Only 5 Marlin today?

That's right, only 5.

Rum Runnin went out for a half a day charter with Barry Halpern and his crew. We told Barry that 1/2 a day wasn't really enough time to get up to Golden Gate and back and that he would need to fish closer to Cabo. They acutally saw a bunch of Marlin out in front of the Arch 5-8 miles, but none were hungry. That's fishing guys, make sure to schedule enough time for a full day next year.

Our other party was Berna Vetter and her crew from BrrrBismark, North Dakota. I am sure the 80 degree weather in Cabo was a nice change for the Vetter's. And the 5 Striped Marlin they caught wasn't too shabby either. Omar and Americo continued their hot hand and made for a great day on the Golden Gate Bank.

FYI, American Airlines has $75 one way flights to and from Cabo and LAX if you book by the 10th of March. That being said, if you need a quick getaway and catching a bunch of Marlin seems like a perfect fit, come down and see us next weekend. Other great fares from major hubs around the country can be found as well.

Hasta Luego,
Ryan

Looks like it did at the end of December on the Gate

Filthy amounts of Marlin chasing bait on the surface all day at Golden Gate. Sharks, Sea Lions, Porpoises, Whales and Marlin all competing for the same tasty little green-back Mackeral's.

Sent two boats out today, first up was the Scully's from Northern California. The group, comprised of 2 couples had a great day on the water. Beautiful seas and 80 degrees makes for a fun day on the water, add all the marine life to the mix and you can't beat it. The Scully's were interested in Dorado primarily, and spent the first few hours trolling without any luck. When they heard the news about boats and the action at the Gate, they decided to head out there. The ladies beat the guys out there edging them 2-1 on Catch and Release Marlin. They missed a few more and lost a shark as well. Great meeting you guys, come back and see us.

The other crew was the Luminais CCA group from Louisiana. These guys had a phenominal day out at the Gate with Alex and Cesar. 12 Catch and Release Marlin and 3 other missed opportunities. The guys were absolutely amazed at the amount of fish here in Cabo and pledged to make it back down soon. It will be tough to live up to 12 Marlin, but memories of today will keep you guys coming back time and time again.

"The Marlin are Boiling Out There!"

Another warm day in Feb down in Cabo. Completely clear skies and sweaty bodies coming off the boats, mostly from the sun but also from some intense waters boiling with striped marlin and hard work to reel them in.

It was a day of lots of testosterone on the RedRum office, lots of groups of guys down for a good time ole time fishing in Cabo.

Jeremy and pal Randy from Kentucky had one request on the boat, to be able to fly their Kentucky flag. That wasn’t the only flag they had flying aboard ReelRum today. They had 6 marlin flags, 6 release flags and 3 mako sharks that made it to the boat for pictures. This pair was full smiles and fully exhausted after working on reeling those catches in. Nice to meet you two, and we look forward to seeing the pictures!

Andy, Thomas and Steve getting out of the cold in New York couldn’t really complain about the 90 degree weather sweeping through the Baja right now. Considering everyone back east would trade them any day to be on the water instead of scrapping snow and ice! They headed out on RumRunnin with Chivo and Manuel to Golden Gate where they said the water was boiling with marlin. They caught 3 catch and release striped marlin and 2 dorado. The 3 of them will be feasting on their catch at Misiones de Kino this evening.

Joe T, who has been fishing with RedRum for years, came down with Mark, Raymon and Eric from Michigan and Nevada. They are all very familiar with the waters in Baja and couldn’t believe how crazy the marlin were swirling at the surface today. They said they didn’t even have to troll, just threw live bait and in they came. They had 10 total stripers hooked up, but only 8 of them made it to the boat, catching a releasing all of them of course. This crew heads out again in March, so we’ll see you guys back in a few days!

The DeBaca’s coming down from California who have fished the waters of Cabo many times, usually with Picante. They were looking for something different and with all of our RedRum boats booked up I showed them the shining 31’ Shamrock called Grey Light, one of our partner boats. With a great crew on board, Ulisses and Francisco they had a wonderful day out at Golden Gate. It’s no surprise that they too caught marlin, 5 stripers to be exact. We hope to see you guys back again fishing with RedRum.

And to all of you up there that are freezing in the states, don’t forget about the affordable Stay & Play Packages offered by RedRum. Come down for a long weekend and bunk up in one of our 2, 3 bedroom condos, for comfort, convenience and fun all wrapped into one with fishing and lodging. Check out the link on our website for pricing under Stay & Play at Portofino Condos.

For those of you in the Southern California, stop by the Fred Hall Boat Show in Long Beach from March 4th – 8th. John and myself will be up there to tell you all about RedRum Sportfishing face to face. Hope to see you there!

Thanks, Brooke

Feb. 25th

The sun is out in Cabo and it is HOT! The temperatures have risen the last few days and is sitting at about 95 degree high.

Shane and Misty from Kerville Texas headed out on ReelRum this morning with Omar and Americo. Their goal was marlin and they got just that. At Golden Gate they had 3 catch and release marlin. Thanks Shelton's for sending us some good friends of yours!

