Lyle Kvarnlov's showing off the Yellowtails!

Darcy Ellenson and Lyle Kvarnlov from Warroad, Minnesota are fishermen for sure, they just hadn't done so in the Pacific before. Most of their fishing takes place up north in Lake Michigan and this was a new experience for them. Fishing with Javier, Ramon and Juan aboard Rum Runnin, Lyle and Darcy stayed busy all day with a variety of inshore fish including 3 nice Yellowtail, some Sierra and some Jack Crevalle. Darcy and Lyle couldn't say enough good things about the boys on Rum Runnin' which is always great.

Here is a picture Lyle sent us where he is showing off his 3 yellowtails on the back of RumRunnin with Juan to the side.

Thank you so much Lyle for sending this over and we hope to be your hosts real soon again.

Inshore bite is the best!

Good Morning guys,

Another succesful day at RedRum and last week of March 2011. As the end of this month gets closer, the warm weather is starting to show up and reminding us that Cabo IS the eternal Summer spot.

Yesterday all most of our boats decided to do inshore fishing and listening to our and our crew's suggestions regarding fishing. All those who did inshore fishing had a great fishing experience.

First group to show up was a shared charter with Jeff Carpenter, Kevin Finch and Kate & Tyge Blomberg 2 different couples that had an awesome experience with Captain Omar and Mate Americo. They fished the sea of cortez and landed a total of 13 Spanish Mackerel and 8 Yellowtails. Kate and Tyge decided to keep their catch and take it to a local restaurant to get it cooked up for lunch, while Jeff and Kevin decided to set free their catch (thumbs up for that guys!)

Off a cruise ship we had the remaining two groups.
On Tantrum we had Wayne, Lisa, Justin and Ryan Wolff fishing along with Captain Ramon and mate Juan. This cool family was the first to come off the cruise ship and they had one heck of a good time. They landed a total of 9 Spanish Mackerel and 4 Bonitas

And last but not least we had Roland Vanderberg and his crew who fished on RumRunnin with Captain Javier and mate Jesus. These guys as well as the other group decided to stick closer to shore and give it a shot with smaller fish. In the end they landed a total of 10 Spanish Mackerel..

Thanks for Reading.

Mixed Bag Monday...

4 species day for one of the boats today as inshore fishing was off the hook and everyone was getting bit!

Matt Gariup and his son Michael, unfortunately fell victim to a bout of sea-sickness before they could get into any fish. To those that are reading this and are worried about sea-sickness, Scopace is a great drug that your doctor can prescribe and we never see anyone come back with issues after taking Scopace.

Jim and Barb Sullivan were up next, and after having a great trip in December they were back again this time with friends Matt and Kim Prisk in tow. Jim thought the perfect day would be to catch a few fish and then give Matt something big to pull on. Captain Javier and Mate Jesus were up to the task. They pulled in 3 nice Yellowtail that Misiones de Kino was going to cook up for them and then the boys hooked a 70+lb Hammerhead Shark for Matt to pull on. What a day!

David Hartmann and Jenny Wangerow from Farmington, Ct and David and Jenny had an amazing inshore day with 3 Yellowtail, 2 Sierra, 5 Jack Crevalle and over 20 Bonita! They too will be enjoying their fish at both Misones de Kino and Hacienda Cocina and Cantina!

Yellowtail Bite is on, and all over the place....

Not only are the Yellowtail all over the coastline in 40-100 feet of water, but Alex caught one today out near the Jaime Bank. That being said, fishing has been excellent the last few days and today was no exception.

Doug Ottinger, Neil Haunbaugh and Chris Thompson fished with Alex and Manuel aboard El Nuevo RedRum today and they had an interesting day. Doug wanted to fish for Tuna and Marlin and Alex and Manuel searched near and far, but couldn't find a school of Yellowfin. While trolling out at Jaime Bank they did however hook a Yellowtail, on a cedar plug of all lures. Random place for a Yellowtail for sure, as Alex wasn't sure he had ever caught one so far from shore. The guys also caught a nice Bonita to finish off the day.

50 Lbs Yellowfin and LOTS of Yellowtail!

Hey Guys,

Today's fishing picked up a bit and the Sea of Cortez was our destination.
We only had 2 boats going out.

The first group to come back was Kris and Linda Godden along with their 2 kids. They fished on RedRum for a full day in hopes of catching something fun for their kids and so they did. They caught a total of 2 Sierras. They would've gone a bit further but their young daughter got a bit sea sick and decided to stick to inshore rather than offshore. They had a great time fishing with us and are a very friendly and nice family. We hope to see them again soon.

The next group to come in was Ian White's. They fished on RumRunnin for a second time with Javier and Jesus and had a superb trip. They landed a total of 7 Yellowtails, between 10-15 Lbs and 7 Sierras. They had to come in a bit early because Ben Werbo's sister is getting married today here in Sunny Baja! I'm guessing if it weren't for the wedding the guy's would've probably stayed out much more longer trying to target some stripers!

Yesterday we also did a 50 Lb Yellowfin tuna. This was caught by Chris Wozniak who fished solo on our 28' tantrum. It took him 10-15 min to land it and was caught by the Jaime Bank. Nice size fish!

Michael Crawford and his daughter Sara fished on RedRum for a full day and landed a total of 8 Yellowtail and 4 Sierra. They too had a great time in the water.

And last but not least we had Bart Alexander and his party who fished for a half day on the 33' Nuevo along with Captain Alex and mate Manuel. They caught a total of 7 Sierras and had a great time in the water.

Thanks for reading and enjoy your weekend!

Doug Bank's grandson's first Marlin

Hey All,

I just got this picture from Doug Banks who fished on March 9th. You may remember our fish report about 8 yr old Jayden and his first Striped Marlin:

"...and last but certainly not least Doug Banks and his crew Richard Webor, Trent Cottom, William Totton and Jayden (one of these guys is from VALLEJO!! my home town)
fished on RumRunnin with Captain Javier and mate Jesus. Jayden who's only 8 years old landed his first Striped Marlin that was 120 Lbs 7 ft in only 16 min! strong little boy! He was stoked to have reeled in that big fish all on his own...oh yeah, he also told me he slept for an hour and a half while trolling for the fish haha.
This awesome crew from Northern Cali fished by the Golden Gate and aside from the Marlin they also landed 4 Sierra and 2 Bonita. Congratulations Jayden! "

The picture Doug sent me is basically a picture to backup the fish Report.

Thanks Doug, hope to hear from you soon.
