September 30th Fish Report

Marlin Playground
Today was one of those days that Golden Gate is just filled with Stripe Marlin. Bait balls were boiling up all over the place as boats were running and gunning to get them hooked.
It's not hard to believe, Cesar and Tantrum lead the fleet with 4 Catch and Release Marlin as well as a few Dorado. He headed out with Cary and Jaime Parsons, this was their 2nd day fishing and had a blast with Cesar. So much that they decided they were going to fish again with him tomorrow! Just Cesar being Cesar!
Omar and Jesus had an excellent time with the Hooks party. The 3 ladies each got to catch and release a Stripe Marlin. The biggest one, probably the biggest one of the fleet was an estimated near 200 pounds! Luckily they were also able to catch some nice Dorado for a quick lunch at Soloman's Landing. Cheers!
Matt and Julie Crowl had an awesome time with Javier on Rum Runnin. They were able to land 3 Stripe Marlin. One was a single that Julie landed and the next 2 were brought up during a double hook-up! Of course Javier was able to get them into some Dorado. Matt was going to take it back to the hotel to get some "fresh California Rolls" made from his catch! Sounds good!
John Rolfes and his group headed out with Alex on El Nuevo and had a blast. Juan a.k.a "Slim" was able to hook into 3 Marlin which they were able to bring up to the boat for a quick photo session and back into the water for the relase. They will be enjoying fresh Dorado for dinner as they were able to bring in 6 nice Bulls to the boat.
Our good buddy from the Make-A-Wish Foundation Dave Pirie spent his last day on the water with us. He has fished with us for the last 4 days and was all set on catching Billfish. I must admit fishing 4 days can tire anyone down here, that's not including the nightlife!! Today they spent the better part of the morning chasing a school of Popoise around and catching Yellowfin Tuna. They were able to reel in about 6 nice ones, smallest being about 35 pounds and the biggest Dave estimated was about 45-50 pounds. By the looks of the steaks they are going to be enjoying Yellowfin for quite some time! Daves daughter caught her first yellowfin and was somehow convinced that she had to eat the heart of the fish since it was her first one! She did it! I'm sure Marshall (the captain) and her dad Dave had something to do with that. Great seeing you guys again and best of luck to you!

September 26th Fish Report

Friday Fishing Frenzy!

1/2 days seem to be productive today as two of the four charters we sent out today were half-day trips. Rum Runnin had one with my buddy Chris Steidinger from Misiones de Kino. He and his wife headed out and landed a few Dorado and were also able to catch a Stripe Marlin during there 5 hours with Ramon and Americo.

Ken and Adrianna Schaufelberger headed out with Cesar on Tantrum for their half-day. Although they really wanted to catch Tuna, Cesar explained to them that the Tuna are a little out of range for a half-day charter. Running about 15-25 miles out, a half-day charter will not give you enough time. They were still able to catch plent of Dorado to pack in our freezer to take back to Neenah, WI. with them!

Our buddy from TX, Chad Foster fished on Reel Rum today with Jesus and Mickey. They hooked into pleanty of Dorado during their trip and had a blast. They will be enjoying their fish tonight at Misiones de Kino restaurant. Maybe a cocktail or two?

Brandon Hoey and his group finally got to Cabo after having to wait for what seemed like an eternity for these guys. I have not seen a group be more excited to be on vacation and fishing down here. The gang had a killer day on their first run with El Nuevo. Alex put them on 4 Yellowfin Tuna, 6 Dorado and a Stripe Marlin catch and release. Not bad for day 1 of 3! Let's see if they can out do themselves the next couple of days. They let Alex know that the "bar has been set"! He didn't quite know what that meant but smiled and said "yes sir" anyways!

Jason Jacobs headed out with his buddies on Red Beam. The group will be fishing a second day but decided to get 5 out on the Beam to see how much table fish they can get. They loaded up on plenty of Dorado! On Sunday they will be heading out on 2 boats, ReelRum and Tantum. The're going to be looking for Billfish so we will see what happens.
TGIF!!!
Enjoy the weekend everyone!
GO FROGS!!!!