Next out was Ken and his 2 buddies Tom and Mr. Jenner. They hopped aboard RumRunnin with Javier and Manuel and had a great day at Golden Gate, they reeled in 2 catch and release stripers and 2 mako sharks. We hope to see you guys back here next year, and we'll see you at the Boat Show in San Mateo as well!

And last but not least is the troop from Louisana staying in the Portofino Condos in the stay and play package. The 6 of them are enjoying themselves as their first time in condo and having a grand ole time on day 1 of fishing with Alex. All aboard was Rene, John, Keith, Keith, Daniel and Carl. They also headed out to Golden Gate and reeled in 6 catch and release marlin and 2 mako sharks. Very well done gentlemen! We'll see you on Friday again!

Now I'm off on a booze cruise...stay warm up there!

Bucket List #1, Done

More Marlin tales from the Pacific today, but stay tuned as we have a boat that wants to venture up to the Sea of Cortez tomorrow looking for Tuna.

Today the Brothen party on Rum Runnin didn't show up. Too much Tequila last night?

Michael Heaton and Kathy Taft came in to the office yesterday afternoon and booked for today, hoping to cash (or Catch) in on the recent success of the boats heading to Golden Gate. That they did, catching and releasing 3 Marlin.

Tommy Wells and his crew also had a phenominal day catching and releasing 5 Marlin, all before 11am. They missed a few more and missed on a Dorado hit, but overall they were very happy and had a great day.

Steve Preece and his wife are down from Ontario, Canada and Steve was hoping to knock an item off his bucket list. That of course, would be to catch a Marlin. After two attempts in Florida, he came to the Marlin capital of the world and caught three today. They missed a few Makos and few more Marlin, but they had the "trip of a lifetime." See you next year guys.

"Thousands of Marlin out there, y'all are spoiled!"

Really great day on the water today with lots and lots of Marlin still boiling at the Golden Gate. Water temps are perfect at 72 degrees right now and the sea life has been busy.

Devin and David from New Jersey came down to Cabo and figured they had to go fishing. Neither of them had done any offshore fishing before and they had a day most anglers would dream of. Most offshore afficionados would be tickled if they caught 5 Marlin their first day on the water. Congrats to Devin and David, hopefully we have made lifelong anglers of you guys!

On Rum Runnin we had some Louisiana CCA folks down for the Play and Stay Package. Leo Pollazo brought down a couple of his buddies and they were looking forward to a day on the water filled with bent rods and big fish. Leo's buddies were a bit worried before they got on the water about sea sickness, well as luck would have it Leo was the one who felt under the weather. Unfortunately for these guys the Marlin bit late in the day and they ended up getting skunked.

Alex and Ramon fished together on El Nuevo today, as Cesar had the day off, and they were host to Ed Brack. Ed and I talked a bunch before he got down here and it was very nice to finally meet him. Ed was all business today, he got his Marlin and got back to the Marina around noon.

John and Lori, also from Louisiana, fished with us today and had a great day on the water. John and Lori are super great people and happened to be in Cabo on business and wanted to get out on the water for the day. They actually purchased a Play and Stay before they came, but have yet to schedule a time to use it. I guess this was a scouting trip. We'll have a lot to live up to when they come back as John and Lori had a great day, John came back into the office and commented, "we saw thousands of Marlin, y'all are spoiled down here." We sure are John! They caught several Marlin, lost several more and even caught a few big Mako Sharks. Look forward to seeing you down here soon guys!

All the boats are heading out again tomorrow, should be another great day on the water.

Until then,
Ryan

Feb. 21st

Lots of people in Cabo, which is a good think to see despite all that is going on in the world. Lots of people throwing their worries away and enjoying the warm inviting weather.

First to arrive bright, well not so bright yet, but early in the morning was the Salazar family. Caleb came with his 3 kids in tow, little Kaley and Will and mature Kaleb. All aboard with Omar and Ramon (Americo is out fishing the finger banks). They headed out and came back early after they had reeled in 8 dorado! Little Kaley had the line of the day “I just couldn’t do it by myself, they were too big!”. They’ve got plenty of dorado to take back to Denver with them, which is where John and I met them at the Sportsmen’s Expo Show. Good to see you guys again and we can’t wait to see the pictures.

Todd booked a group of guys down for Kai’s bachelor party. Some more hungover than others, I won’t mention names Garrett, but they arrived with 7 guys to board RumRunnin. Oopsie, reservation is for 6! As I had to explain, the Mexican laws are very strict on how many passengers can be on board of a certain sized boat. The Port Captain and Mexican Marines can get a company into a lot of trouble if they rule is broken. I said I’d love to let the 7 on board, but they understood the maximum was 6 guys for RumRunnin. Todd, was nice enough to stay back and let the other guys that hadn’t been to Cabo before hop on board while he went back to the hotel to catch up on sleep. They had a fun day on the water as their laughing and yelling was heard over the radio here in the office. Three catch and release marlin were reeled in by the rambunctious group.

The lastest report from the crew out at the fingerbanks is this… Utopia had caught 8 dorado yesterday afternoon, and by this morning had turned back around from finger as the bite wasn’t as strong. They were outside of Pescadero this afternoon and had caught 4 skip jacks, 2 catch and release marlin and 1 mako shark.

