Kite Fishing is In

David and his wife Kelley went out today on our 32’ RumRunnin with Javier and Manuel. Using rapalla lures, David and Kelley caught 6 Sierra (Spanish mackerel) and 2 Bonito just a third of a mile from the sea of Cortez shoreline. Water temperatures were between 64 and 66 degrees.

Mike went solo on our 32’ RedBeam with Marcial and Fabian. His wife didn’t feel like fishing but he wasn’t going to let that keep him from getting on the water. They headed east on the sea of Cortez and caught 5 Roosterfish using live bait. After the fifth Rooster Mike wanted to try for a Dorado but instead started a fight with a Marlin, also using live bait. Mike won the fight but used good sportsmanship and released his opponent.

Back for their third and final day of fishing, the St. Martin group headed out to Gordo Banks on the sea of Cortez and caught a Marlin using live bait. All four friends caught a Marlin on this trip and we are especially happy for Pete who celebrated his 70th birthday catching his first Marlin ever. The guys went out on our 28’ ReelRum.

Out on our 33’ El Nuevo with Captain Alex and mate Ramon was the RedRum “Jefe”, John Donovan, his new friend Larry whom he met while sipping mojitos at our favorite restaurant Misiones de Kino, Tobey, Tammy and Chas. They started the trip with Tammy catching a small Dorado which they released after John gave the scared little guy a kiss. They continued on in their search for Marlin and after trolling for several hours trying a variety of spreads and pitching live bait to several Marlin, they decided to try out the kite. After only ten minutes of kite fishing with live bait they got a bite, and then another one. Tammy and Tobey were the lucky anglers that reeled these 160-180 pound babies in, snapped a picture and set them free. Tammy is now a legend at RedRum having been the first person to have caught a fish using our new kite system. Congrats Tammy!!!
