Thursday's update

Sorry for the delay on the fish report folks, been a one man show here for a while. George, our marina manager who has missed 1 day of work the past 5 years has been out for over a week now with a nasty case of Bronchitis. Rene, his trusty sidekick and our full-time mechanic has been up in Tijuana since Saturday purchasing a new vehicle. And finally, Diana, our wonderful office assistant, called in sick today with fever and sore throat. No worries, I got it covered, albeit running around like a chicken with my head cut off. Have to hand it to my Captains and Mates this past week though, they have been picking up the slack like all great teams do in troubled times.

On to the fishing already right.

Larry Robinson and his son , Zach, moved from Florida to Colorado this past year and while they are certainly enjoying all that the Rocky Mountains have to offer, offshore fishing has been missed and the guys were really looking forward to a day on the water. With two days on the calendar the guys wanted to get out and target a big Blue or Black Marlin. While we have seen some great fish come in during the late July, early August time frame, the Marlin bite certainly slowed during the second week of August, possibly as a result of the full moon we just had. The guys trolled some big baits and big lures but couldn't raise a big Marlin on day one. Just when they thought the day was about over, a big bull Dorado came crashing through the spread and Zach, battled it for nearly 30 minutes before bringing it onboard.

Blake Iceton, his brother Scott, along with Clarke Baker, Zenin Mceachern and Matt Hoshinson all headed out with Alex and Ramon today aboard El Nuevo RedRum. One thing you know, if you are a frequent visitor to this blog, we are completely honest with regards to how we run our business. Blake and his guys had a few complaints when they got back yesterday. While I have no idea what 5 twenty-something guys did the night before the charter in Cabo San Lucas, apparently the 30 waters we put on board weren't enough. The guys were also not happy with the fact that they had to go to a fish cleaning station at the end of the day to clean the fish. I'm with you there fellas, but by law, this is something that every charter boat in Cabo San Lucas is required to do at the end of each day. In turn, I would also like to be forthcoming in the fact that at no point did they guys say the fishing was phenominal and the crew worked really hard getting the 8 Yellowfin Tuna hooked up for them. We pride ourselves on customer service and hate to have any blemish at all when it comes to our customers happiness, with that being said, I think RedRum and our crew did a great job today.

Finally we had Jason and Rachel Ramsey from North Carolina join us aboard ReelRum with Captain Omar. Jason and Rachel opted for a half day charter, and at the rate they were catching fish, I think they probably wish they had stayed out the extra few hours. Jason and Rachel got into the Dorado, with some big fish making their way to the boat. Rachel, of course, caught the biggest of the 4 Dorado and she was happy to come back and tell me all about it.

Good times today despite the disappointing loss yesterday by Team USA soccer in Mexico City against Mexico. World Cup qualifying has now reached the half-way point. Team USA got off to a hot start but has been shakey of late, while Mexico's early struggles seem to be a thing of the past.