On Blue Thunder, the guys caught 8 dorado yesterday and decided to head to Sea of Cortez today. We’ll have the report on their catch later.

And Spartacus the last boat of the trio, have been busy busy, reeling in 40 dorado yesterday and 1 catch and release marlin at finger banks. Today they are at 2 catch and release marlin so far. They probably won’t get back until 5 or 6 this evening, so I’ll have to get you the full report tomorrow.

And for those of you that are freezing at home, scrapping your car and shoveling your walk, take a look at our Stay & Play Packages. They are a comfortable and affordable way to come to Cabo. So grab your friends and make a weekend out of it!

Have a great rest of the weekend!

Along the shore at Golden Gate...

Another beautiful day in Cabo, with a light breeze just enough to keep you cool in the 85 degree temp. Russel and Adri from Austin stopped in yesterday inquiring about going fishing and, thanks to Rafa and his good looking boat Anzuelo II, we got them on board this morning. Russel said he had seen us on ESPN, which has been awhile ago, so good memory! What a rare day for them it was up in Golden Gate, they had 10 giant squids and 3 mako sharks. They didn’t get the marlin they wanted, but boy did they have a busy day on the water.

Kendell, Manuel, Eldon and Joseph the fabulous four some headed out with Alex on El Nuevo. They had a great day on the water reeling in 8 dorado, plenty from them to take to Misiones de Kino this evening.

We were able to hook up 2 eager fishermen looking to share a boat today. They hopped aboard ReelRum. Russ, who has fished with RedRum many times before with the TripAdvisor Tournament joined up with Chris a.k.a. Thumper, from Alaska who arrived into Cabo last night. Omar and Ramon took them to the Pacific side up near golden gate but along the shore line, they reeled in 4 dorado. Heading out to dinner as newly found friends they are taking their catch to Soloman’s Landing, who cooks up a wicked caper/basil/soy sashimi. Yummmm!

Next were the guys John and I had met in the Denver show, Derek, Cody and Kurt. They headed out on the RedBeam this morning, and not too far after they headed out Marcial realized they needed to turn around due to some engine issues. They were good sports about it and we put them aboard another boat. As many of you boat owners know, no matter how well you keep your boat maintained, every once in a while something like this can happen. We thank you guys for being cool about the situation. And they came out on top with quite a day, one catch and release marlin, 1 mako shark, 5 dorado and 1 yellow fin tuna. Nice job guys and thanks for understanding that boats are boats.

RedRum then hosted the newly married Mr. and Mrs. Trigg down in Caboo on their honeymoon. They were aboard RumRunnin with Javier and Manuel. The newlyweds hit it big with 2 catch and release marlin and 2 dorado! They bought some shirts for proof!

And last but not least is the crew headed to the finger banks this morning. Three, 54’ Hatteras’ headed out, Utopia, Spartacus, and Blue Thunder. All aboard was the Culler group including Ricky, William, Charles, Eric, Thomas Jr., Thomas Sr., Benjamin, Keith and Brian. They booked a Stay & Play package through RedRum at the Portofino condos, and as part of their stay they wanted to stay over night at the finger banks and get 2 full days of fishing in there. Ryan headed out as a second mate on Utopia along with Americo as first mate and Rene as Captain. They departed at about 7:30 this morning to get to the grounds. We’ll have a full report of how they did today and tomorrow when they get back. Communication at this point is non-existent, I’m guessing they’ll get back around 7:00 tomorrow evening.

I guess with my husband out of town, I’m going to tie one on tonight! Oh wait, I have to get up at 5:30 tomorrow morning, I guess dinner and wine with friends will work.

We’ll keep you posted!

Dorado and more dorado!

Beautiful sunny weather and lots and lots of dorado!

A fun bunch down for Eric’s post wedding bachelor party headed out on ReelRum, RumRunnin and El Nuevo while leaving Lisa at home. All the while this lovely new wife was busy booking the reservations for this group. All from California, they had a lot of fun. ReelRum reeled in 7 dorado, El Nuevo reeled in 1 catch and release marlin and RumRunnin came home with the cake for 8 dorado and 1 catch and release marlin.

Scott and the crew from Toyota had a phenomenal day on the water. They were looking for something new so they headed out with RedRum for the first time. The fishing took place at Los Arcos, in front of the Pedregal on the Pacific side. They were content with Marcial and the crew on RedBeam and happy about the 4 dorado they pulled aboard. Scott mentioned there was a rookie on the rod when a marlin was fighting his way, they lost it in the end. Nice job you guys, we hope to see you back here soon!

Anzuelo II, one of our partner boats headed out again today with some RedRum clients. Dennis and his crew came back and said, “Rafa is fantastic, thank you so much for sending us out with him.” Rafa has had a lot of RedRum clients on his boat this week and as always shows quality in his charters, which is why we trust him to put our clients on his boat. They reeled in one catch and release marlin, 3 dorado and some bonitos a.k.a skip jacks.

Warren, Mary-Jo, Brad, Cindy, Jim and Alane headed out for a half day trip aboard another partner boat, Pescado III. They didn’t have as much luck for the dorado, but were able to get into some inshore fish, sierra a.k.a king mackerel and Spanish mackerel. They had a good ole time though!

