End May on a Great Note!!!

It is a good feeling to have 2 great days of fishing back to back! Although the winds are howling now it was dead calm all day.

Krista and Brit Balant were all set to fish on Reel Rum this morning. One problem, Omar could not figure out his live-well wasn't pumping water through it. Omar did not want to have to take his clients out if he could not assure live bait. With quick thinking he said "why don't I take Tantrum, Cesar doesn't have a charter today". Now, whether Omar just wanted to take Tantrum out or he was really having problems with his live well, we'll never know!! Anyways, it turned out to be a great day for the Balants as they were able to catch and release 5 Stripe Marlin and back a little before 2:00pm. We can't let Omar get used to Tantrum now!!

Javier had an excellent day himself fishing with Americo and the Budneys. After a little mishap on the boat and loosing a rod and reel the team quickly got back in the game and together Team Rum Runnin reeled in 4 Stripe Marlin. Three of the Marlin were able to be released. Great day!!

NHL star, Andy Sutton fished on El Nuevo this morning with his father. They headed out with Alex and Marshall and were able to catch and release 2 Stripe Marlin to start their day off. One of the Stripes put up a heck of a fight Andy told me while showing pictures of a Monster Stripe. To bring their excellent day to an end, they were able to catch a massive Pacific Sailfish. The pictures I saw looked like it weighed well over 115 pounds! Great Job, nice meeting you guys. Good Luck to you Andy.

Time to start looking foward to the great fishing in June...and the heat!!!

May 30th Catch Up Report

Wow!!! It's been a while since we have had a day like today! A couple of tough weeks dealing with strong winds made fishing a little difficult. The past couple of weeks the crews have been dealing with cold water all over the place. The Pacific has been no good with water temps and water conditions not agreeable to fish, and the Sea of Cortez even cooled down as cold as 68 at the "95 spot". There were a few Marlin caught here and there, along with a some Wahoo, and some Dorado that brought some good size with them.

Some notable catches this week have been:

Zoltan and Paula Kiss catching a Wahoo and 2 nice Stripe Marlin while fishing on El Nuevo.

Edward Hribar caught a nice Stripe Marlin to celebrate his 75th birthday on El Nuevo.

Greg Huber also caught a very nice 94" Stripe Marlin while fishing on Tantrum.

Vaughn Ford and his gang having a great time on Red Beam catching and releasing a beautiful Stripe Marlin.

Todays fish Report:

Taylor Woodruff and his wife came into my office this morning just ready for anything. They were the kind of client that does not really expect much but deep inside you can tell they want to have a really good day. The didn't ask what the fishing had been like or how many fish they were guranteed to catch! While walking down to the boat Mrs. Woodruff whispered quietly to me "he really wants a Marlin you know". I looked at her and told her I would make sure the boys tried their hardest to hook him up. Hook them up they did! By 11 o'clock this morning they had caught and released a Stripe Marlin, had one get off the line, and a double hook up with both Stripes to the boat. At the end of the day they caught and released 3 Stripe Marlin and- believe it or not- Mrs. Woodruff caught a 105", 180 pound Stripe Marlin for a trophy! "It always seems to end up like that" Taylor told me, "she always gets the biggest fish"! I think Mrs. Woodruff is the one who really wanted a Marlin!!! Congrats guys! Very nice to have met you two!

Dale Gajdenski took his 2 buddies out for a day of fishing on Rum Runnin with Javier and Americo. Comming from Alberta, Canada they probably don't get a chance to catch fish like this anywhere near by. The 3 of them had an excellent time catch and release 3 Stripe Marlin, one for each of the fellas and 5 Dorado. Javier told me he was fishing down near the 95 spot and everything was wide open. "One second Marlin, the next second a Dorado, another Marlin, and big Dorado. Like that all day long Luis, it was great" Javier explained to me in a very excited voice!

We hope the fishing keeps picking up as we think that the "windy season" has come to a stop. We are beginning to see warmer water that should move in that should be able to stay in and keep warming up from now until TOURNEY TIME!!!

If anyone is interested in fishing in any of the big or small tournaments in Cabo San Lucas pleasea contact us and you too can become a part of "Team Redrum"!

May 21st Fish Report

Well, the wind definately stuck around Cabo well into the night last night and all day today. Luckily for us it had no negative effects on the fishing today. This morning I asked Cesar if the wind was going to make it a problem to catch fish. He said to me "Luis, when you go swimming can you feel the wind when you are in the water?". I said, "no but when I get out it is really cold" which he answered to "if we get a fish out of the water it is usually for dinner and it won't be cold long!"