Luis

Cota and Briseno Fishing Trip 2008

Victor Cota and family came along with the Jesse Briseno and his family for one heck of a fishing trip. This is the email I recieved earlier today from Jesse along with some good photos!

Enjoy...

"Wow, what an experience with Redrum and its crew. We (Cota & Briseno) family spent three days fishing and had an amazing time. The first day out Victor was a little sick but still managed to bring in his first dorado. My son (Chris) and I (Jess Jr) managed to land 23 dorado. Yes, 23 dorado in one day. Even Manual and Cesar got into the action, landing the biggest dorado of the day.
The second day Vicotor Sr. was able to land many dorado including a marlin; that truely made his day. Chris also landed many dorado and even landed a 200lb marlin. Awesome, Awesome experience. On the third day we strictly set out to catch some marlin. My Dad (Jess Sr.) landed numerous amount of dorado including a sailfish. In the three days fishing with redrum we probably cought a total of thirty-five dorado, 2 marlin, 1 sailfish. We could not have asked for a better experience. Thanks, to all of the redrum rum crew. You guys were all great."

September 24th Fish Report

Reel Rum headed out for a half-day of fishing with Mr. Denotter and his buddies. Today Americo and Ramon took reins of the boat and they brought some luck with them. In 4 hours the group of 4 was able to bring four 40+ pound Yellowfin Tuna to the boat as well as 6 Dorado! They were back to the Marina by a 1/4 past 11:00 am! Don't you wish every day was like that?? I know it would make our job a little easier!

CCA member of the Lousianna chapter, Mr. Larry Bloomquist and his group fished again with Alex on El Nuevo. Slim was on it today as the group really wanted a couple of Marlin. Slim was able to hook the group into two nice size Stripe Marlin, both brought to the boat and released. Of course, a couple of Dorado were caught along the way during the troll from The Old Lighthouse to Golden Gate where they spotted the Marlin.

Our good buddy Joe T. is fishing with his good buddy Capt. Alex tomorrow on Nuevo, the 2 have been fishing Nuevo ever since Alex came to Redrum nearly 2 years ago. Keep you guys posted..

Luis

September 23rd Fish Report

Kevin and Amanda Kosik had a good day fishing with Cesar. He wasn't able to put them on any Marlin like we expected but that's fishing. The Marlin were phinicky today, only one was caught and it was caught by Slim on El Nuevo. The Kosiks spent the day reeling in Dorado. That's nothing to complain about!

Not only did Slim, the mate on El Nuevo put the Bloomquist party on a nice Stripe Marlin he also hooked them into a YellowFin Footy Tuna and 4 Dorado. They will be heading out one more day with Alex and Slim, hoping for.. of course, more Marlin!

Javier a.k.a El Chivo (Goat) fished with our buddy Keith Spencer from California. Rum Runnin spent the day on the prowl for Marlin but to no avail. They still had a great time catching Dorado, seems to be the norm! But hey, no one's crying!!

I can feel the town starting to prepare itself for the Tourney season starting next month! Pretty exciting!

Saludos!

September 22nd Fish Report

While most of the boats in the fleet stayed back today to get a little TLC from the crew, Rum Runnin was out doing what she does best!

Javier took care of business as usual representing the only Redrum boat out on the water today! He and Mickey did a great job with Kevin Kosik and his wife. At the end of the day the tallied 3 Catch and release Stripe Marlin. The biggest of the day was slightly over 105" and weighed nearly 200 pounds according to Mickey, it was caught by Mrs. Kosik (not that it matters, right Kevin)!!! They were also able to catch a couple (4 ) nice Dorado for the freezer.

The couple heads out tomorrow with Cesar on Tantrum. With the Marlin bite picking up again Im sure Cesar can pull something out of his sleeves. He always does!

'Til Tomorrow.

September 19th Fish Report- Different Day, Same Results

Ryan, Brooke and I met Steve Boeckman at Misiones de Kino, a great local restaurant back in Febuary. We had just got done with a long day of fishing and had plenty of food to share. We sent a plate of fresh ceviche to his table. He had just gotten engaged and he and his fiance were celebrating with a good meal. After some small talk about the fish we sent over we brought out the tequila and the good times rolled after that. We have been in contact with Steve and tomorrow he gets married!!