Until tomorrow… Brooke

Lots of marlin, but they aren't as hungry...more dorado!

Apologies for a few days late fish report, it’s been a busy last few days, and well the power went out yesterday mid morning, so I’m a bit behind.

We’ve had a lot of boats going out on Tuesday and Wednesday and the fishing has changed a bit. No longer is Golden Gate the hot spot for marlin, the bite has actually been non-existent there, they are still out there, but they just aren't hungry, which our anglers quickly learned on Tuesday the 17th.

Mark and Jeff from Idaho headed out first on the 17th aboard a Panga and then on the 18th aboard one of our partner boats Sol Mar 7. Aboard the Panga they reeled in 1 dorado and 2 amberjack. They enjoyed the different type of fishing the inshore bite is. With their newly caught dorado, they headed over to the Early Bird, the place where you all buy coffee in the morning, and they had some nice fresh dorado ceviche for lunch. On day two, they saw a lot of dolphin while out near the lighthouse but didn’t run into anything, not even tuna. As Mark, a.k.a Clark W. Griswald, nicknamed by his son said, “it’s fishing not catching”. These two were headed back to the cold of Idaho on the 19th but look back to heading back to Cabo for that marlin they dreamed of. We wish we could have made them bit for you guys.

Another two day fishing crew was John from Florida and Ken from Illinois, two perfect gentleman that headed out with Omar on ReelRum for 2 half days. They had 2 phenomenal days on the water. Heading out to the lighthouse on the 17th they reeled in 5 dorado and on the 18th they were very near the arch reeling in 4 dorado. They’ve got two ice chests sitting at our office waiting to be picked up with nicely fresh frozen fish to take back to the states with them. It was a pleasure meeting you two, we look forward to the pictures.

The dynamic trio of Jerry, Billy and Brad headed out for 3 days on the water. The 17th and 18th being their two final days at sea. On the 17th heading out on RumRunnin again, they were able to get 1 dorado aboard. With the fishing slowing down at Golden Gate, we haven’t seen as many marlin. Which in my opinion I prefer, who doesn’t like fresh dorado cooked up the day you catch it? Anywho, day three for the trio was aboard the RedBeam with Marshall, and a bit slow compared to Monday they were able to reel in another dorado. They were all happy campers as they each got a fish reeled in at the tip of the Baja. Great to meet you three, we look forward to your return!

A big group from Onatario headed down to Cabo, all six, Brad, Kyle, April, Barb, Michelle and Kevin had a good time on El Nuevo with Alex on the 17th. However, the fishing god weren’t in their favor. The biggest change we’ve seen this year with migration of fish you could say was Feb. 17th, it was the day the fish stopped biting at Golden Gate. They saw tons of marlin jumping but couldn’t get one on board. A good day on the water with family beats a good day working any day.

RedBeam headed out with Chris, Jana, Mike and Kristine a fun group that was rearing to go fishing bright and early. While out of the cold of Colorado they were ready to have a good time! While having a lot of fun on the boat, they reeled in 1 catch and release marlin as well as one dorado.

The big group aboard Utopia was down for a wedding and was ready to have a blast on board on the 17th. With 12 people, its hard not to, pretty much a party at that point. They came from all over the U.S. to meet up in Cabo. All aboard were, Dusty, Blake, Ronald, Krystal, Dale, Shannon, Laird, Sandy, Bill, Donna, Brayton and Krysta. Although the marlin were swirling around them, they had no luck getting one on board. However, being aboard a 54’ Hatteras is hardly anything to complain about. It sounds like they had a good time, reeling one in or not.

Barbara and Bob from Sacramento headed out on the 17th with another of our partner boats, Anzuelo II with Captain Rafa. They had a great time on the water reeling in 2 dorado.

Out on the 17th was Chuck hailing from the cold of South Dakota conquered the waters of Baja solo aboard another partner boat Sol Mar I. He had a great time with Freddy and reeled in 5 dorado. Nice job Chuck!

A fun group of four, Edward, Sue, Deborah and Ray headed out on RumRunnin with Javier aka Chivo. Getting out of the Seattle and Michigan cold they were glad to be in the sunny skies of Cabo, you could tell by their tans! Edward was the lucky one, reeling in the estimated 190 lb. striped marlin. He was so proud of his catch he’s bringing home a trophy to put on his wall!

The Volkmann group was out on day 2, on El Nuevo. Compared with the fishing they had on Monday, the seas had drastically changed in 24 short hours. They came back in a bit early but were able to reel in a dorado and a hammerhead shark! Great to meet all of you guys, we look forward to seeing you back down again, and thanks for telling everyone you know about RedRum!

Las but not least was William, Douglas and Lee aboard our partner boat Anzuelo II. Now these guys I think are my favorites, partly because they are great guys and partly because they are from Nebraska! Hailing from around Kearney they left their ladies at the Riu Hotel and headed out fishing. They reeled in 2 dorado and had one striper on the line for a ling while but lost it in the end. Apparently there was a rookie angler at the other end of the rod. Ha! Great to meet you guys and Go Huskers!

