January 30th

Today was another crazy day out at the Gate.

My good friend John Steen from Houston was here with his girlfriends family. John and Robert caught really nice Striped Marlin. John one upped his buddy Robert with a 200lb bruiser. Apparently John hasn't been working out lately, as it took him over an hour to bring the fish to the boat. Almost respectable. Very nice fish indeed though. Hope to see you guys back in Cabo soon.

On ReelRum was the Hutton party. The two couples were all excited after the day of fishing in which each of the guys was able to catch and release a Marlin. They were heading back to the Riu to catch a shower and drink after a great day on the water.

Cecilia, your breaking my heart....

Today we had our good friend Cecelia, along with 4 of her girlfriends, from Montana fishing with us. They only wanted to fish for a few hours, but they got lucky with a few Dorado and real nice Roosterfish that the girls hooked themselves! We met Cecilia a few years ago at Rips Bar and she has been back each year, always ready for another great adventure with RedRum. One of these days we will get to her neck of the woods for the Elk Hunt she has promised us.

On ReelRum, we had Harold from Pennsylvania, along with the Biro crew from Kansas had a great day on ReelRum with Ramon and Americo. They saw and hooked a bunch of marlin and were able to catch and release 2 of them.

Sorry no tales of strippers today...

Until tomorrow.

January 28th -- More Stripers!

Now I should start by saying that, yes I'm new to writing the fish report and although I won the spelling bee in 3rd grade, I tend to misspell a number of words from time to time.

As was brought to my attention yesterday, by our dear friend Louie, I've been calling what has been caught on our boats, strippers. Now this is where I pause, clearly all of you must have been getting a chuckle because we don't catch strippers in Cabo unless you are at Mermaid's or Lord Black, am I right? Based on my reports did some of you mistakenly imagine that by fishing with RedRum, magically a pole dancer would appear at the end of your rod? No pun intended. Sorry for the high hopes guys. I'm sure some of you have noticed this, but haven't said anything, thanks for being polite. So my apologies, we haven't been catching strippers, we've been catching stripers, meaning striped marlin. Which brings me to today...

Again heading out to Golden Gate is Andy and his lovely wife aboard ReelRum with Omar and Americo. The midwestern pair got out of the cold of Illinois and came down to Cabo for some nice weather. The 3 striped marlin they reeled in put up a fight.

The second crew that headed out was Diane and Chuck with Javier on RumRunnin. They too hit Golden Gate and had some success with the stipers. Reeling in 3 total it has been a wonderful vacation after purchasing a time share over at Villa Del Arco. We look forward to seeing you guys from years to come!

Signing out... Brooke
Long live stripers!

January 27th - Marlin Offshore - Sierra Inshore

With sunny skies and happy faces the boats headed out to Golden Gate this morning to what has been a continously strong stripped marlin bite.

Aboard ReelRum was the Ellison couple from Idaho, originally from southern Cal along with the Davis party 2 gentleman from central Califonia. They headed out to Golden Gate with Omar and Americo and got into some stipped marlin as well as some tuna. The Ellison couple brought in the 30 lb. yellow fin and had it fileted up for dinner at Misiones de Kino this evening, our favorite spot as many of you know.

RumRunnin also headed out to Golden Gate with the Schafer group down with a big group from California. They ideally wanted to catch dinner for the whole 15 person crew and they nailed it on their way back in from Golden Gate with about 8 sierra, they really weren't sure as they had 3 on at a time. While at Golden Gate they got into a bunch of strippers, just watching them boiling at the surface, after loosing 2 they got 2 aboard for the picture and the release.

And last but not least is the crew from Indiana aboard the RedBeam. They too headed out to Golden Gate to get some marlin. On their annual guys trip with buddies from their heating and air conditioning company they had a blast on the water. With smiles all around 2 marlin were reeled in with memories to last a lifetime.

Don't forget to send us some pictures of your day on the water guys!

I'm back! Brooke

Roosters, Marlin and Shark

Hola Hola... Another good day for RedRum Anglers, Marlin are getting a little picky about which bait looks the best but the crews that went to Golden Gate still had success. The Schultz Party on ReelRum wanted to take a shot at catching a Roosterfish, so Omar and Americo headed for the lighthouse with some extra bait and were able to nab three of them. After the Rooster bite slowed down, the Schultz's headed back out to Golden to top off the trip with 3 more Marlin.

Rum Runnin was a share boat today between the Neil and Brown parties. They had some trouble keeping fish hooked throughout the day, but were fortunate enough to bring one big Marlin to the back of the boat for pics and a close up for those who had never seen one before.

