A big change from yesterday, temperature wise in the waters at Golden Gate, almost a 5 degree drop, making the water temperature around 69 degrees. The RedRum crews noticed a big change there with temp as well as the green color in the water out on the Pacific. There wasn’t nearly as much action today as there was yesterday, however RedRum crews found RedRum clients their fish!
On of our favorite clients who comes to see us for weeks at a times is Dallas along with his friend Greg. This was Dallas’ fourth trip out with RedRum in the last few weeks. With his wife going back to the states, what’s a guy to do but stay in the Baja and fish! They went out with Omar and Ramon on ReelRum and were able to get one catch and release striped marlin as well as 2 mako sharks they released as well. I talked to Omar and Ramon a bit when they got back to the office and said the water was much much colder and not as much action at the surface. Dallas thanks again for coming down to see us! We’ll look forward to seeing you in October after you officially become a first-time grandfather, a big early congratulations there. See you soon.
Dan another one of our repeat customers headed out on El Nuevo with Zach and Mariah. They headed out with Alex and Cesar, along ways away from their home in Montana. Compared to Montana the water wasn’t that cold, but nonetheless it was much colder than yesterday. They fished at Golden Gate, trolling, some bottom fishing as well as pitching live bait and were able to reel in 2 catch and release marlin.
And lucky for us, we were able to track down our buddy Dale who we thought was a no show for yesterday, but actually got his dates confused, so we were able to put him out on RumRunnin today. Dale along with Matt, Blake and Sterling from Coppell, Texas made their way to Golden Gate as well. In a mere windless sky they had their hearts set on some marlin. Although they saw a few and almost hooked up to a few, they couldn’t get one to bite and hold. They did however end up reeling in 2 juvenile mako sharks about 3 feet long. It wasn’t the marlin they were hoping for, but they’ll be back in July so there’s always another chance in fishing… not catching.
The big rig Utopia headed out today as well with a crew from Texas. I’m guessing its spring break in all the Texas schools this week because I have seen nothing but hook ‘em horns shirts, and I mean everywhere! Now this is where I keep my lips sealed as I don’t want anyone to hate when the BIG 12 is talked about, but I am a born and raised Cornhusker, and now a Horned Frog as well, so I’ll just leave it at that. Anywho, this fun bunch headed out with Rene and Luis on Utopia, Kate, Graham, Margot, Emily, Garrett, Logan, David, Nena and Blake. They too noticed the difference in the fishing grounds out at Golden with the colder and greener water. Their hearts were set on marlin as well but came up short. They settled for a nice mako shark and Spanish mackerel.
We’ll see what happens tomorrow on the Lucky St. Patty’s day. We’ll be dining and drinking green beer at Miguel Loco’s where the annual Amigos de Los Ninos St. Patrick’s and fundraiser take place. We are Donovan’s so all of you better be drinking green beer tomorrow too!
Adios! Brooke

March 15th -- Marlin!
The 4 Texas guys, Chuck, Bob, Alec and his son Blake headed out on RumRunnin today. With the water fairly calm a slight breeze and just beautiful skies there wasn’t much to complain about. They headed out to Golden Gate with Javier and Manuel. They hooked into 2 striped marlin, catch and release of course. They took the measurement and a good guess on the weight and ordered a nice trophy for home. Well done you guys. And Blake, from what I hear, you caught the most fish on board, so great job there! I forgot to mention after hitting Golden Gate they went closer to shore and reeled in about 15 king mackerels, that’s where Blake came in!
James from Georgia, Todd from Wisconsin and, Tim from Missouri, the brothers and brother-in-laws all met up in Cabo for some fishing. After heading out on RumRunnin last Thursday they wanted more so booked to go out on the RedBeam today. They headed out to Golden Gate and hooked into 4 striped marlin. They were able to catch and release 3 of them and but unfortunately one got caught up in the line and died.
Our friend Dale who reserved ReelRum for today was a no show, so we have no report from Omar and Americo.
And last but not least is the crew from Norman, Oklahoma, Rob, Mary, J.D. and Tripp. They hopped aboard El Nuevo with Alex. There was lots of marlin on theat the surface and the guys worked their tales off to get them to bite. Heading out to Golden Gate as well to get their fix on the marlin, they caught and released two stripers.
Keep those pictures from your trips aboard RedRum boats coming in! We always need new faces and fish for our website. Just send your favorites into info@redrumcabo.com
Happy Sunday!