That’s all for now…

Monday's Marlin

Sunny skies, some breeze and a bit hot in the afternoon!

Brian came down with his wife and while she spent a day at the spa, he decided to go fishing. We hit it off well as he wore his Boston Red Sox hat, so of course we automatically like him. For the Yankees fans, we’ll just politely ask you to leave. Brian headed out on ReelRum with Omar and Americo. The strong guy that he is, he was able to reel in and release two striped marlin on his own, all while his wife was getting a massage. Nice work!

Jerry, John and Bill headed out on the RedBeam looking for adventure on the water. They stayed closer to the bay, near the lighthouse area where the marlin were jumping. After pitching more and more bait to the marlin, they couldn’t get them to bite to save their lives. Unfortunately they weren’t hungry and the gang never got one on board, however, they are true fisherman as they know the sport of fishing is fishing not catching.

Billy, Brad and Jerry headed out on their first of 3 days fishing aboard RumRunnin. Loaded with coffee and a cooler of their own filled with beers they were ready for a great day on the water. They made it out to Golden Gate with Javier where the reeled in 2 catch and release stripers. They’ll be out on the water again tomorrow so we’ll see them then!

Steve along with David and Mary joined us from Connecticut. They headed out on a half day trip with Rafa aboard one of our recommended boats Anzuelo II. They headed out to the lighthouse as well, since a half day trip can’t get them out to Golden Gate they hoped to grab a bite there. They fought a nice big dorado for a bit, but couldn’t get the monster on board. They threw bait to a lot of marlin but just couldn’t get them to bite.

Jeff & Erica, as well as Jeff’s parents Donna and Barry from New Jersey hit the water on El Nuevo with Alex. On their first day fishing they headed out to Golden Gate as well, they came upon a bunch of marlin and ended up reeling in 4 of them and releasing those same four. On this boat we can also say that we included their dinner in their charter price, as they reeled in a dorado to take to Misiones de Kino of course, our favorite spot.

We’ll see many of you again tomorrow.

Tight lines. Brooke

Stripers and Sharks

Sunny weather and blue skies, why wouldn’t anyone want to be fishing? Despite the breeze, the Pacific side has been calm and boiling with stripers and sharks. Don’t get excited, not strippers boys.

First group to the office this morning is a long time RedRum customer Dallas along with his wife Kathy. We paired them up with another nice couple from North Carolina looking to share a boat. They headed out on the RedBeam to Golden Gate. Each couple came back with a catch and release striper. Dallas and Kathy had their hearts set on dorado, so it looks like they’ll have to head out again (oh bummer) to catch their goal!

Next out was Kathryn and Randy from Annapolis, Maryland. A super nice couple whose friends we met on the Tropical Jazz & Wine cruise a few weeks back. Amidst many cocktails we had good times on board and Roy and his wife were nice enough to recommend RedRum to Kathryn and Randy. By the way if any of you come to Cabo and would like a nice sunset cruise that is free of spring breakers and body shots, I highly recommend the Tropicat Jazz & Wine cruise. It’s top notch with great food, staff and beverages, and not just wine either. Anywho, Randy and Kathy headed out to Golden Gate aboard RumRunnin. Randy was quite a trooper as I think he spent most of his time hurled over the edge of the boat, and Kathy was nice enough to take pictures. Thatta girl, good blackmail someday! In the midst of blowing lunch, they caught and released 3 striped marlin and one baby mako. And despite not feeling well, Randy stayed out there the whole time, not that is a true fishermen!

Returning with us once again is John, Kirby and Lewis. Hailing from Calgary and Victoria they boarded El Nuevo and also headed out to Golden Gate. They caught and released 3 striped marlin in the water of the Pacific. They almost got a dorado on board, and managed to land their mako. Nice job guys, we hope to see you guys back here again!

And last but not least is Erick and Gayla. Now I think Erick owes Gayla a big thanks as she is the one that convinced him to actually go fishing! I love women like that. I think he was on the fence and she pushed him into the arms of Omar and Americo on ReelRum. After their trip they came back to the office and Gayla says, “we had a terrible time, just terrible.” In the background I see Erick’s face filled with smiles and glee. I wasn’t quite sure what to think but figured Gayla was being sarcastic. She continued, “you guys made him reel in 4 striped marlin! He is exhausted and we had to come back early.” And they did, showed up at the office around 1:30. Well that about sums it up, oh and 3 of the stripers were just shy of 200 pounds, not to mention the mako they pulled in as well.

Excellent day for everyone! Have a wonderful rest of the weekend.

Great Fishing = Great Fun!

A great calm clear day down in Cabo, nothing out of the ordinary or bad happened out on the water for all you superstitious people out there on Friday the 13th. In fact it was a phenomenal day for those on RedRum boats.

First to arrive this morning was the chipper group from Denver who John and I met at the Sportsmen's Expo show. This enthusiastic crew coming to Cabo once again for a fun vacation and decided to fish with us this time down. Tiffany and Shawn along with Steve and John headed out to Golden Gate aboard ReelRum. Although the breeze is still in the air they said the ride out there was smooth. They reeled in 5 catch and release marlin, 1 mako shark and 1 dorado. Hell of a day guys, we look forward to seeing you back down soon.

