Cabo San Lucas is experiencing some beautiful clear skies and sunny weather at 79 degrees with some whipping winds coming in from the south at 12 mph. The RedRum boats are still heading out to the Sea of Cortez near the 1150 bank and Punta Gorda bank.
The first boat back was RumRunnin with Javier and Cesar as the mate today. The crew on board is one of my dearest friends down here in Cabo, Cindy McIntosh who just celebrated her 40th birthday! Her husband flew in some of her family and friends from Windsor and Penticton, Canada as a surprise so they joined her on board. Stan the Man, friend Lea, brother Darin and friend Gig. They headed out far about 25 miles to the 1150 bank as well as outside of Punta Gorda, which is where they encountered their action for the day. Cindy fought the 45-50 lb Dorado that was reeled in by a green and black lure. They had 8 huge filets to take with them that they are going to cook up and enjoy this evening! So proud of you, Cindy I’ll expect to see the pictures in my inbox soon.
Finally coming back at about 3:45 is ReelRum with Omar and Americo. The cute couple Rob and Violet from Pennsylvania headed out far on the Sea of Cortez. They had their heart set on catching marlin. Although we gave them a fair warning about going out that far could mean not catching anything at all, they wanted to go for it anyway, so 33 miles they went. However, this is one of the days where the odds were in their favor. All caught on live bait, they reeled in a nice sized Dorado, 5 Mako Sharks all catch and release and they almost got their 150 lb. striped marlin aboard, but lost it right at the boat. It was Miss. Violet that did the reeling on that monster. Congrats guys, that is a hell of a day out there.

Windy day today in Cabo...
Wind was blowing good and strong all day, making for a bumpy day on the water. But, as is usually the case, the fish didn't know the difference. We sent out 4 boats today, and when the boys got back this afternoon it looked like they all spread out a bit today. Alex headed North, Omar West, Javier South and Marshall went East. All the guys were successful and brought back happy clients.
Omar and Americo on ReelRum played host to Ron Milford and his son John. They headed out about 20 miles west in search of the warm water and calmer seas. After a bumpy ride out, they were soon on the fish. When it was said and done, Ron and John had two Trophy Striped Marlin. Ron's was a real bruiser measuring 107 inches and Omar estimated the weight at 230lbs. That has to be the biggest Stripe of the season. Congrats guys!
John and Sandra Maltry, long time RedRum clients had their boys out there with them today and they wanted to keep the action going to keep the boys entertained. They trolled north from the Lighthouse all the way to Los Arcos looking for the Yellowtail we found yesterday, to no avail (Yellowtail wise.) They were able to bring in a couple of Sierra and a nice AmberJack for the boys before heading a bit offshore. Once they got offshore they hooked up to Dorado two different times, but couldn't get them in the boat. Sounds like the boys still had a good day. Hope to see you back in Cabo soon.
Chad and Sarah from Austin, Texas were next and even though they came in to Horned Frog country wearing University of Texas gear we still did our best to get them on fish. Marshall was able to hook two nice Dorado for them and while they spotted 4 or 5 Marlin, they couldn't get them to bite. Nice meeting you folks.
Finally we had the Hopkin crew on Rum Runnnin. Javier and Manuel continued their hot streak and brought the Hopkins to where the fish were. They had a great day bringing in 2 nice Striped Marlin for release and bringing a Dorado on board. Enjoy those Dorado filets guys.

24 Miles out, 24 beers in a case, coincedence?
The RedRum boys once again found the fish, they were a ways out there, but we found them. With warmer water out 20 miles towards the Sea of Cortez, folks had a bit of ride before we got them on the fish. Still an abundance of squid in the water, candy for the fish. Nearly every Dorado belly has had squid in it over the past week or so.
Paul Mattingly, unfortunately was the unlucky angler today. Heading out with Omar and Americo, which is usually a good sign, was not super successful today. While they saw fish, and had some action, they couldn't get anything to stay on long enough to bring it to the boat.
Greg Trefethen, our east coast buddy, headed out one more time today(had to get one more day in.) Today's trip was an anniversary present from his wife. Congrats on 47 years guys. Greg got all he could handle panga fishing inshore. He caught 10 nice Yellowtail, keeping his limit and giving the meat to both the RedRum office staff and the crew. (Didn't I just talk about this yesterday?) Congrats on a great day, Greg,
Eric and Karen McKay headed out for a half-day adventure with Marshall on the RedBeam and it seemed like the fish started biting just as their half-day was coming to an end. They were able to land one nice Dorado and battle a Shark before they headed back to the Marina.
Laura and Charles Meyers, my dad's neighbors in California, and their friends James and David Cloonan, Randy Beasley and Jerry Banning were lucky enough to head out with Alex and Ramon on El Nuevo. While they too headed for the warm water and the Dorado that have been roaming the area, they were lucky enough to catch and release 2 Marlin. Congrats and thanks for coming down to visit us.
Finally, on Rum Runnin we had Steve Hanson and his crew of David, Mark and Ryan. Looks like each of the guys got to pull on a fish as Javier and Manuel were able to hook them up with One Marlin and Three Dorado. Dorado for dinner, always tasty!

