantrum today with Terry Peckham and his buddy. They had a good time catching and releasing a Stripe Marlin.

It seems like the storm is far gone now as it's all clear and sunny skies again in Cabo. It's been a real pleasure having the Sailfish around as long as they have been. We have seen some with good size too and more than we have in years. That's a good sign of our anglers practicing their catch and release. We applaud you guys for that!

Comments are now welcome on the Fish Report so feel free to send a short write up about your experience, ask a question, or just drop a quick hello!

Cheers,

Luis!

August 2nd Fish Report

Juan aka Slim and Ramon led the Redrum fleet today on Redrum. As Alex took his day off, Ramon took over at the wheel. Slim was able to hook the Stringer party into 3 Sailfish as well as a Stripe Marlin all for the release. The group also caught a nice Dorado!

Rum Runnin couldn't get any luck on her side today. 2 Sailfish were spotted and approached but they couldn't get anything to bite. The Medina party from McAllen will have another go at it tomorrow on Red Beam.

Reel Rum trolled all day without much luck. They caught a Dorado early in the morning but that was all of the action they saw until Cesar, on his way down to get ready to head in spotted a Marlin. After casting 3 casts at it to no strike, he reeled in the rig and changed his bait out to a larger one. SURE ENOUGH!!! 30 minutes later, Mr. Conlin had his Stripe Marlin to the boat! 108" and 172 pounds of solid fish!!

Great job to all Redrum anglers!!

Let's hope it doesn't rain as some clouds seem to be moving in!!

August 1st Fish Report

Marc Brundige and the Linear Architecture Group from all over the nation had a great day fishing with the Redrum fleet.

Alex and Juan led the pack helping out 1/4 of the LAG with 3 Catch and Release Sailfish and a nice Bull Dorado as well. Omar lead another 1/4 of the group to a catch and release a Stripe Marlin on Reel Rum. The fish fought so hard at one point Omar thought it might have been a small Blue Marlin! Cesar headed out and spotted several Sails on top of the water but for some reason he could not get them to bite. He was fortunate enough to catch a large Bull Dorado with his group. Rum Runnin also landed a nice Sailfish.

Mr. and Mrs. Noone from McAllen, TX came in and fished a half-day with Mickey and Tili on Red Beam. I had told them they had a better chance of catching Billfish if they went out on a full day. They were confident that they would do alright, and they did just fine. Before their 5 hour trip was up they had caught and released 2 very nice Sailfish. Great job guys!! Good seeing you again.

As you can see we are catching and releasing multiple Sailfish in the area. With the water as warm as it is, the Sailfish come in and feed. It is a short Sailfish season but we are always very excited when we get them down here. They are such a beautiful fish to watch.

Tight Lines!!

End of July Report

The second half of July was a solid one for Redrum and their anglers. We were fortunate enough to see some warm water come in close as it gave the crews a chance to make a little bit longer of a run but still able to get to the fish.

Marlin and Dorado were pretty consistant on the Sea or Cortez side, one day Cesar ran almost to Los Barriles to find fish. When you're that determined you're bound to do alright. August looks like a lot busier months for Redrum and their boats, we are excited about the "busy" season as all the boats are in tip-top shape and ready for the big fish!!