Next up was the ever bubbly group from New Jersey. Some mutual friends of ours via our buddy Nick out east (what up Nick!). Thanks for sending us a fun handful of sarcastic easterners! Tom, Amanda, Pat and Catherine headed out on RumRunnin with Chivo. They too got into the marlin out at Golden Gate and caught and release 5 of them. And the sharks must be everywhere out there because they reeled in a mako as well. Pat, many thanks from Ryan for his beloved Dunkin' Donuts coffee... he was about to run out. Much appreciated!

And last but not least was another group of fun loving people! The Smiths from Maryland and the Shields from Colorado had no complaints on the water today. They headed out on the RedBeam and reelend in 4 dorado! Plenty for them to eat for dinner!

Oh, and the group on El Nuevo, another no show. Shame on them, they missed out on some killer fishing!

Wishing all of you a light spirited Friday the 13th.

Feliz Noche... Brooke

Attitude is Everything

The winds are still ever present in the afternoons down here in Cabo. But that hasn't stopped the fish from biting.

Aboard the RedBeam was George, Natalee, Larry and Linda all coming from Ohio. After buying a time share down here in Cabo, they've become annual vacationers to the Baja. After fishing with us last year, they came back for more. They reeled in 2 nice dorado for dinner.

Jeff, Drake, Ron, Kylan and Kaden all came down from Canada and have been on RedRum boats before. This time heading out with Chivo aboard RumRunnin. With the winds they way they are they fished out by the "Faro" a.k.a Lighthouse where they caught and released 1 marlin. On their way back in they did some fishing close to shore from the lighthouse and ran into 5 dorado! Plenty for them to take back to their hotel and cook up for dinner. Nice job guys, and enjoy!

Jason, Brian, Jennifer, Jason and Anique headed out today on El Nuevo's long awaited new engine. Getting out of the cold weather in Minnesota the hot sun of the Baja gave them some nice color on the water today. They had a good day on the water catching and releasing 2 stripped marlin. They were great sports when the boats alternator base broke off unexpectedly, having nothing to do with the new engines. Our faithful mechanic Rene was able to head out and meet them to switch the part out quickly and get them back on their own. As many of you know who own your own boats, these things tend to happen, no matter how closely you maintain your boats. We greatly appreciate the easy going and understanding attitude of this group as we do our very best to keep our boats in the best shape possible. We hope to see you guys back here next year.

Ken and Pam headed out for a second day this week aboard ReelRum. Another fun and easy going pair they had a fantastic day on the water. With just the two of them, they were able to pull in 2 stripped catch and release marlin, 2 dorado and 1 small mako shark. They were nice enough to leave the fish with the crew.

Don't forget to send us your pictures and we'll get them up on our website!

I think the quote of the day was, "It wasn't a big deal, it gave us more time on the water fishing". Now that is a great attitude.

Marlin and Dorado, Oh My!

The sunny days of Cabo have returned and the winds have died down a bit from what we've seen last week. The fishing is still taking place out in the Sea of Cortez, some boats at Gordo Banks, some boats right off the arch.

Today was the third and final day for Rudy aboard ReelRum, after 3 days of hard core fishing! On board with Omar and Americo, he had a phenomenal great 3 days on the water reeling a total of 3 catch and release marlin and 13 dorado. The final finale was today, tackling 7 dorado. Plenty for him to take home and plenty for he and his wife at Misiones this evening. If that kind of fishing can't make you happy I don't know what can, job well done! Rudy and his wife are headed out to La Paz tomorrow for more fun on the Baja.

A fun group from Utah headed out on the RedBeam today. Debbie, Jan, Mel and Travis aboard with Captain Marshall had a fantastic day on the water. They got into some marlin as well as dorado. Unfortunately one of the marlin didn't make it but they released the other 3 marlin. And well, the 2 dorado will make a fine dinner for the 4 of them.

The group for El Nuevo didn't show up for their charter this morning which is a bummer, as they missed out on some great fishing. However, after the new engine being put in, El Nuevo is running bigger and better than ever.

And last but not least, my own hubby, yes Ryan, headed out fishing on RumRunnin with his long time buddy Brian and girlfriend Jess, who have been down in Cabo for a month or so, hailing from the east coast. They managed to drink more beers than anything else, but that is to be expected of men fishing, right? Jess, I'm sure had to do the babysitting while I worked away here in the office. The good thing is, they brought home 2 dorado for dinner. Thank you honey.

Until tomorrow!

Too much wind on Tuesday...

...for the boys to head up the Pacific, so all boats fished the Sea of Cortez today.

Rudy headed out with Omar and Americo again today on ReelRum, Rudy landed several Dorado and even pitched bait to several Marlin. The Marlin weren't hungry and Rudy won't be either after a nice Dorado dinner.

The Danattell's from Denver were going to be the first to test out the new engines on El Nuevo, but Rene the mechanic needed "one more day." If I could only patent that phrase in Cabo. Thankfully the Danattell's were understanding when they went out with Gerrardo on SM7. A Dorado for everyone on the boat(5) and even a few Marlin.