Today we sent him and his buddies out to of course have a good time but more importantly to catch enought fish for a 40+ person dinner at Misiones tonight! I am happy to say that they did both! Steves group on his boat caught 11 Dorado while the other boat fishing wtih Javier on Rum Runnin caught plenty of Dorado as well as a nice Tuna and a Squid for some calamari appetizer! We are glad everything worked out and wish you 2 the best of luck!

Victor Cota and his friends headed out on El Nuevo today. Cabo night life may have gotten the best of them last night! They had some pretty interesting stories this morning when they showed up to the Redrum office. They cut their day a little short but were still able to catch plenty of Dorado! Victor and the gang have a couple of more days fishing with us, we'll keep you posted on their success!

Larry Schwarz and his sons fished on Reel Rum today and had a great time. Each of the guys were able to catch at least 5 Dorado. The larger ones were kept and Jesus was able to release the ones that looked like they still needed some time to grow! Great job guys and thanks for the releases.

TGIF!! Have a good weekend everyone!

September 18th Report

Kelly Ehlers and his buddy Jared had an awesome time fishing with Cesar on Tantrum today. The 2 were not too sure if they were going to be able to squeeze in a day of fishing while down on vacation but they are sure glad that they did. Cesar immediately put them on Dorado, they are every where right now! They caught 8 nice size bulls before 11:00am! Than the fun came, Raymond spotted a Marlin and hauled down the ladder for the live bait rod, sure enough, seconds later Jared was hooked up. An awesome 106" 180+ pound Stripe Marlin caught and released. Kelly also fought a Mako shark for 15-20 minutes before she got off the line. Great day guys. See you next year!

Our CCA group, Mr. Harry Johnson and his boys fished for their 2nd day on El Nuevo. Alex took great care of them both days. Yesterday they caught more Dorado than they could imagine. Today their plan was to look for Tuna. Unfortunately they could not find the school of Tuna, as they have seemed to have moved a little out of Cabo reach right now. No worries though, the 10 Dorado and 2 Stipe Marlin they caught kept them pretty busy!!

After checking out these CCA folks fish I'm starting to think they are some pretty good anglers! Pretty lucky too!

Dr. Rick Schneider brought the whole gang down from Kerrville, TX to check up on the Redrum crew as well as get some fishing in with his 2 boys Rich and Corey. The gang headed out on Rum Runnin this morning. After not hearing from them all day because of low signal on our 2 ways I was happy when I saw her cruise back into the Marina with boat full of smiling faces! The gang loaded up on Dorado, much released (gracias) which included a double hook-up of 50+ pound Bulls! Elizabeth, Rich's girlfriend caught the biggest fish of the day. An estimated 120 pound Pacific Sailfish! Of course, it was great seeing all of you guys. As always it was an awesome time with the Schneider family!! Thanks for everything.

Well off to vacuum seal fish!

Luis

September 16th Fish Report

Reel Rum was the only boat to head out of the marina for Redrum today. An early morning storm gave us a little scare about the Marina closing down but it lightened up aroun 5am. It proved to help out the fishing because the Breadon group caught over 20 Dorado today. They only kept 3 per angler and had plenty of meat to add to their catch from yesterday! Great job gang! 2 days of great Dorado fishing with Omar and Reel Rum.

We expect the bite to continue to be as solid as it has been the past couple of days so if you are interested in hooking into some nice Dorado shoot me an email at info@redrumcabo.com

Adios,

Luis

Pic of the Day - "To be alive a plus, To be on the sea a bonus"

Mr. Greg Mutch and his 71" Dorado. Mr. Mutch fished with us last month, several time with Alex and El Nuevo. He fished alone each day and he was glad he did. Mr. Mutch wrote me an email today and this is what it said:

"Good afternoon Luis,

Sorry this is a bit late but here (I hope) is a photo of the 71” Dorado I caught on El Nuevo on 22 August.

Thanks also for putting the harness on board. As a two time cancer survivor my left arm has been ravaged by surgery, chemo and radiotherapy. With a poor grip I would hate to drop a rod overboard!

