End of July Wrap-Up

A bit overcast today and yesterday in Cabo, and a few sprinkles made their way to the ground. Even a wicked lighting storm out by the airport mid afternoon yesterday, but none of it stopped the fish from biting. The seas sitting at about 78 - 80 degrees Fahrenheit with the wind whipping up a bit here and there. And yes its still hot, but good news, air-conditioning in the RedRum Office is here and will be be working soon!

Joseph Shu and his wife headed out yesterday on ReelRum with Omar and Americo. They went about 12 miles out and got into some Tuna, they rounded 1 up before the Mrs. got sick and headed back in. Day two, flying wifelessly solo Mr. Shu headed out again with Omar and Americo hoping for a better and longer day. He had his hands full as they headed out to the Golden Gate and all those feather lures pulled in 7 tuna. This time he had to reel them in on his own. Great days on the water!

El Nuevo headed out with Mike Poynter, Mike Byerly and Tyler Byerly on the 3oth. They headed towards Jimmy Bank and had a hell of a day out there. Catching 12 Tuna on feather lures and catching and releasing 2 striped Marlin on live bait, they all came back smiling.

Lee Iver and Brent Barker from Thibodaux, Louisiana headed out on RumRunnin on the 30th with Chivo and Mickey. They went out to the lighthouse about 8 miles out in hope of catching something. They hit it big, catching and releasing 4 striped Marlin, 4 Tuna between 15-20 pounds on feather lures and a Wahoo of about 20 pounds. Nice job out there gentlemen.

Heading out on the 30th and 31st is Joey & Annie Minville from Louisiana. They were on the Beam both days with Marshall and yesterday reeled in a nice 40 pound Tuna. They enjoyed a nice dinner at Misiones de Kino with some killer tuna sashimi. Joey had his heart set on Marlin. So today rolled around and he had high hopes of a good day, and as luck would have it, they had a phenomenal day. The first two Striped Marlin they caught were on a double hook-up out at Golden Gate. As Annie was fighting her Marlin asking for Joey’s help, his reel went off and Annie was on her own. They ended up fighting about 7 Marlin, lost 3 but brought 4 to the boat to release them. They caught 1 Tuna and 2 Dorado. They just can’t get enough of Misiones de Kino, so will be heading back for more!

We’ve got another fun, crazy group of people staying up in the Portofino Condos again. All hailing from South Texas, they were excited to come down on their Stay & Play trip they purchased through CCA. Donna & Mike, Mark & Vickie, and Glen & Vicky were itching to get on the water and catch them so dinner. They did some planning ahead to have a chef come up to the condos to cook their catch for them, but they needed to catch something first, so the pressure was on for Captain Alex and Mate Ramon aboard El Nuevo today. They first headed out to Jimmy Bank and then towards Golden Gate where they ran into some porpoise about 5 miles out, and that’s where they hit it. They caught dinner! Eight Tunas between 25-40 lbs. sounds like a good fresh dinner to me! I’m sure Chef Luz Maria will cook them up a nice Tuna Surprise. Can't wait to hear about it, they'll be back on the water on Sunday, this time for Marlin.

Mark along with his sons Jimmy and Matthew from Dublin, Ohio headed out with Anzuelo II today. They spent a lot of time fighting Marlin out there near Golden Gate at Migrino, and Matthew ended up pulling one in on his own, and releasing it after the fight of course. He was stoked to have fought the monster fish all on his own. Well done, can’t wait to see the pictures.

And another father and son trio, Steve Kato and his two sons from Houston headed out on RumRunnin this morning with Chivo and Mickey. The two boys were looking a bit tired this morning, but came back with full smiles in the afternoon after the sleep had worn off and the excitement of fishing had hit them. Steve, Kyle and Cameron all together caught 4 Tuna and 3 Striped Marlin that they caught and released. They’ve got a cooler in the back ready to take their vacuum sealed and frozen catch back home with them to Houston.

Thanks for checking in, hasta agosto.
