Playing Catch(up)

Let's try to get you guys caught up on the latest and greatest in and around Cabo waters the past few days. First of all, my theory that everything is happening a month late this year is really proving itself. It is December and we still are seeing Big Big Marlin being caught. We had a Blue that was in the 300-400lb range this week and a local boat caught a whopper over 800lbs the other day. We are seeing more and more Marlin every day, and as soon as the candy (mackeral) arrive the Striped Marlin frenzy will be back on. Those of you that heard about, or got the chance to fish Cabo last year in November and December will have your shot again this year. I have a feeling it is going to be late December, January and Febuary though. We are just now seeing the water temps cool down and bit, and this could be a great indicator of the fantastic Billfishing to come.

Ed Dodds and his crew from Delaware were down for a few days of fun and relaxation, escaping the winter of the northeast and spent two days with us on the water. Day 1 the guys fished with Kilito and Cesar aboard the RedBeam and had a blast. They got the Marlin to bite and were able to catch and release 3 nice Stripers. The crew also put them on the Dorado, of which they also got 3. Day 2 the guys fished with Ramon and Manuel aboard El Nuevo RedRum and while they didn't have the same success as day 1, but they did land a few Mahi's.

Hugh and Shara-Lynne from Lloydminster, Alberta Canada fished aboard El Nuevo on Sunday and had a heck of a day. We are really getting in to a great time of year with the mixed bag that is out there right now. 3-4 species in a day is not uncommon right now and that is a ton of fun for anglers. Shara and Hugh witnessed this first hand with a 9ft Striped Marlin release, a boated Wahoo that went close to 60lbs and 3 Dorado. Killer day guys, we are stoked for you.

Robert and Kindra Ross from Framingham, Massachusetts are down in Cabo for a week and are spending 3 days on the water with us. Robert has been getting a workout on the water, each day coming back and claiming that his arms were burning. I imagine they are, many people forget about all the muscles you use when fighting a Marlin and also forget that they haven't used those muscles in a while. Robert has caught and released 4 Marlin over the first two days and a bunch of Dorado as well. Maybe some Tuna or Wahoo on day 3 guys?

Jeff and Patti Kaser enjoyed their first of two days on the water yesterday with Captain Javier aboard Rum Runnin. After catching and releasing a Marlin, Javier was able to find the Dorado for Jeff and Patti as well. The Kaser's will be back on the 7th for their second day and may find that things look a little different on Rum Runnin. This morning we pulled her out of the water to apply a fresh coat of bottom paint and touch up a few spots where Marlin bills had done a number on the gelcoat. You have to remember, these boats take a beating down here, fishing as hard as we do, as many days a year as we do. That being said, we always do our best to keep everything in as best shape as possible.