Finally, the fellas from the Childress wedding party came in and joined us on Rum Runnin. These guys are going to have great stories the rest of the wedding weekend, not to mention fish. I think these guys had at least 8 fish by the looks of their bad.

See you tomorrow,
Ryan

Monday Monday

No case of the Monday's here. Winds died down and folks were able to head back to Golden Gate. We were worried that we wouldn't be able to get up there, but today was relatively calm on the water.

Rudy is here for 3 days of fishing aboard ReelRum and today was a great start. 3 catch and release Marlin and 3 nice Dorado. Not bad for a guy out there by himself.

Our CCA friends from Louisiana had another great day on Rum Runnin as well. While today was slower than yesterday for them, they were still able to land a nice Dorado and a catch and release Marlin. They are headed to Misiones de Kino for a Dorado dinner. And yes, we are jealous.

The husband and wife Wilczek team went out with Rafa today and they too were able to land and release a really nice Marlin. Great Job guys!

-See you tomorrow, Ryan

Off to the Sea of Cortez

Right around 2:00 yesterday afternoon the winds picked up and haven't really let up since. We had a few boats come back in early yesterday as the anglers were looking a bit green. So today a new destination was in order and the boats headed out to the Sea of Cortez side to get some relief from the beating of the Pacific, to some calmer seas on the other side of Baja.

We had 4 boats head out today and some new species were caught that we haven't seen in the Pacific waters lately.

Harold headed out again today this time for a quick 5 hour trip on a panga and getting into lots of sierra and tuna. He reeled in 25 sierra total and 4 yellowfin tuna on the Sea of Cortez!

Greg and his wife came down from Wasilla, Alaska to fish on ReelRum with Omar and Americo. They headed out to the Sea of Cortez as well and reeled in 5 dorados!

Scott and Andre from Alberta headed out on the RedBeam along with their 2 boys. They too headed out to the Sea of Cortez to prevent any munchkins blowing lunch on board. They reeled in 2 dorado as well.

And last but not least, the 2 couples, Tommy and Ann along with Dennis and Rachel hailing from Louisiana headed out with Javier today. After they got dropped off at the wrong location by the wonderful taxi drivers we have in Cabo, they arrived on time to get on board no problem. They are staying here in Cabo with the Stay & Play package offered by RedRum in the Portofino Condos. On their first day fishing they reeled in 2 nice sized dorados from the Sea of Cortez as well as 2 skip jacks. The question here is, where do you take your catch on a Sunday when Misiones is closed? This question I never know how to answer, especially if they aren't sushi eaters as my first response would be Arts & Sushi. So they are heading out to La Pampa, a great Argentian Steakhouse and will head to Misiones tomorrow night instead.

Now I'm off to pay more attention to my hand in pitch while my other hand on my Corona.
Salud!

Mucho Mucho Viento

Lots of wind in Cabo today, which of course made for some rough seas.

Our good buddy Dave Gapinski went out with his two buddies today. After hearing how well the guys did yesterday, Dave was not going to miss out on the action today. After a rough ride up to the Golden Gate Dave was looking a little green. The boys on Rum Runnin quickly hooked him up with a Marlin, hoping to take his mind off the seas. He was able to catch and release a nice Marlin, his first ever! The crew on Rum Runnin, Cali and Manuel, were able to hook two more, but that was all Dave could take. They were back in a hour and half, 3 Striped Marlin, catch and release.

Gerry De La Vega and his party headed out with Omar and Americo on ReelRum. No one got sick and they had a great day on the water. After catching and releasing 3 Marlin, they headed closer to shore and grabbed 3 Dorado for dinner.

Mark Durham and his crew head out with the RedBeam and grabbed 3 Dorado. They just walked out of the office with a few filets they are bringing to Misiones De Kino, Coconut Mango and Chilpialla Dorado in their future. Certainly a bit jealous.

Finally, Craig Bryan and his crew were supposed to head out with El Nuevo. The new engines we dropped in are almost done, but we just couldn't button it up in time for today's charter. Mexico. Anyway, Craig and his crew headed out with Gerry on SM7 and were able to catch and release 4 nice Striped Marlin.

Another great day on the water.

Feb. 6th

More Marlin at Golden Gate has been the common theme the last few weeks and today was no different.

Ryan, yes my husband Ryan finally got to get out of the office and take a day to go fishing. He headed out with Robert and Andrew, brothers from San Diego who've become great friends of ours. They headed to Golden Gate and reeled in 3 striped marlin out there.

ReelRum came back with a grin to grin smile from Harold hailing from West Virginia. He got out of the beautiful neck of woods where he lives and white water rafts to come down fishing with his buddy Pete from Pennsylvania whom are mutual friends of Jane and Dave! (Thanks for sending them our way Dave.) They hit up Golden Gate as well with Omar and Americo and reeled in 4 marlin up to the boat, catch and release of coure, while the fifth one got away.

RumRunnin had aboard the Hill group who headed down from southern California. No suprise that they headed out to Golden Gate as well to where the marlin seem to be boiling out there. They came back with 4 marlin flags and 4 release flags.