Friday the 13th
Bonnie and Daryl headed out on ReelRum with Omar and Americo to get entrenched in some action out at Golden Gate. These two know fishing well, but up in Alaska, not in Baja. Bonnie is no longer a marlin virgin as she reeled in her first on this trip. They battled some winds and chilly air but had a great day out there. They totaled 2 striped catch and release marlin, 1 skip jack tuna and 3 dorados. They saved some for dinner to be cooked up at their hotel.
Jason and wife Melissa along with their buddy Travis headed out on RumRunnin. This is Jason’s second time fishing with RedRum and he said he’s ready for more. They all headed down from San Antonio, Texas and headed out to Golden Gate. They saw lots of stripers on the surface and was able to reel two up to the boat. Unfortunately one of the marlin didn’t make it and died in the fight. It was brought over to the Mexican fishing department where the meat will be donated to a charity or orphanage. Nice job guys and we look forward to seeing you back again soon!
Lots of bait out at Golden Gate at about 69-70 degree Fahrenheit temperature water. Kurt, Bill, Michael and Brian from the Pacific Northwest sprung out of the cold weather and headed out on El Nuevo with Alex. Two cases of beer helped them bring in 2 catch and release marlin. Well done, maybe 4 cases will get you guys 4 marlin next time?
All aboard RedBeam was Lauren and Alvin from Louisiana heading out to Golden Gate as well on the sunny buy windy day. We worked hard to try and find them some people to share a boat with, but had no luck so they tackled the seas on their own. They pulled in one dorado but it wasn’t too long before someone was a bit sea sick. They turned back in after the single fight.

Windy on the Pacific today....
Early morning wind made for a choppy start to the fishing today. At 5am the Palm trees in the Marina were buckling over. By 6am the wind had calmed down a bit, but still causing quite a stir on the water. I was fearful we would have a lot of folks turning around early, not being able to stomach the weather. Well several boats had casualties, but none turned around early. Had some troopers out there today. Striped Marlin, Tuna, and Dorado were caught today.
Jared and Maria Orzolek, our good friends from Ohio were back in town and took out there folks to show them what RedRum is all about. Jared wanted to catch Marlin, Allan wanted Dorado. They both came back happy, 2 Dorado and a Marlin.
Tim, Todd, and Jim are brothers who fish every year at different spots around the US and now Mexico. They had a great day on the water with Javier and Manuel, wanting to book a second day if they were available, they were not unfortunately but they may head out on another boat. They really liked getting to know Javier and Manuel and had a blast fishing with them. They were lucky enough to grab 2 Marlin, plus they got a nice Dorado for dinner.
Tom and Chris Neal came into the office asking about fishing and decided they had to give it a try. Tom really wanted to catch a Marlin, which just happens to be our specialty. Chris was certainly one of the casualties today as she was really feeling the weather. Certainly a trooper though as they stayed out the whole day. We were able to hook 2 Marlin for them, but unfortunately they both got off. Hopefully your next trip with us will be a bit smoother.
David and Dawn Naples along with their friends Eric Norskog and Jackie Scroggs spent the day on the RedBeam. Unfortunately, they didn't get a Marlin in the boat for pictures, but they were able to land a nice Dorado. Enjoy dinner.
Mike Kalzer and his family are visiting from Canada and decided to spend a day on the water SportFishing. They had a great day as well, catching and releasing 2 Marlin and catching 2 Dorado. They were last seen at Mango Deck with some Fish Tacos and Beverages. Nothing better than fish tacos two hours after catching the fish. Apparently, someone (maybe Mike's daughter?) had a little too much fun last night and felt a little under the weather on the boat today. Hope you are feeling better.
Our good buddy Dallas Strube has some guests in town and wanted to show them a great day on the water. Alex and Dallas played host to David, Tricia and Greg and they had a great day. David remarked a few days ago that he wanted to catch Marlin until he puked. That may have been a bit of foreshadowing!! They finished the day with 3 catch and release Marlin and 1 nice Dorado.
Rounding out the group is DJ and my good buddy Forrest. Forrest and his pals were down for his wedding (congrats and good luck) and went out on Saturday and had a great day. Forrest mentioned after, that he would love to get out again if we could find him someone to share the boat with. Having caught a few Marlin on Saturday, he was interested in Dorado, but down for whatever as long as he was on the water. We were able to hook him up with DJ another single that really wanted to fish. Looks like these guys made fast friends on the water and had a lot of fun together. DJ admitted that the first two hours were rough, literally, and he was feeling it. Once the action started though, he felt fine. These guys had an awesome day, catching 2 Dorado, 2 TUNA, and a huge 180lb Striped Marlin (Dj's first ever.) Great meeting you guys, send in the photos and keep in touch.
Full house tomorrow as well. Talk to you then.