Awesome day on the water for RedRum anglers...
Today was a fabulous day for RedRum, a little windy but that didn't stop the fish from biting. The crews headed out to the warm water they found 15-20 miles straight off the Arch and once again had great success. With an abundance of squid in the water, getting the fish to bite live bait or artificial lures has been a bit tricky but today we got the job done. Winds at 20k and water temps in the low 70's should stay the same for the next few days.
Omar was the first to return around 2pm with 3 Dorado for Harry and Jerry who were sharing the boat. Omar said he saw tons of Marlin but most were not interested in bait or lures, he had a little action from them but no hook-ups. Glad we could get you guys out there.
Ramon and Cesar were the next to make it back with Brant and Carol Pate and Lou, Robert and Jade Simmons aboard El Nuevo RedRum. The Aggieland crew did well with the Horned Frog company today boating 4 nice Dorado, two over 40 lbs. They also spotted a ton of Marlin but once again, they couldn't garner any interest. They are heading over to Misiones de Kino to get the filets cooked up. Have to say I am a bit jealous. (It is always in the best interest of "Fish Karma" to offer a filet or two to the office staff.)
Finally, the top awards for the day go to Javier and Manuel on Rum Runnin who fished with Andrew Fox, Brandon Martin, Mike Dwyer and Wendy Weiler. They too headed south 15-20 miles and trolled dead bait and artificial lures in Petrolero and Black and Red colors. They were able to land 4 nice Dorado and caught and released 2 nice Striped Marlin. Congrats guys, hope to see you back down here soon.

Mucho Viento...
Translation = a lot of wind.
Lots of wind on the water today and some interesting water temps as well. Alex and Omar on El Nuevo and ReelRum headed back to the Pacific today towards the Jaime Bank. 69 degree water was waiting for them and they both quickly headed south. Omar made a big loop to the south with Ryan Dick and Ericka Murphy. They cruised out almost 20 miles at one point and finally found some action. They got into a nice school of porpoise and found some TUNA. They weren't able to get too many bites, but they did succeed in bringing in the first Yellowfin of the year for RedRum anglers. Congrats guys, great stuff.
Alex on El Nuevo with the Upshaw party also made a turn towards the south and the warmer water and was able to find Dorado. Alex and Ramon are making quite a team and they were able to get 5 or 6 strikes throughout the day. The Upshaw crew was able to bring in one really nice Dorado and they fought with several others, one for more than 20 minutes before the fish spit the hook. Spent some time in the office with the crew after they got back and really enjoyed their company. Hope to see them back in Cabo soon.
Winds should die down a bit tomorrow. Hopefully we can find that school of porpoise again, and get those Dorado to stay on the line.

Dorado Saturday
It’s a great afternoon in Cabo San Lucas, the sun still shinning high in the sky awarding us with a temperature of 75 degrees and wind coming from the south east at 12 mph.
Playing out in the water for the second day in a row were George and Ron Powell along with two of their buddies. The vessel of the day was our 32’ RedBeam led by Captain Marcial and Mate Mu~neca (translation: doll? I’m still not sure why they call him that, maybe next week). They matched yesterday with another gorgeous Dorado. Besides catching dinner they got to do a bit of whale watching out on the sea of Cortez as well as spotting plenty of marlin (guess they weren’t hungry), dolphins and manta rays.
On our other 32’ RumRunnin, Captain Javier and Mate Mickey headed out to the sea of Cortez as well, parking in front of Cabo’s stunning Chileno bay known for the best snorkeling in the area. Hailing from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Scott Jones and his wife were out to catch a meal this morning and that they did, bringing in two more Dorado’s. Along the way they were visited by a mother whale and her calf and teased by a few marlins as well.
Stumbling in an hour or so after sunrise, and after the two other groups, was our bachelor party of eight. Heck, who can blame them. Unfortunately it seems that they weren’t the only ones with hangovers as the fish seemed to duck away into their own private havens. After a courageous attempt, the group decided to head back to dry land where the ground doesn’t move so much. At least they were well prepped for their day with cold beer!

Fish Filled Friday
Another clear and cloudless sunny day in Cabo San Lucas. The air temperature is sitting at 82 degrees Fahrenheit with a 16 mph wind coming from the South. Both boats in the RedRum fleet headed out to the Sea of Cortez where water temperature was at 74 degrees Fahreneheit.
The Rod and Krissie Schick along with Lana and Steve Davies and Ryan Nicholson headed out on RumRunnin this morning with Javier and Manuel. They are visiting us in Cabo from Seattle and Mukilteo, Washington. They cruised out to the Sea of Cortez where on their way they spotted a few Marlin at bank 95 on the surface. They immediately had one on after pitching some live bait. This happened at 7:20 am as Steve Davies told me and boom they reeled it in and released it. They couldn’t get the other ones to bite so they moved on. At the surface near the shore of Santa Maria beach they got into a ton of Dorado. They were able to catch 4 Dorado out of the 8 they had on line with dead bait and lures. They ‘re freezing some up here at the office and taking a few fillets to dinner as well. They were ecstatic at the service provided by Manuel and Javier. Kudos to the crew and great job out there guys, we look forward to posting the photos!

On board was Dan Hlavachek from Milwaukee, George Powell from New Hampshire, Andreas Klotz from Milwaukee and Ron Powell from Massachusetts. They too headed out to the Sea of Cortez with Alex and Ramon, on day 1 of their 2 day fishing adventure. They stayed out in front of Santa Maria, Palmilla and Cabo Real as well. They were fishing with dead bait as well and had up to 4 dorado on, but were only able to bring one to the boat. It seemed there were quite a few out there, just tough to get them on board. Well done guys, we’ll see you on the RedBeam tomorrow.