I did not think the fishing was slow during my charter and you can see why. To be alive is a plus, to be on the sea a bonus, my largest sailfish and Dorado and a marlin after a 10 year wait - delight! Thanks guys.

Keep up the fish reports, they brighten up dreary days in London.
Will I be back – certainly. Will I fish with Redrum - definitely.

Best Wishes

Greg"

We applaud Mr. Mutch for showing us what it is really like to be a true passionate fisherman!
Cheers,
Luis

September 15th Fish Report

After spending most of last week locked up inside our houses due to the tropical storm that cruised over Baja the boys have been fishing with vengence!

The weekend was excellent for catching and releasing Stripe Marlin and Sailfish as well as Dorado.

Today was another one of those days. More Dorado than we can even vacuum seal in our office! Our good Redrum buddy Thomas "Chuck" Corley from Fort Worth, TX sent his dad down to fish with us today on El Nuevo. Chuck has had his own luck on El Nuevo, catching and releasing Stripe Marlin in the past. Mr. Corley came in and loaded up on more Dorado than he imagined! Him and his buddy Jerry Weber from TX caught and released over 10 Dorado and kept 10 nice Bulls for the freezer. Chuck should be expecting a couple of nice dinners with Mr. Corley and his fresh Dorado catch!

Mr. and Mrs. Content had a killer day with Cesar too. Tantrum got them hooked into 7 Dorado as well as 6 Yellowfin Tuna! Great day!!

Mr. Assenza came down withhis group and had a home run day with Javier and Americo on Rum Runnin. They were able to clean up on Dorado as well, each of the 5 of them were able to catch 3 Dorado! They will definately be taking home a full ice chest! To add to that, Americo also hooked them into 2 Stripe Marlin releases.

Mr. Breadon and his crew from Oregon fished their first of two days with us today. They were lucky to fish with Omar and Manuel on Reel Rum. They had 2 Sailfish hooked but unfortunately got off as well, but caught plenty of Dorado to keep them busy all day! They head out again tomorrow with Omar to see if they can repeat the day.

Keep up the great job Team Redrum!

GO COWBOYS!!!

September 6th Report

El Nuevo and Tantrum headed out today as the only 2 boats to fish for Redrum. They both had very good days fishing the close to shore up near Golden Gate.

Lois Friedman brought her family and friends down from the Washington area to fish with Alex on El Nuevo. They had a great (although hot!) time catching 4 Dorado as well as a monster Sailfish, the fish was a tad over 105" long!

Kirk Stradley, Rich Gough, and Samy Gough fished with Raymond and Tantrum today. Cesar is still being lazy - taking his one week vacation! He calls me everyday to see how well his boat did and is excited about comming back next week! Anyways, the boat continued her ways catching 4 Dorado, 2 Yellowfin Tuna, and a Sailfish! Great job guys and "pat-on-the-back" to the crew.

Off to watch some college football!

GO FROGS!!!

NFL kickoff tomorrow as well!

This may get me fired but... GO COWBOYS!!!

For the other 99.9% of the Redrum Team...GO PATS!!

September 5th Report- CCA meets El Nuevo!

Alex and Ramon were happy to fish with Whitney Thomas and her family. The group from the Coastal Conservation Association of Texas won a couple of days fishing with Alex and El Nuevo and started off on a great note today.

On their first day of fishing the group was able to land 3 nice Dorado and a Stripe Marlin that measured 107" weighing an estimated 180-190 pounds. Great way to start off your trip.

The Thomas' will head out again on Sunday to see if they can out-do day 1. Alex was up for the challenge!

Thank you to all the members of CCA for thier role in Coastal Conservation.

TGIF! Enjoy the weekend folks!