RedRum Report for March 11th
Great day on the water today in sunny (and safe, don't believe everything the media is saying) Cabo San Lucas. After some light showers last night, we had a beautiful day today with the temperature was in the 80's without a cloud in the sky. Water temps stayed the same at about 72-73 degrees. Green-Back Mackeral was once again the preferred bait at the Golden Gate. Marlin, Dorado, Skipjack Tuna and Sierra Mackeral were caught today. Marlin numbers were down because it was a little rough out there and they couldn't chase the fish quite as well as they had the past few days.
Mike Kalzer came down to Cabo but couldn't convince his buddies or his wife to come fishing with him. "No worries, more fish for me," was his mantra this morning. Well that certainly held true throughout the day. After tail-wrapping the first Marlin (which made the fight much tougher) Mike wasn't sure how many more he had left in him. He ended up catching and releasing 4 big striper's before calling it quits. He was still interested in catching something for dinner, so Omar and Americo found a Dorado for him as well. Mike commented that this was the best fishing trip he has ever been on, and couldn't believe the amount of Marlin he saw. Nice meeting and fishing with you Mike.
Jack Laird was a walk-in client that saw all the flags flying for days on end here in the Marina and had to get out on the water. Javier and Manuel hooked them up on a big Marlin that they fought for a long time, eventually hauling it up for a photo. They hooked a few others and also caught and released a Dorado.
Our good buddy Jeff Prince and his wife are down visiting from Las Vegas and they certainly wanted to get out on the water while they were here. The trip was last minute and I was booked solid for today by the time Jeff called. I was able to hook him up on one the boats we recommend when we are full and he had a blast. 2 Marlin and 2 Dorado.
Dean Cushman, unfortunately I don't think a Marlin is in the cards for Dean. He even stated after the trip that he would never do it again. Dean has fished 6 times in Cabo and never caught a Marlin. He was really unpleased with most of the fleets he had gone out with and was hesitant at giving us a shot. We sent him out with Rafa and I told him while I never guarantee fish, this would be the closest I would come to doing so. Why don't I guarantee? Because even with double digit Marlin coming in every day for weeks, you never know what the next day will hold. These guys came back with 1 Spanish Mackeral. We did however put him on the fish. Hooked Dean up on a huge Marlin that he fought for over an hour. After an hour Dean had nothing left and passed the rod to the Mate who also fought the fish for a while. After the mate passed the rod to the Captain, the fish eventually snapped the line. Sounds like they had a monster on. They hooked up one other Marlin, but lost that one as well. We did our best Dean, sorry pal.
Finally some Spring Breakers, Andrew Glazer and his boys from Syracuse University. I was sure these guys would come wondering in an hour late, stinking of Squid Row. I was wrong, these guys were on time and ready to go. I guess they party a little different at Syracuse. All joking aside, these guys had a blast on El Nuevo and caught and released 3 Marlin and 1 Dorado.
Matt and Derek were a couple of guys that had signed up on our share list and we were able to make something happen for them. They went out, accompanied by their wives and had a blast. Each was able to bring in a Marlin and they also caught some Skipjack I believe.

March 10th update...
Another fabulous day on the water for RedRum anglers. Blue water and 73 degrees was exactly what our Captains were looking for. 3 out of 5 boats headed for the Golden Gate with the RedBeam's clients opting for some inshore fishing. Kirk Leadbetter got off a cruise ship at 10:30am and was hooked up shortly after 11am. They had a great day inshore fishing for Spanish Mackeral as well as some Snappers.
Jason and Sara Babin along with friends Mario and Ashley headed out with Alex and Ramon on El Nuevo RedRum. They had a great day, even with a little chop on the water, and managed to Catch and Release 3 Marlin and also bringing a nice Dorado on the boat for lunch. Congrats guys, great day.
ReelRum with Rene and Americo also had cruise ship passengers. They wanted Marlin, but just didn't have the time to get to the Gate. Rene and Americo were able to put them on some nice fish around the lighthouse point however. One nice Dorado and a big Striped Marlin were released.
Tom Linderholm and his crew had a fantastic day with Javier and Manuel on Rum Runnin. They had 4 nice Dorado and 3 catch and release Marlin today and came back to the office looking for another day on the water later this week.
Finally, Rafa took the Wilbanks party out and also had a great day. They were able to hook several Marlin, bringing 2 to the boat for "IGFA" releases. They also were lucky enough to bring in 2 Dorado.
Full day again tomorrow. See you then.

RedRum Sportfishing April 8th
Busy morning in the RedRum office with 6 boats going out this morning. Everyone has been hearing about the crazy Marlin bite of the last week and half and are wanting to capitalize on it. Had a few folks walk in yesterday afternoon proclaiming they had to get out on the water today. That's the spirit, and those folks always seem to catch the most fish. First to return was Ron McCallum who went out with Rafa. Ron had a flight at two to catch, but got skunked earlier in the week with another company. We got him on 2 Marlin and 2 Dorado by 11am and sent him on his way to the airport. Success story number 1.
Texans, (but unfortunately Aggies,)Chris and Greg took their crew out on El Nuevo RedRum. Alex and Cesar headed for the 73 degree water of the Golden Gate and put the Cabo first timers on 7 catch and release Marlin and had them back to the docks by 1pm. Great day guys, see you tomorrow.
Phil, Jessica and Alex headed out on ReelRum with Omar, who I believe may have sold his soul to the devil. He is out of control hot the last few months. He caught and released another 8 Marlin today, rather Phil, Jessica, and Alex caugt 8 with Omar and Americo's help. He said the bait was everywhere and the action was crazy.