Todays report:

El Nuevo had an excellent day! Mr. and Mrs. Maze headed out with Alex and Juan today. Last time Mr. Maze went out with us he drank a 6 pack of beer early during the trip and as soon as he was done the boat began to catch fish. This morning when he got on the boat as any superstitous fisherman would do, drank his 6 cold beers for breakfast and as soon as he began to doze off, bam! Mr. Maze thought that he had hooked a Stripe Marlin but after a few minutes of his fight Alex and Juan knew it wasn't a Stripe. At the end of the fight, Mr. Maze had caught and released a well over 180 pound Blue Marlin. At the end of the day which didnt really seem to slow down after his 6 pack, he and his wife had addedt 1 Dorado and 2 Tuna to the catch! What a great day!

Omar and Jesus also had a great time fishing with Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Perry. They were able to catch 4 Dorado. One of the Dorado was well over 3 1/2 ft. and must have weighed over 50 pounds! We hope you guys had fun! Enjoy the fish!

The Siegler family headed out with Ramon and Americo on Rum Runnin today. After 2 hours on the boat without a bite Mr. Seigler began to get a little worried his little children would hold up alright. They did excellent and at the end of the day the Sieglers had caught 3 Dorado, caught and released a Sailfish and a Tuna!! Great job, and very impressed the little ones did so well!

Mr. Jason Thomas fished on Tantrum with Cesar and caught a nice Dorado.

If you sum it all up, it was a pretty great day for Redrum! Our anglers are the best around and are tough as nails! Nothing is going to stop them from going out and catching the big one!

May 20th Fish Report

With a full moon last night that seemed to have hung around until early morning I could tell todays anglers were a little weary of how they would fair.

Robert Roffe headed out on El Nuevo for his 3 day of fishing. Alex and Juan took care of him and hooked them into 3 nice Dorado, Juan also hooked him into a snapper while bottom fishing at Gorda Banks.

Randal Dees and his friend Charles Parks fished on Rum Runnin with Javier and Americo today. After getting a little later start they got to the fishing grounds and got at it. After a good day of trolling they were able to reel in 2 nice Dorado.

Matthew and Monica Hamura fished on the Red Beam today and hooked a Stripe Marlin and caught 2 Dorado. Manuel fished the same area as the other boats and was super excited when he saw that the Marlin finally opened up to take the live bait.

2 Dorado were brought up by Tantrum and the Wright party. While 1 Stripe Marlin was caught on Reel Rum by the Mosteller party.

It is always a good sign that the 2nd half of the fishing year is going to be good when we see Dorado in mid to late May. The ones we have been catching have mainly been nice Bull Dorado in the upper 20-30 pound class range. Some a lot bigger and some a tad smaller.

May 15th Fish Report

Hola Amigos!! Pretty solid day for fishing for the Redrum fleet today. All the boats headed to the Sea of Cortez side where the bite has been pretty consistant for Torro fish, Stripe Marlin, and some nice Dorado!

Our boys on Utopia headed out with Rene for a day of fishing on the beautiful Hatteras. John Blouin and his friends hooked up with 2 Stripe Marlin and were able to get one up to the boat.

Jaren Scott and his buddies rented out El Nuevo for the day and hooked into 3 Torro fish as well as a nice sized Stripe Marlin. Alex said the Marlin was just over 100", which is a great fish!

On their shared charter day, Martina and Keith Ouellette headed out with Chris Hall. They were able to split time reeling in a nice Stripe Marlin while fishing with Javier on Rum Runnin.

Brian and Pam Dewitt from Michigan fished on Red Beam today. Brian was interested in adding another trophy to his "wall of fame", one that already has a nice Sailfish, and a few other animals from Africa that I cannot even remember! He was able to add to the wall by catching a monster 101", 165 pound Stripe Marlin. It was the second Marlin of the day for he and his wife. Great fish and enjoy the trophy!!

Doug and Karen McMillan fished with Mr. Cesar on Tantrum today and had themselves a great time. "We would defiantely come back and fish with you guys again. We will tell all of our friends to come and see you guys", is what Karen told me when they got back. Cesar was able to hook them into 5 Torro's, 1 catch and release Marlin and a nice Dorado for dinner. A special shout out to all of the McMillan's friends who are checking out the report today. Your friends are safe, maybe a little buzzed from the cold Coronas and tired from fighting nice fish all day!
It was very nice meeting you guys and I hope to see you again in Cabo!