The Harpine's on the RedBeam had a great day as well. While they also lost a few Marlin along the way, they had one great big Marlin mounted as well as a really nice Dorado they kept for dinner.

Until tomorrow....

Jan 23-24

Marlin were still going crazy yesterday at Golden Gate while the bite slowed a little today. It would be hard to think that kind of bite would stay as hot as it has been. We'll see though, the Marlin could be all over the place again tomorrow. Tough to say.

Yesterday, the Shultz's aboard ReelRum caught and released 3 Marlin with Omar and Americo. Lonnie Poole and his crew brought in 6 Marlin aboard Rum Runnin with Javier and Manuel and called back to book another day after seeing the amazing action at the Bank. Finally, our friend from Texas and South Africa the Crawfords spent one last day on the water and were able to bring in and release 3 more stripes.

Today, Helmut, Brian and Brent Adam headed back out with the Rum Runnin' crew. They went in search of dinner and came up short, no Dorado to be found. After realizing the bite would be slow for Dorado they went in search of the Marlin. They were able to bring in 1 more for a total of 7 for the 2 days. Good stuff guys, and thanks again for taking us out to dinner. Really enjoyed hosting you guys. Looks like you have Helmut's Cristmas gift picked out for the next few years.

Finally, the Vanzile crew spent today inshore after catching their share of Marlin and Dorado the past few trips. Today they managed to catch about 18 Spanish Mackeral or Sierra as we call them, releasing half and keeping the rest for dinner. They were also able to land 3 Roosterfish. Great meeting you guys and look forward to seeing you guys and a few of your friends from Brewski's next year.

To the crew at Brewski's....

RedRum Sportfishing in Cabo San Lucas wanted to give you guys a special shout out. JC, Philly, Stan, Booby Z, Mike, Amy, and Sam in particular. Your boys down in Cabo, have been killing it the last few days. 5 Marlin and 2 dorado each of the two days they went offshore. And then today they tried a little inshore fishing. 9 Spanish Mackeral and 3 Roosterfish later and we are ready to send these guys home.

Final trip statistics:
4 guys, 8 cases of beer, 5 bottles of booze, 10 Marlin, 4 Dorado, 9 Spanish Mackeral, and 3 Roosterfish, 1 case of Montezuma's Revenge, and finally 1 case of a birthday boy just too tuckered out to even make it to his own birthday dinner. Let's hope the Brewski's crew can give him some proper sh*t for that when he gets back home.

Ahhh hamburgers, love Butters!

Golden is Golden

Brian and Brent Adam, my good friends from Wisconsin, bought their dad a fishing getaway for Christmas, and today Helmut Adam cashed in. The boys were a little confused why we didn't need to drill through 18 inches of ice before we started fishing but they caught on quickly. They hooked in 6 Marlin, bringing 5 to the boat. On the way back they were nice enough to catch a Dorado for dinner for all of us.

The Vanzile boys also caught and released their share of Marlin today, and were also lucky enough to grab a Dorado for dinner. Looks like it will be a busy night at Missiones de Kino.

Finally, the Quinn party from Massachusetts, had a great day on the RedBeam bringing 3 marlin to the boat for photos and a release.

Until tomorrow....

Marlin, Marlin, Marlin,Marlin,Marlin, and a Mako

Today the bite was once again ridiculous at Golden Gate. Marlin were all over the place with most boats bringing in multiple Marlin. Sea Lions, Whales, Porpoise, Pelicans and Frigates were right along side the Marlin in their quest for a meal. Green-back Mackeral were all over the place and a feeding frenzy once again took place.

The De la Rosa party from Texas got worn out bringing in 5 Marlin. They walked into the office and stated they were ready to book again for next year! They couldn't believe the action.

The Crawfords also from Texas, brought there good friends and Professional Hunters from South Africa to try there luck at some of what Baja has to offer. They were able to hook 5 Marlin and bring 2 to the boat. Tomorrow they will get after it again, they have a few more fish to catch.

Charlie Morrison and his pals headed out on the Red Beam and got worn out with 3 Marlin and a nice little Mako shark. Apparently, the Mako swam right to the boat, realized what was happening and then made a bee-line for freedom, after a 200 yard run the shark was able to rid itself of the hook.

The Cook's on ReelRum may have taken the cake for today. 7 Marlin back by 1pm. Enough said!!

January 20th

Sorry to rub it in you guys, but it is hot in our office and in Cabo! I know many of you are wrapped up in gloves, scarves and ear muffs, but here in Cabo its mid 80s and unseasonally hot. Which means a great time for fishing, so come on down.

