Weekend Fish Report

Scott and his friend David from San Antonio Texas went out with Captain Omar yesterday on our 28’ ReelRum. They headed west to Golden Gate and caught 7 Dorado that weighed between thirty and forty pounds.

Tom (aka Tyrone), Greg, Greg and Steven from Minnesota went out for the second time this week but this tie on our 32’ RumRunnin with Captain Javier and Mate Manuel. When I asked them how it went, they said they “were like kids on Christmas morning”. They caught 4 Tuna using live bait just 12 miles offshore at the lighthouse on the Pacific side. They caught big ones, weighing 100, 80, 60 and 30 pounds which they picked up this morning, vacuum sealed and almost frozen, to take home with them.

The Gomez group went out on our 32’ RedBeam with Captain Marcial and Mate Fabian yesterday. They caught 2 Tuna, an eighty pounder as well as another around 55 pounds using live bait. They also caught a Dorado which they released at the lighthouse point just seven miles from shore.

The Culpepper/Martin group from Corpus Christi, Texas went out on a 44’ partner boat yesterday and today. Yesterday they caught 4 Tuna weighing between fifteen and thirty pounds and a Dorado which they took home for dinner that night. Today they caught sixty pound Tuna just twenty minutes after leaving the Marina, followed by a 30 pound Bull Dorado and another 10 pound Dorado, all on the Pacific side.

Eric and his wife Marry-Ellen from Chicago went out today on our 33’ El Nuevo with Captain Alex and Mate Ramon. They checked-in a bit late this morning citing the tequila tasting they went to last night and came back after their long day looking fully recovered. Out by point 95 of the pacific side they caught 2 thirty pound Tuna and 3 thirty pound Dorado, two of which they released. They used live bait and feather lures. When I asked them how their day had gone, Eric replied: “If it were that easy it wouldn’t be called fishing”. What a sport. They caught their “dinner” within the first hour and proceeded to search for Marlin. They spotted a few but they didn’t want to bite. Before leaving the office and after purchasing a RedRum t-shirt or hat for everyone in their extended family, they wanted me to know that their crew was great and that we will definitely be seeing them next time they come to Cabo.

Ryan Donovan, aka Donny, aka Picoso, went out today with his buddies Gonzalo, Jerome and Marcial on our 32’ RumRunnin with Captain Javier and Mate Manuel. Picoso (translation, Spicy) spent a lot of the time on the tower with Captain Javier looking for fish while Jerome and Marcial napped off their hangovers. Ryan insisted on using the spread bar and just when they were about to switch it out, a 40 pound Tuna hooked up. Ryan and Gonzalo jumped in the water to swim with the big one before they ended his sweet life. Gonazalo, being a world famous, professional, aquatic photographer got some good shots in the water which we will post as soon as they’re back from the dark room. They also caught a small twenty pound Dorado. And finally, while Ryan was looking into the expanse of the sea and sky, most likely after quite a few cervezas and a few too many hours of sun, he came up with an updated RedRum saying (not yet authorized by John “El Jefe” Donovan): “Do you like to fish, or just catch fish”. You’re going to have to ask him about this one. Just another philosophical moment at RedRum, ladies and gents.

Another great weekend. What are you waiting for???