It was awesome meeting everyone that was able to fish with Redrum today. Great group of people! I look foward to meeting those comming up and hope the fish keep on biting!

Luis

May 13th Fish Report

The fishing finally picked up to a solid pace today after a couple of days of "slower" fishing. The boys have continued to fish on the Sea of Cortez side where the water has warmed up as much as to 75 degrees in some spots.

Red Beam fished with the Ganino Boys today and had a great time catching and releasing 2 Stripe Marlin. They were also able to get some meat for the day after catching a nice female Dorado.

Cesar fished with our good ol' friend Don Pammler today. I met Don last year and he has always been good about checking in and comming back to use us. He headed out with his lovely wife and son-in-law (both of them made it back!!). They were able to catch and release a Mako shark. They also hooked into a Sailfish and 2 Stripe Marlin but could not get them to stay on the hook long enough. Don's wife was able to catch 2 Dorado!

Omar headed out with Aki Pickens and her friend. They were the first boat back this afternoon after catching and releasing 2 nice Stripe Marlin on near Gorda Banks.

Ramon took out Rum Runnin today while Javier took his day off and did quite well. The Mr. White and his group headed out and caught and released a Jack Cravelle aka Torro fish. They also caught and released a Marlin and a Dorado for dinner!!

Let's Hope the fishing continues to get better as that is what we are expecting with the nice waters moving in from San Jose!

May 5th Fish Report

What a great day for Tuna!!

Mike Monks and his group ended on a great note after catching more Tuna than they could count! The boys came on a mission to fill their coolers and it looks like they are going to be cutting it pretty close! They fished 3 days on El Nuevo and each day proved to be better than the other. Tuna, Dorado and Marlin was some of the species that they were able to pull in during their stay with Redrum. Great job guys, it was awesome meeting all of you.

Our buddy Mr Henry Winslow brought his group (mostly family) in and they had a great time fishing on Rum Runnin, Tantrum, and Solmar III. They caught plenty of Tuna, some Dorado, and 3 Marlin. Cesar of course was the captain that was able to hook into Marlin! Cesar was suprised when they hooked into a baby Stripe Marlin that weighed just under 35 pounds. Very rarely do we see them that small, luckily he was able to catch and release it!

Darren Payne came in and fished with Manuel on Red Beam. They also hooked into plenty of Tuna as well as a nice trophy Dorado. The Bull Dorado measured 50 inches long and was well over 35 pounds in weight! Great catch Darren. It was a pleasure meeting you and your group. Enjoy your trophy!

Mr. and Mrs. Greer fished on ReelRum with Omar and Jesus. They were really wanting to catch a Stripe Marlin today but they were more than happy to settle with the action they got off catching Yellow fins Tuna!

Both the Payne and the Greers will be headed to dinner tonight to enjoy their freshly caught fish. They will not know what to think after Israel, owner of Misiones de Kino, presents them with a beautiful platter of fish!

Saludos,

Luis

May 2nd Fish Report

The 2nd day of May brought good fishing to all those who put their lines out with Redrum today!

This report is for Mrs. Gina Bowers!:
Mike Monks set up a trip for his buddies - Lee Hutchins, Mark Bowers, Bill Uhler, Jesse Constantino and Dino Cimno. They fished today with Alex and Juan on El Nuevo and are set to fish with them twice more next week. Today the group had a great day working the Billfish. The group from MD. was able to catch and release 4 Stripe Marlin on their 8 hour outing. The boys headed up the Sea of Cortez size, up Gordo Banks and caught their fish using live bait. They also wrestlef a Mako Shark on their way in this afternoon. I will be posting a picture of the gang tomorrow on the site (Rated PG-13)! Story to be continued...

Bruce Oren had his dream of catching a billfish come true today while fishing with Javier and Americo on Rum Runnin. He had never caught a Stripe Marlin before and Javier tried his best to make sure and get him hooked up. He was also able to catch 2 40+ pound Dorado after he spotted a floating piece of plank wood. Great job my friend!

Mr. Steve Cherry fished on Red Beam today with Cpt. Manuel and Mt. Marshall. They were able to catch and release 3 Stripe Marlin.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Berry fished with Cesar today and had a great time reeling in 3 Stripe Marlin as well. Mrs. Berry reeled in the first 2 by herself and swears that they were both bigger than Richards!!

Great job all around guys!

Luis