Rolling out of bed this morning, with probably a hangover for each of them after tearing up the town for their first night in Cabo is the Vanzile party. These 4 guys fresh from the east coast and ready for some fun and fishing arrived yesterday for the Stay & Play package with 3 days of fishing and some nights at the Portofino Condos. Glen, Mike, Jack and Mark a.k.a Stump, so I've learned had a marlin each today along with a dorado for dinner. The only complaint that Glen had was that they were exhausted from reeling so many in. These are the guys that had me stock their fridge with 8 cases of beer and 5 bottles of liquor for 5 days! I mean who drinks that much?!? They do. They headed out bright and early despite their hangovers with Omar on ReelRum. All the way out to Golden Gate is where they caught their marlin, 100s are jumping in the water right now. Perfect gentlemen with east coast accents. Nice job guys, we'll see you on Thursday.

The Steve Duo headed out early this morning aboard RumRunnin with Javier a.k.a "Chivo". Also fishing at Golden Gate, The Steves reeled in 5 catch and release marlins and 1 dorado for dinner as well. They too are coming back for a second show down with the sea on Thursday.

Well done everyone.
Happy New President Day
Brooke

January 16th

Winding down the week for Friday January 16th, another cloudless sky in Cabo with sunny and warm weather. For all you folks wrapped up in your ear muffs and mittens, this is the place you should be, Cabo San Lucas. And the fishing isn't too bad either.

Heading out for a half day trip aboard RumRunnin, the Larson clan from Austin, Texas as well as Steamboat Springs, Colorado cleaned up with one beautiful sailfish. With the half day trip they headed out to the Lighthouse. They'll remember it forever with the great mount they'll put on their wall.

Another half day trip headed out to the Lighthouse aboard RedBeam is the Medlin group. With Captain Marcial they reeled in a good size stripped marlin.

On a full day trip was a partying, exciting and ready to fish group from New York. These guys heading down for a big birthday bash, were ready to catch some fish! And boy did they nail it with 11 marlin caught out at Golden Gate. Very well done guys. We hope you are having a great birthday celebration down in Cabo Sal!

And last but not least is the Bartak couple, very dear to my heart, coming from the heartland of Nebraska, my birthplace as well. They nailed it with Omar and Americo, with 5 marlin fishing out at Golden Gate as well. They had many more hooked up, but 5 of the marlin made it to the boat. For Joe Bartak, this was an absolutely amazing feat as this was the first time he had seen the ocean, let alone what lives in it! We look forward to you sending us in those pictures.

That's all until tomorrow, have a great weekend everyone. I'm off to drink some vino with the ladies. Brooke

January 15th

Another beautiful day here in Cabo. Cloudless skies with the temp in the upper 70s. Carl & Bill came down to Cabo to enjoy some fishing, and although their wives decided not to come along, they had a great day on the water. Being from Missouri, its hard not to enjoy the weather in Cabo, while the midwest is blanketed in snow and freezing, those on the water enjoy the sun and sea. They headed out to the lighthouse also known as "El Faro" for all you Spanish speakers out there. The bite has been very hot out there lately, with a shorter commute, it means more time at the fishing grounds. Carl & Bill were excited with their stripped marlin they brought in. Nice work gentleman, we hope to see you down here next year!

January 13th

I may be backing off my belief on this whole "Full Moon = Bad Fishing" deal.
ReelRum and Rum Runnin each had solid days on the water today.

Our good friends from Swift Current, Saskatchewan Rod Smith, Mark Andres and Kelly Knudsen had a fabulous day on the water. They caught and released 3 Marlin, while losing 3 more and they managed a nice Dorado for the dinner table. See you next year guys!

The Houghston group led the day however, on Rum Runnin. They were able to bring in 2 nice Dorado while catching and releasing 4 Marlin.

Can't wait to see what tomorrow might bring!

Good to be back in Cabo

January 9th, 10th and 11th

Don't let the full moon fool you! The fishing has been off the hook, no pun intended, the last few days. Although the fishing tale says that you can't catch fish on a full moon, well check out what's been biting the last few days and see if you are still a believer in that myth.

So here is the scoop on the latest and greatest that Cabo waters has offered those fishing with RedRum during full moon phase. The past few days we've been blessed with such fun, happy and easy going fisherpeople. Thanks guys for fishing with RedRum.

On Friday the 9th, sunny skies graced us once again and the boats headed out for "El Faro" also known as The Lighthouse. Bill aboard RumRunnin headed out for a quick half day trip and happened upon 1 dorado and 1 mako shark! Wow, we don't see those too often. Mr. Gasky and son Will as always head out with their favorite panga Captain Carlos. They had plenty of dorado and rooster to take home for dinner that night.