It sounds like I need to get out of the office and go fishing!

Update for the 4th

Today we had a bunch of boats head out, all in different directions it seemed, and with different fishing in mind.

Rum Runnin headed to Golden Gate and chased Marlin around. 3 catch and release Marlin and a Dorado for the Bastian crew and they were all smiles.

Red Beam with Marshall and Cali landed a Dorado and few small Tuna. Promising sign seeing a few Tuna being brought in. No information about there whereabouts is available at this time. We know where they are, and that's all that matters. (Just in case the other fleets are reading the report.)

Anzuelo headed out and the Henthorn party wanted nothing to do with Marlin. They were searching for Tuna and knew it could be a long day of "fishing," but stuck to their guns. Unfortunately, it did not pay off.

Omar and Americo on ReelRum stayed inshore and were able to get a few different fish from the Tuna family for their clients. No yellowfin, but a lot of fun for the Slater's.

More Marlin!

Another day of clear and sunny skies down in Cabo San Lucas. The marlin bite at Golden Gate is still very hot! The groups that headed out on the water today headed out that way and had some great fishing stories to tell.

Mike and Tami headed out again, this time with Javier and Manuel aboard RumRunnin. Their second day on the water with friends Heather and Patrick again. They were able to get 3 striped marlin to the boat. In the midst of it all, the pole broke and Manuel jimmy-rigged the line and pole to get the marlin on board. These guys were thoroughly impressed that the McGyver within Manuel didn't loose the marlin! Nice job. The topped off the day with one dorado for dinner. Tousignants and Halversons we hope to see you guys again soon. And don't forget to send in some pictures!

The second group out was the friendly bunch from Minnesota and Texas. Patrick, Diane and Charles headed out on ReelRum with the well-known crew Omar and Americo. They too headed up the Pacific side to Golden Gate where they got into some striped marlin as well. They reeled in 3 striped marlin, 1 mako shark and 1 dorado for dinner. They are headed out to Misiones de Kino, our favorite spot for them to cook it up with that coconut mango sauce or Israel's secret chilpalla sauce. yum yum. So good, that Ryan and I are going to head there for dinner tonight with some out of town friends. And with that, I hope all of you have a delicious meal as well!

Pobrecita Brookita!

Brooke's not feeling well today, over-worked and still cold from heading to Denver last week, things finally caught up with her. Sniffles and a sore throat, she's a trooper though, she'll be back and randy within a day or two. Just a little shout-out for the patient.

Jay Schmalenberg joined us today on the RedBeam. Jay brought his son and nephew out on the water for the day and they did great. The boys proved to be luckier than Jay however, each bringing in a Marlin while Jay lost 2 others that were hooked up. They also hooked up a nice Dorado for dinner.

Jack Tramuta hopped off the cruise ship at noon and jumped right onto ReelRum with Americo and Ramon. Without the necessary time to run all the way to Golden Gate, the boys fished about 4 miles off the point and had great success. Jack had always wanted to catch a Marlin and has been trying unsuccessfully for years. 30 minutes into his charter with RedRum and he was hooked up. He also brought in 3 Dorado shortly thereafter. Unfortunately for Jack (but very fortunately for the staff here at RedRum) you are not allowed to take fish back onto the cruise ship. Jack, I shall toast to you this evening, thanks for the Dorado filets.

Finally, we had the Anders party out for their final day of fishing with Javier and Manuel on Rum Runnin. While they were looking for a few more Marlin and something for dinner, it looks like cheeseburgers again. They caught and released 1 Marlin and another died during the battle, having been foul-hooked. Javier and Manuel assured the clients they would be happy to have the Marlin for dinner, so it surely did not go to waste.

Another great day.

Get well soon Brookita,
Ryan

January 31st and Feb 1st

Robert Fazio along with family and friends, Robert, James, David and Larry had a great day on the water heading out on RumRunnin to Golden Gate. They were great sports in the morning to understand having to move them from El Nuevo to RumRumrunnin due to some engine overhauling on El Nuevo. With 5 guys on board and 5 marlin brought in a can't imagine a better day on the water.

Heading out on the 1st of Feb, were 2 fun couples Patrick & Heather along with Mike & Tami. Hailing from Greenbay, I imagine they timed their vacation right to be out of the chilly weather of Wisconsin. They headed out on ReelRum with Omar and Americo and had a phenomenal day on the water. They reeled in 4 marlin and even bought themsleves a mount. Mike wrestled with a mako shark for a bit before it got away and on their way back in they did some inshore fishing where they tackled a roosterfish as well as a king mackerel. Very nice work guys. Tami and Mike, we look forward to seeing you guys on Tuesday for another bang up day on the water. Don't forget to send in your pics to our email and we'll upload them on the website!

Also heading out on the 1st was the Anders group from Tejas, taking thier winter vacation at RedRum's Stay & Play condos located at Portofino. With 3 couples in the condos they are having a fun stay so far with another day of fishing to come tomorrow. They went out on RumRunnin and headed to Golden Gate to reel in 3 nice sized striped marlin. They will also have a mounted trophy for their wall. We'll see you guys tomorrow for another day on the water!

Until tomorrow... tight lines.
