Yellowtail, Sierra...and soon to be calamari
Martin went out on our 28’ ReelRum today with Captain Omar and mate Americo. They headed west on the Pacific side and caught 4 Sierra and 4 Yellowtail. The Sierra weighed around 8 pounds and the Yellowtail, 12 pounds. Fish were caught roughly a half mile from the shoreline where the water was 68 degrees.
John, “El Jefe”, went out on our 33’ El Nuevo with friends including Alonso and Ismael, best waiters at delicious Misiones de Kino, as well as Carlos, a highly-regarded and good to know, local police officer. All three were fishing for their very first time! Also trolling on the Pacific side by the lighthouse, about 200m from the shoreline, they caught a 3 ft Sierra, a 4 ft squid and a 200 pound Sunfish (catch and release) using Rapalla lures.
A slow day on the water but tons of fun.

Roosters and Yellowtail
Anthony went out for the second time this week on our 28’ ReelRum with Captain Omar and mate Americo. After catching his first Marlin yesterday, Anthony was ready for some Roosterfish. They headed out on the sea of Cortez where the water temperature was at 73 degrees and caught and released 5 Roosterfish and 1 Jack using live bait. Both Roosters weighed ten to fifteen pound.
Jack and Cheryl went out for their second time this week as well but this time on our 32’ RumRunnin with Javier and Manuel. They decided to focus on inshore fishing today and headed out on the Pacific side where the water was at 61 degrees. Using black and green Rappala lures, Jack and Cheryl caught 8 Yellowtail between ten to twenty pounds about a third of a mile from the shoreline.

Fish Report May 19-21st
It’s been a great week as always with clear, sunny skies and lots of Striped Marlin. Water temperature in the sea of Cortez has been between 74-75 degrees Fahrenheit.
TUESDAY MAY 19th
Steve and Judy from New Jersey went out on our 28’ ReelRum with Omar and Americo and caught their first Marlin ever. The Stivaly’s have mostly fished in the East Coast and were excited to have caught and released 2 Marlin and a Yellowtail that they enjoyed for dinner at Missiones de Kino. The first Marlin came in as 101 inches and the second at 106 inches. Judy got a blister from the fight but said it was well worth it.
Out on our 32’ Beam were Jack and Cheryl from California and our friend Matt that lives in Cabo. Matt took some time between spinning at local Buddha lounge to fish with us for his first time ever and got plenty on action out on the water. Jack and Cheryl are down for two weeks and will be fishing with us several days. With the help of Marcial and Fabian, the new friends caught and released 3 Marlin in the 140-180 pound range and a Dorado for dinner. Matt learned that sunblock is essential when fishing in Cabo San Lucas in May.
The Montvilles went out with Javier and Manuel on our 32’ RumRunnin. Heading out on the sea of Cortez they caught and released 4 Marlin.
Brad fished on our 33’ El Nuevo with Alex and Fabian and caught and released 2 Marlin.
WEDNESDAY MAY 20th
Brian and friends went out on our 32’ RumRunnin and caught and released 1 Marlin with the help of Captain Javier and mate Manuel.
THURSDAY MAY 21st
Anthony and Dawn from fished on our 28’ ReelRum with Captain Omar and mate Americo. They went looking for Marlin as Anthony has had lots of experience catching sails and Dorado in Florida where they live. There were no bananas on board and a nine foot Marlin they caught. There were plenty of others jumping by the boat, teasing poor Anthony but he’s back for more today and we’re cheering him on.
It’s always great when anglers arrive with a sense of humor in the early morning and the McDivitt’s had plenty. Vacationing with their two teenage daughters and their boyfriends, the McDivitt’s went out on our 32’ Rum Runnin with Javier and Manuel. They caught 4 Yellowtail which they enjoyed for dinner at Misiones de Kino.
Return trip w us, looking forward to seeing them again next year
Jim and friends went out on our 33’ El Nuevo with Alex and Fabian and had a great time. They caught and released 1 Marlin and enjoyed the performances of the sea life that they don’t get back home in Colorado. We hope to see you again next year guys!

Marlin Madness,
Well the marlin are back at the 95 and 1150 spot. Our friends Mr. Smith and two guest from DeSoto Tx. went out on Rum Runnin and came back with three C&R marlin, the nice thing was one was caught on live bait, one on a spreader bar and the other on squid lure. So you can see that having different options in the water can bring in the fish.
Our dock manager Jorge has some family friends go out on Red Beam and they also had three C&R marlin, all on live bait.
Steve Smyth and his crew from FL. were on board El Nuevo, they had a nice dorado at the boat before he got off, but did manage to get a nice stripe marlin C&R.

Sunday School
Hola,
Today was Sunday school for the crews of RedRum. Owner John Donovan arrived on Sat. with some new "kites" for yet another something new to fishing in Cabo. All four crews went out on El Nuevo to practice the new "kite" fishing. The training went very well, so now when you get to Cabo and want to try something new, RedRum will have it for you.
We also loaded the boats with some new bumper teasers and high speed lures - make sure the crew puts the "high speed" lure in the water on the way out to the fishing grounds and back to the marina.
We are always looking for ways to improve your day on the water.
See you in Cabo soon.
Team RedRum

8 Marlin and calling it a day!
The temperatures on land and under water have begun to increase. Our anglers had the opportunity to not only score a tan today under our sunny sky at 97 degrees Fahrenheit, they also got plenty of opportunity to catch a Marlin, or two or three. Water temperatures today reached 74 degrees by the shoreline and 76 degrees out by point 1150 on the sea of Cortez.
Patrick and his three friends from California were hurting just a little this morning when they arrived but took on the choppy waters like champs. Going out on our 28’ ReelRum with Omar and Americo, Patrick and his friends caught and released a Striped Marlin.
Out on day one of two, Joe and his wife Karen went out on our 32’ RumRunnin with Javier and Manuel. They also headed east on the Cortez side and caught 2 Marlin. A nice practice round for fishing and RedRum veterans who will be joining us for the Billfish tournament in October.
The Bourgeois group went out for their second day with us on our 33’ El Nuevo and matched yesterdays score adding 3 more Striped Marlin to their total!
Ted and friends joined Marcial and Fabian on our 32’ RedBeam and caught and released 2 Striped Marlin, also on the Cortez side.
If you ever wanted to catch your own Marlin now is the time!
