Clients aboard RedRum boats found another trip out to the Sea of Cortez returned a lot of smiling faces with a consistent dorado bite. The water temperature is still sitting at about 71 degrees. First group back was Todd and father Tom aboard ReelRum. They headed out to the Sea of Cortez in front of the Palmilla. The crews were switched around due to Omar and Americo having the day off, so Ramon captained the boat while Americo’s dad Juan Carlos was first mate. They reeled in 2 dorados about 20-25 lbs and lost 3 in the fight. They also reeled in and released about 10 skip jacks. They saved some of the fish to take home and will be returning to Misiones de Kino as they remember from last year how good their fish tastes when Israel cooks it up there.

Next group back was with Marcial aboard the RedBeam. They headed out to the same fishing grounds as ReelRum. All aboard was Gord, Tom and Greg & Tracey. We were able to pair the 3 groups up using our share board and today was the day that worked out best for them to fish. Between the 4 of them they reeled in 7 dorado! They said they saw a lot of whales still out their breaching as well as schools of dolphins. I was psyched at the amount of fish they reeled in as with share boats its good when everyone gets a chance at the action. Gord is saving some of his catch for dinner. Greg & Tracey are freezing their fish and taking it back home and Tom let them have his share. Well done you guys! We look forward to seeing the pics.

Now, while I stayed in the office working and slaving away at the desk, my husband Ryan and father-in-law John decided to take out El Nuevo and get in on some of the action. John flew down yesterday and surprised us for St. Patty’s Day, so we celebrated with lots of green beer last night at the Amigos de Los Ninos fundraiser. They headed out to the Sea of Cortez alongside the other boats. Here is Ryan’s report of their day:

On El Nuevo today we had a bit of a “fun day.” Our fleet manager George, mechanic Rene, along with Cesar, Americo, and Omar headed out with my dad and I. Dad was reading the fish report a few days ago and saw that Brooke and I were headed to a St. Patrick’s Day party for the Amigos de Los Ninos. Never one to miss a party or a charity function dad decided to make the trip down, without telling us. Yesterday we were working away here in the office and in walks dad. What a wonderful surprise! He announced that he wanted to do some fishing today and all the guys who weren’t heading out on other boats made it known that they wanted to fish with John today. Tacos and Beers were bought and good fun was had. We laughed and joked, and even did a bit of fishing. As you will read, the other RedRum boats did better than us, as we only brought in 2 Dorado and 1 Tuna. Regardless, we had blast! Thanks for surprising us Pops, it was great to see and fish with you!

Also heading out on the water was our partner boat Anzuelo II with Captain Rafa. My new found friends Paul and Nate from Iowa headed out with high hopes for catching dinner. They too hit up the Sea of Cortez in the calm seas. They were happy with 2 dorado that they will be taking home with them for a big fish fry with friends! It was wonderful to meet some other Midwest folks, I look forward to seeing your pictures and putting you up on the web.

Finally, heading out on Rum Runnin was Brian and Shawn Hoyer, Brian Trask and Jim Laffoon. The guys wanted to head out a little later than the normal 6:30am start because of a wedding event last night. Unfortunately, the late start did them wrong. They headed up to Golden Gate as the boats that went up there early had some luck. Sounds like by the time they got there they missed the majority of the bite. They were able to catch and release one striped Marlin, always nice to pull on something.

See you tomorrow! Brooke