On Saturday the 10th, ReelRum, headed out solo again with the Davalos from Philly. Nick and Greg along with grandfater Bob. They were a part of the Stay & Play package and had a great time at the Portofino Condos as well as time spent on the water. This was their second day fishing and boy did they nail it once again with 3 marlin, 2 dorado and 2 rooster. Very nice job gentleman, we hope you come back and see us!

And today, rounding off the weekend, was the Fryatt group from Wisconsin. A fun group of guys with a groom on board, first day of his married life by the way. They reeled in 4 marlin, 1 dorado and 1 hammerhead. The Hughston on day 1 of their 2 day fishing trip aboard RumRunnin reeled in 2 marlin and 2 dorado, plenty for dinner as well I'd imagine. And last but not least The Nally's, probably the 2 nicest people from Kansas and as excited as ever about that big marlin had a fantastic day on the water, reeling in 2 marlin and 3 dorado. The dorado just got vacuum sealed and is ready for frozen cooler travel back to the U.S. of A.

So being the only female and holding down the fort while the boys are out stirring up new business, I've been growing in my role, and have offically moved up to writing the fish report now and again. My name is Brooke by the way, so nice to meet all of you readers.

January 7th & January 8th

Wrapping up towards the end of the week another great 2 days on the water. With the water fully loaded with RedRum boats on the 7th & 8th the marlin and dorado turned up on the Pacific near Golden Gate.

The RedBeam headed out with a father daughter combo excited to hit the water and reeling in 3 marlin and 2 dorado on Wednesday. The Dellanina party aboard ReelRum reeled in 4 dorado and 2 marlin. The Deiter group a friendly and handsome group from South Dakota aboard El Nuevo reeled in their dinner with 4 dorado. Chivo captain of RumRunnin came back with 1 marlin and 1 dorado.

As Thursday kicked off this morning with sunny skies and excited fishermen, the fish were still to be found near Golden Gate. The Mumby group rolled out of bed a bit late, but still made it to the fishing grounds with plenty of time to fish, reeling in their 3 marlin. Mr. Coleman back fishing with us again, this time solo without his daughter catching his 1 dorado and 1 marlin and last but not least the big bang of the last 2 days is ReelRum with Captain Omar. A group of three from Philly, comprising of grandfather and 2 grandsons brought in a whopping 6 marlin to the boat. They had 9 on the line all together but managed to bring 6 of them in! Well done Davalos!

January 5th and 6th Fish Report

Another beautiful day on the waters surrounding Cabo San Lucas. Although yesterday had a little bit of rain in the morning and overcast it made for a good day fishing to kick off the New Year.

Dave Gladney along with his wife and daughter headed out with Javier aboard RumRunnin on the 5th. Despite the cloudy day, they managed to reel in 3 stripe marlin! One marlin, Dave says, weighing as much as 240 lbs. What a great job guys.

Today on the 6th the boats headed out with a bit of a chill in the morning but didn't stop RumRunnin once again to reel in 2 marlin with the Desmonds and RedBeam to knock out 2 dorado and 2 stripe marlin.

The fishing is still hot! We hope everyone is kicking of 2009 with a bite!

January 4th Update

Christmas cheer was still in the air when Dad, Brooke and I last visited our favorite sushi place Art & Sushi. The manager Miguel has always talked about how he would love to head our fishing some time. Well Dad made sure we stopped talking about it and made it happen. Miguel always takes very good care of us and our clients so we wanted to take good care of him in return. Miguel and his son (we have a soft spot for father and son fishing teams,) headed out on ReelRum with Omar on the house. They did a half day and caught and release a Striped Marlin and brought home a Dorado for dinner.

Javier and Cesar were the Captain and Mate team on Rum Runnin' for Ted Couch and Brett Haysen and they had a great day on the water as well. With the Pacific winds swirling this morning the boys decided to head up the Sea of Cortez and check on the warmer, calmer waters. The guys managed 4 nice Dorado and Ted and Brett are already cooking them up.

Charters are still available for the end of the week, give us a call and get on the water!

January 2nd

Marlin Marlin Marlin...

All the boys did great with Marlin today. Golden Gate is still holding tons of fish and people are really enjoying the diverse action with porpoise, whales and sea lions all over the place. El Nuevo had 8, Rum Runnin had 2, Beam had a few, and ReelRum is still fishing.

Gotta run home to take care of a sick wife, but more tomorrow.