September 3rd Report - Dorado Everywhere

Operation: Rooster, Sail, and Dorado!
Ron Kilgarlin and his wife Shawn had a great day on Utopia today. I spoke with Mr. Kilgarlin yesterday afternoon regarding his charter. He told me his gameplan was to catch head out early to try to catch some Roosterfish inshore around the Arch. After that he wanted to head out looking for a Sailfish for his wife, she wanted one bad! Their last goal was to land some Dorado for dinner for the next couple of days. Outcome: Rene and Raymond went to work. I told them of Mr. Kilgarlin's gameplan they talked about it for a minute and agreed to it. So, before sunrise they were already out past the Arch getting the gear ready for the Rooster. Sure enough, within minutes they were already hooked into a few of them. Mission Accomplished. Than they headed out towards Golden Gate where they were going to try their hand at the illusive Sailfish for Shawn. As luck would have it for the Kilgarlin, they landed a 100", 125-130 pound Pacific Sailfish! The boys got it measured and they were able to release! Great job. Naturally a boat full of Dorado followed as they are everywhere right now!! Congrats on the excellent day gang!

Next we had Omar and Reel Rum. Mr. Gibbs brought along his 2 buddies for thier first fishing experience in Cabo! They could not have had a better day. As soon as Jesus threw the lures out early in the morning they hooked into a Sailfish double! The Sails put up a good fight and took great concentration from Omar. It is very difficult to get both fish to the boat during a double hook-up. They tend to run in different directions making it hard for the Captain to turn the boat either way. On her way towards Golden Gate she was able to pick up about 7 Dorado for the group. Once they got to Golden they were able to spot a basking Stripe Marlin, pitch bait to it, catch it and release it. Great Day Gentlemen!

Rum Runnin also had a great day catching plenty of Dorado with the Kaser group. Mr. Oscar Blomgren from Chicago headed out with Marshall on Tantrum today and had a great day picking up a few Dorado to throw into the freezer at the Redrum office. One was of pretty good size, about a 50" Bull. As if we don't already have enough in here! Dustin Hanson fished on El Nuevo with Ramon and Slim, he bagged a 55" Dorado that is soon going to be sitting on his mantle at his home in Texas! He is also heading out again tomorrow to see if he can catch and release a Stripe Marlin with Alex and Slim. Hopefully he can get it done in 5 hour trip!!

I'll keep you guys posted.

Hasta Manana.

September 2nd Report

This morning El Nuevo and Tantrum headed out to pick up from where they left off yesterday. Both of the boats did extremely well today just as they did yesterday.

Aaron Martens, Brent Chapman and Steve Van Nievwenhuyse headed out on El Nuevo with Alex and Slim. The guys are professional Bass fisherman and wanted to test their hand offshore for a change. They did very well catching and releasing a Stripe Marlin as well as 12 Dorado.

Raymond headed out on Tantrum once again. This time with Tammy Davis and her husband. They also did very well catching and releasing a big Sailfish and a Stripe Marlin. They tore it up on the Dorado as well, were able to catch 12 Dorado as well.

The Dorado bite is going off right past The Arch all the way up to Golden Gate. If you are interested in hooking in the Mahi give me a call and come our way!!!

Tight Lines.

September 1st Report

September is here and we started off the month with a bang!

Alex took Mr. Jeff Kilpatrick and his wife out for their 2nd day of fishing today. Mr. Kilpatrick opted to fish the Sea of Cortez side today as it was something he has never done before in his years of fishing Cabo. The bite was a little slow, a Blue Marlin struck the line, and a Sailfish hit happend early as well. They were able to catch and release a fairly large Sailfish before everything was said and done.

Javier had a great first day back from his one week vacation. He and Americo headed out on Rum Runnin and tore it up. Aaron Barthel and his friends from South Carolina did a great job catching heaps of Tuna and Dorado. They will have plenty for dinner tonight and than some!! Great job guy.

Ron Kilgarlin and his wife, Shawn did just as well on Utopia with Rene and Raymond. They were in and out of yellowfin and Dorado all day and had a very good time on the beautiful boat. They are going to try their hand again with Rene to see if they can land a nice billfish for Mrs. Kilgarlin! I will let you guys know how that goes on Wednesday!

Kyle Park and Lindsay Campbell headed out on Tantrum today with Omar and Jesus. Omar and Jesus hoped on Tantrum since Cesar took his day off today and Raymond was fishing on Utopia. The boat followed suit like the other boats today and caught 8 Dorado. Kyle was also able to catch and release a Sailfish. Good job guys.

3 boats heading out tomorrow. I will keep everyone posted!

Remember, comments are welcome!!
